I have a gum infection. My dentist prescribed Amoxicillin 500 mg, 4 times a day. Would this be considered to be a "normal" dose of the medication? It seems to me to be quite a high dosage, i.e., 2000 mg a day. I just need some guidance on this. ## It can vary, depending on the severity of the infection being treated and thus, can range from 2 to 4 doses daily. And you also have to remember that in this case, where it is a gum infection being treated, you have to eradicate the existing infection and prevent reinfection, since you have to eat every day and expose your gums to further possible contaminants. A higher dosage might cause more severe side effects, such as worsening of the nausea, dizziness and diarrhea that antibiotics can cause. Are there any other questions? You can ...

Hello, I was prescribed amoxicillin for my tooth. It is decaying. It's black, but what do you expect? Ha. Anyways I have no signs of infection (I don't think) and by that I mean I don't have any swelling. It hurts (of corse half my tooth is gone), but that's it. She had a very strong accent and I think she said when it starts sweeping just start taking them. The prescription says start taking them ASAP... But I guess I'm battling an issue with myself because I don't feel an infection? So why should I take them? ## Hello, Spaz! How are you? If the tooth hurts and is blackened, then there most likely is an infection. Otherwise, it would only be sensitive to something very hot or cold, when you eat or drink. This antibiotic may cause side effects, such as nausea, di...

I stopped taking the antibiotic and now my vagina is swallowing ## Hi asia, Did you mean to say swelling as opposed to swallowing? If so... there's a possibility you could be suffering from a yeast infection (which is common after taking antibiotics). You could have also had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics. Have you ever had this problem before? I recommend supplementing with a probiotic to reinstate good bacteria into your body. Eating sugar free yogurt with honey could help too (sugar free is best because the sugar may cause more yeast infection problems). Yogurt, as well as kefir, is full of good bacteria that can help build your immune system. If the swelling gets worse, please see a doctor as soon as possible! I hope this helps.

I started taking Amoxicillin a few days ago to treat strep throat, since then I have been experiencing hellish heartburn any time i try to eat or drink anything! I mean I can take a sip of water and it burns all the way down my throat and into my tummy. I know i cant just stop taking the meds because it is treating my infection, but is there anything i can do to help with the heartburn? ## I didn't find any problems listed between using it with any of the traditional heartburn remedies. I checked for possible interactions with Tums, Prilosec and Pepcid, which covers the 3 main classes. Learn more Prilosec details here. Learn more Pepcid details here. Have you tried any of them? I take a very high quality probiotic that kept away thrush, I then was prescribed amoxicillin after I had suffered a few days of a flu, so I stopped my probiotics for the length of the antibiotics. The thrush has returned. I've completed the antibiotics, had enough for 1 weeks dosage. I've upped my probiotic & am eating extremely healthy, should the thrush clear up. I suffered with it for almost 3 years then these probiotics did clear it up. I'm in a lot of pain please help. ## Hello, Taz! How are you? Antibiotics can cause thrush, as a side effect and stopping the probiotic while taking them may have allowed it to get out of control, again. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Ha...

Oral surgery for gingivitis and bone Graf. Been on for ten days and have 3days left. Threw up this am while eating 6 hrs after taking pill. Not allowed to chew yet mostly liquid diet. What can I do to combat nausea. ## Hello, Kim! How are you feeling? Have you tried taking it with a little milk? It does have a slight effect on the absorption of this antibiotic, but not enough that most medical scientists have considered it significant enough to carry a warning about telling people to stay away from dairy with this one. You should check with your surgeon first to make sure that it's okay for you to take it that way, but milk can often coat the stomach and help prevent the nausea and irritation. Can this medication be taken with amoxicillin ## There are no interactions listed between the two, since the Potassium is just a nutritional supplement, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. I can't stop the diarrhea....please advise how to it... ## Because diarrhea is a common side effect of Amoxicillin, to me it makes sense to stop taking what's causing the issue in the first place, and then opt for another alternative or natural remedy to kill the infection. Eating plenty of bananas may help with the diarrhea temporarily if you're veering towards the end of your Amoxicillin treatment; otherwise I'd suggest looking into the use of Oregano Essential Oil (as it is heavily regarded as being a more potent antibiotic than this drug, minus the side effects). Just something to consider down the road. I hope this bit of info helps! ## Doctor RX'd AMOX TR-K CLV 500-125 mg, 14 pills 2x a day for a reoccuring bladder infection. I stopped taking after 12 days and on the last day my feces turned white. They are still white 10 days later with severe itching and dark urine. Went to ER for cat scan and all is normal except elevated liver functions. GI doctor says this reaction can last a very long time. Any advice? ## Hi Marsha, Black/clay colored stools, blood in the stools, and dark urine are just a few side effects of Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium. The only suggestion I have would be to eat a very clean diet consisting of fruits and veggies and alkaline water. This may help your body to rid itself of the leftover medication faster. Light exercise will also help your body to sweat out any unnecessary toxins. Learn More: Amoxicillin + Clavulanate Potassium Details I hope this info/advice helps!

antibiotic ## all I want to know is the various side effects of biactin. ## Hi, In my experience they include a mettalic taste (this was really strong for me.. I tasted metal all the time unless I was eating), and also rather severe dihoria (sorry poor spelling). Also it didn't cure my sinus infection at all so I got all the side effects without any of the effects. If you are not feeling well I suggest calling and or seeing your doctor again. I wish I had sooner! ## I am on biactin right now. My doctor put me on this because I have severe sinus infections and I have been on Amoxicillin too many times it does not work well. Just as cdp says, I also taste the metal in my mouth. it's so nasty omg lol. It also makes me super nauseous.

I've been taking Amoxicillin for a week now and have been experiencing heartburn and burping. Could this be due to the medication? ## Hello, Burning Love! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you're having. And yes, it may be due to the medication. Most medications can cause excess stomach acid. This can sometimes be mitigated by taking it with a small meal or snack, but you should check with your doctor or pharmacist first to make sure that it is okay for you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My mother, aged 85, has been suffering from severe heartburn for several years. Both my daughters are prescribed liquid amoxicillin every 12 hrs. But I gave them at 9:30 pm, so the next dose is 9am... But I can't give it too them because they are at school. Is it OK if I give it too them, once they get home from school & eat dinner. I worry because my dosing time is off, will the medication, not be as effective. Please I would appreciate your insight & thank you.... ## Hello, Star! How are you? It is best taken twice a day, as prescribed, but it doesn't have to be precisely 12 hours apart. what is the white powdery sediment that collects at the bottom of my child's Betamox syrup bottle? ## Are you making sure to shake the medication to mix it, when you give your child a dose? Betamox contains the active ingredient Amoxicillin, which is an antibiotic, but these suspensions usually start out as powders at the pharmacy, which are mixed with purified water, at the time they are dispensed to you. Thus, as it sits, it is normal for some of the medication to settle back out, just as would happen with any other powder solid that you mix with a liquid and let sit for awhile. That's why you are supposed to shake the bottle to mix well, before giving your child a dose. ## I've got the baby girl, she is 7 months she is having sore inside de mouth, she can't eat, she is ...

I have "Diverticulitis and I'm taking Amoxicillin Clavulanate Potassium tablets 875mg. This 2nd day. I've taken 3 already. The doctor told me to take it twice a day for 10 days. When should I see improvement? And should I be on a liquid diet or low residue diet? Thanks for your help! ## Hello, Barbara! How are you? The FDA classifies this mediation as being an antibiotic and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. As to when you should see an improvement, there's really no way to say. Diverticulitis can be very tricky to treat and may not respond to the initial course of antibiotics. Any suggestions?? He is on day 5to out of 10the days and is 20 months... ## Hi Brooke, Based on my research, "excessive tiredness & lack of energy" are listed as severe side effects of Amoxicillin, where it recommends contacting your doctor immediately. Loss of appetite however is a more common side effect that shouldn't involve too much concern in my opinion as long as he is open to eating or drinking something every now and then throughout the day. With that said, it may be best to pay a visit to his doctor in order to confirm that he should continue taking the medication. If ...
