I have recently been suffering a MAJOR sinus infection...let me start off my saying I have taken tylenol and advil for all of my adult life...the 'hardest drug' has been Tylenol 3 with codeine. I am posting here becuase yesterday I went to the hospital, because I was in sooooooo much pain...They checked me out and ended up giving me a shot of morphine....a 5 mg shot to be exact. Is that a lot of a little?? I am very tall and weigh about 250 pounds.....but i didnt feel a thing!!! When I hear people talk about morphine, it seems like they were living high on a cloud....and for me, I didn't feel stoned AT ALL......I drove home from the hospital...and then I took 2 percs which I had at home....and still didnt feel relief.....is this normal?? What are other people's tolerance...

I have had 4 surgeries in the past 2 years and because I am prone to blood clots I have been taking lovenox twice a day (100 mg 2 times a day). I just had a doppler of my leg and the blood clot is still there. I do have an umbrella filter to stop the clot from travelling. How long can the body tolerate lovenox. I am sick of theses injections, and it is getting very frustrating. ## As far as body tolerance goes, I haven't come across many scenarios where people experienced side effects. So I can only assume that most people tend to tolerate it well. Lovenox (Enoxaparin) is a Heparin drug, thus only available as an injection unfortunately. There are other blood thinners available in pill form, but you would need to discuss your options with you doctor, as sometimes the oral version do...

I was prescribed 15 mg oxycontin 3x per day along with 10 mg oxycodone up to 3x per day. I didn't seem to need to oxycodone at first but a week later I find myself taking it all 3 times. Could I have become tolerant to the 15mg oxycontin already? ## I doubt you've developed a tolerance that fast, but your body may have gotten more used to it, so the affect isn't as pronounced as it first was. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I have reads that a person who was on Tramadol for 8 or 10 years and as a result, had to take 8 of the 50 mg tablets of Tramadol daily to get results. His Dr. decided to give him a derivative of the drug for a few months to help irradiate the tolerance that had developed from taking the Tramadol for so long. After using the new drug for 6 months or a year. ( Cant remember the details. the article was a few years back) or a year, he switched back to the Tramadol and needed only 200 mg Daily. I can't seem to find any more info on this any more but would be interested in cleaning out and starting anew with the Tramadol. ## Hello, John! How are you? This is known to work for some people and some doctors do recommend 'med vacations' to help something retain or regain efficacy. Th...

Hi, I have been taking 500mg 4 times per day for 8 weeks for a potential osteomylitis. My concern is if my body is building a tolerance to the Keflex. The infection is still present, and although it has diminished somewhat has not gone away. ## It isn't that you really build a tolerance to an antibiotic, it's that the bacteria can develop antibiotic resistance. However, that shouldn't be a concern after just this short of a time period, that usually occurs with long-term use or repeated use of the same antibiotic. When will your doctor be checking the infection, again? ## Thanks for your response. I saw the microbioligist this past Monday and he changed the antibiotics to another one in the same "family" and I will have to take it for another 28 days at least. He als...

Hello I need help in deciding what would be the best course of action for me to take. A year ago I started getting prescribed Adderall 20 mg that I was suppose to take once a day. It was really working for me for a couple of months but after three months after an eight hour day I started to feel myself getting tired. I told my doctor this and he changed it to 15 mg twice a day. This seemed to be working, but I usually do not take two in one day. Most of the time I take one by 10 am and I don't want my body to build up a tolerance or a dependency on them so I usually only take the second one if I am having a long day. Anywho, I am starting to feel like just the 15 mg in the morning is not doing anything for me. I feel myself kind of just daydreaming or not really there while in class...

anyone with experience using Faslodex? How painful are injections? Any tricks to make this more tolerable? What can be done to lessen nausea and vomiting etc? ## HI, I have been taking Faslodex injections for 1 year and 5 months. My oncologist started me on this because the tamoxifen I was taking didn't work for me. The first year I was on Faslodex, I was given one injection a month. In April 2009 I started receiving 2 injections a month. This was after a meeting (discussion) of this product and how well it was working for patients taking it. I started out Stage 0-1, had the lumpectomy. I refused radiation and was prescribed tamoxifen. At my next mammogram I was diagnosed Stage 1 and went with the left breast mastectomy. At that time I was given an oral chemo. After this treatment, ...

I have been taking 4 or 5 of the 15mg ir morphine pills per day for several months. I was having a lot of pain today, so I took another dose of 15mg ir pills about an hour ago. How long before I will have some relief and how long will it last? ## I just read your post...did not see any replies, so here goes. First of all, you need to stay on top of your pain. Do NOT try to wait until it gets really severe for if you do, you will 'never' get it under control. 'Never being relative to how much you can stand, and when the edge is off enough for you to 'have a life'', so to speak. Take your meds on the first sign of break through pains, or spikes. Now, to answer the question you actually asked- normally, it takes between 20 to 45 minutes for pain medicines by mouth t...

Anyone know where I can find some info on the timescale of tolerance for Ocycocet / percocet? I know the effect diminishes over time (as I very much feel it) but would like to do some research and my beloved google is disappointing me. ## The reason you aren't finding it is because there isn't one. There is no way to establish a time frame for such things, because it is always going to differ from person to person. Everyone's body is different, meaning that any given medication may work longer for one person than for another. It will also vary depending on what is causing their pain and their own sensitivity to such pain. Where one injury may not really bother one person, another person may be in excruciating pain with it. There are just far too many individualizing factors ...

I have been using Roxanol rectally and lately I've had to increase my dose due to escalating pain but I've found my tolerance seems to have shot up really fast. I am taking a break as best I can, does anyone know how long it will take to get my tolerance back to where my regular dose will be effective - regret doing this very much. ## There's really no defined time frame to even guess at, it can vary from person to person, just as much as having your tolerance grow can vary. Learn more Roxanol details here. Have you talked to your doctor for assistance? Have you tried any other medications? ## Yes to both and I am trying the longer acting version for now with different break through meds, so far I think this will be better for me. Downside is it's not as fast-acting but ...

Question? I have been on oxy 30's for almost two years now. My body has built up a tolerance to it now. I used to look forward to taking it because it gave me the euphoric feeling and I was "happy" after taking it. Now my tolerance level is at taking 5 pills or 150mg. What can I do to get my tolerance down. I also have this med called suboxone which I take when I run out. I am thinking of stopping the meds altogether. I must say that I feel better off the oxys. I am not addicted to it but if I continue I could be. The only thing that keeps me from it is I am scared to die so I won't do anything for the euphoria. However, after taking the suboxone, I always feel better. It also provides a euphoric feeling that is great and it works great for the withdrawal symptoms. So I ...

I have been on 300mg gabapentin for 4 years--never more--same dose the whole time. Can I start having withdrawal symptoms if the dosage remains the same? ## Hello, Gizmo! How are you? No, generally you shouldn't experience withdrawal symptoms, but the medication may start to lose effectiveness, so it may not work for you as well as it used to. What types of symptoms are you experiencing? ## I am doing okay. I am 33 months off of 1mg Xanax and 18 days off of 150mg tramadol. Just got worried about gabapentin reaching tolerance. I have been on it 4 years for hot flashes. Take at bedtime only. I am still having many symptoms from drug withdrawal from Xanax and tramadol. I found out that with tramadol and Xanax dosages have to be increased over time. Iwas sure hoping gabapentin was not l...

Hi folks, im jay from good old london in uk. I got a question and a sort of discussion too. I just did a 7 month detox from 20 mg to 0 at the ratio reduction of 2 mgs per month, started in jan this year, finished mid july last month. So i went from 20 for a month to 18 for a month, 16, 14, 12, 10, so on until bang i hit zero. Even though i hated my doc at the time i have to applaud him now, but, and here it comes, i still take 3 different benzos once every 2 weeks. Well, they're diazepam again yes, 10mg x8 + klonopin 2mg x15 + tramadol 50mg x8, which i believe is a painkiller. Anyway despite also being on 40 mls of methadone liquid daily i barely sleep. Is this down to me stopping diazepam still 1 month later feeling effects of what i thought was a good detox? As for this one off th...

I have been taking 20 mg oxycontin 2 x per day and 20 mg oxycodone 4 x per day for chronic migraines for the last 2 years and before that we tried norco's and butran's patches but the oxy works the best. Lately it seems that the oxycotin is not lasting the 12 hrs it should and I feel myself going through withdrawal about 8-9 hours after taking one oxycotin even with the oxycodone. Does my tolerance with these medications be why the oxycotin is not lasting the full 12 hours it should? I go to see my doctor in 2 days. I am going to be out of my oxycotin tomorrow and I am scared of the withdrawal as I feel like I want to crawl out of my skin and I start flopping like a fish. I work full time and can't afford to take time off. What suggestions do you have for increasing the oxyc...

BEEN ON 30 MG OXYCODONE 4 A DAY N 15 MG OXYCODONE 3 DAY FOR BREAKTHRU.ALL R IM RELEASE.SHOULD I CHANGE THE 30 MG TO 60 OF MORPHINE ER.SINCE THE EXTENDED RELEASE WILL LAST LONGER N KEEP THE 15 FOR BREAKTHRU? ## Swapping the Oxycodone for Morphine sounds like a good approach if you need to try something different for tolerance reasons. But with regards to potency, Oxycodone is said to be approx. 1.5x more potent than Morphine on a milligram to milligram basis. So I can't say for certain if 60mgs of Morphine ER will be quite enough to replace Oxycodone 30mgs. It's probably worth trying though since you'd have the 15mg Oxycodone for backup relief. Is your doctor pretty flexible with you wanting to change things up? ## First of all, 30 and 15mg Oxycodone tablets are not immediate...

My orthopedic surgeon prescribed hydrocone-acetominophen 7.5/325 after my knee replacement surgery a month ago. Since I am taking levothyroxine, I had a bad reaction to the surgery--I think it was the anesthesia--and couldn't hold any food down for two days. But now, I'm finding that I'm getting desensitized to the hydrocodone and the 3X a day that the doctor prescribed for it isn't enough, and I am in pain after a few hours, and the amount of time I am pain free gets less and less with every passing day. I have started taking the hydrocodone every six hours (4X daily) and even that is not enough to control the pain. What should I do? ## It would be best to inform your doctor, because you may need to try a different medication, or you may need to switch to the 10/325mg d...

Are there substances one may take to increase the amount of time before one develops tolerance to the anxiolytic effects of klonopin? I am currently on a 1 mg 3 x daily, and my psyc suggested going done to 1 or 2 on some days to help avoid tolerance. I know some folks are fortunate that they never seem to develop tolerance to the anxiolytic effects, and no strong scientific evidence exists that I have seen that indicates it will happen. Still, anecdotal reports of such abound. I have heard the magnesium glycinate and Coenzyme Q10 may help prevent tolerance, but I have found no research to that end, only anecdotal reports. Does anyone have any links to evidence about these or other substances that may stave off possible tolerance to the anxiolytic effects of klonopin? Your help will be g...

Hello all, I am a 21 yo male and I have been on Vyvanse for close to four months now. I was prescribed 30mg pills for ADHS at the begging of the summer and really noticed a huge difference in my overall performance at work and in dealing with people. After two months I noticed the effects seemed to taper off earlier throughout the day and only last around 5-6 hours. I then decided to take one pill in the morning and one at mid day as to combat this "come down" earlier on. At the end of 15 days I was out of the drug due to working many days straight and not taking breaks form my medication. At my last Dr. visit I asked to be bumped up to 50mg due to this tapering effect. The doctor obliged and once I filled my script I was back to the normal effects. Unfortunately the past couple...

I have had a bad spinal injury since 2009. I constantly suffer in pain everyday. I have good days and bad days basically some where the pain is more tolerable then others. I have several ruptured discs in my lower back as well as nerve damage and found out last summer I also have damage to a few vertebrae in my TSpine now as well. An also have arthritis in my spine. I also have severe degenerative disc disease. I have gotten many epidural cortizone shots over the years. My problem is I have a very low threshold for pain. I need spinal fusion surgery, a discetomy and a laminecotmy. However I have gone to see several spine surgeons for opinions and the one that came the most highly recommended refuses to do surgery as he told me it is very risky and there is a high risk of my being in wor...
