I have naproxen from august 2010 is it still good? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? No, medications do lose efficacy with time and most only have a one year shelf-life, once the original factory sealed container is opened. It would be best to dispose of it and purchase a new supply. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

shelf life of keflex ## Hi patty, From what I could gather, Keflex (Cephalexin) has a shelf life of 3 years. After this time frame, the medication may not be nearly as effective as it should be, and therefore may not be strong enough to eradicate certain types of infections at this point. If you do have expired antibiotics, it's probably a good idea to visit your doctor for a new script. This way you can at least be certain that it'll work the way it's supposed to and not cause drug resistant bacteria. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cephalexin Details I hope this helps!

What is the Zofran Shelf Life ## "Zofran (ondansetron) tablets have good stability, and have a shelf life of 2 years when stored below 30 degrees C." Referenced from: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2533901 I hope this helps to answer your question! ## Is that 2 years from the time the Zofran was manufactured, or from the date received? There is no indication on my Rx bottle of the date it was manufactured. ## The expiration date is set from the date of manufacture. It's nerarly impossible to know if you have short dated drugs unless you ask the pharmacy what the expiration is when they dispense it. ## I have nausa meds that expired 12/2016. Are they still ok to take? ## What is the shelf life of Zofran/Ondansetron after it has been opened ## I purchased zofran/ondansetron 8 mg in d...

How many years past the expiration date would if be safe to use Jevity for nutrition. If it was stored in a non-climate controlled environement would this adversely affect it? ## Can you drink outdated jevity ,if so what happens to it. ## Generally, it is best to avoid outdated liquids, because as the FDA warns, they may turn sour/go bad, and could make you sick if you use them, this goes for both supplements, and medications. Thus, drinking it could cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Thus, it would be best to dispose of it and obtain a new supply. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have taken Librium, 25mg - maybe once a month since the 1970's. It was always effective. Recently, my doctor prescribed a small number of 25mg capsules. They had no effect. Is it possible the pharmacy was providing outdated pills? ## Hi don, My thoughts on this situation is that you may have received a different brand or manufacturer's version of Librium than what you may have been given back in the 70's. If this is the case, there may be a slight variation of inactive ingredients that are actually detrimental to how the drug is metabolized and used by your body. Because of this, your body can respond favorably with one medication and not the other, even if they are the same drug. I don't think a pharmacy would provide outdated medications or there could be a very big ...

i want to know whAT THE SHELF LIFE OF XANNX IS ## A Xanax prescription from your pharmacy will have an expiration date of one year from the date it was filled and the same would be true of any that are not sealed in the original bottle from the manufacturer, that have been exposed to light and air. Bottles that are still sealed by the manufacturer have a 3 year shelf-life. They don't become dangerous, after the expiration, however, they will start to degrade and lose effectiveness, so they may not work as well as they did, when they were new. Learn more: Are there any questions or comments?

what's the shelf-life of old seconal tablets? ## Shelf life of Seconal is 60 months. Do you have any more questions or information to add? Please post back if you do. ## In my experience, expired Seconal was 100 percent good. I've taken expired 60s even 50s of Secobarb / Seconal and it's like nothing changed period.

oval yellow pill 10/325 ## what is the shelf life for endocet ## endocet had a stable shelf life of 1 year. After the year it starts to loose its potency and may make you sick. ## To expand on Eddie's reply…. His response is correct for tablets or capsules that have been dispensed to you in a bottle from your pharmacy. In that case, they have an expiration date of one year from the date of dispensing, though most will not make you sick, they just lose potency. However, if they are in the original factory sealed container that has not been opened, then the storage shelf life is actually 3 years, since they have not yet been exposed to the elements that cause degradation, such as heat, light and moisture. There are some capsules, and all liquid medication formulation...

The shelf life of Opana ER is 3 years. It has been reported elsewhere that this product has a relatively short shelf life, but it was difficult to obtain a definite answer. As a result, we contacted the manufacturer directly (Endo Pharmaceuticals) at (866) 395-8301, and they were happy to provide us with an answer over the phone. We also mentioned that we were looking through their product information sheets and that this information was not available. They stated that the shelf life of Opana would not be mentioned in the PI sheets, and that we did the right thing by calling them directly. Anyways, we hope this information is helpful to everyone, as we've had a few inquiries about this recently. Once again - the shelf life of Opana ER is three years. ## Great that's what I was w...

I still have some Xanor SR from about 2 1/2 years ago and would like to know the shelf life. Is it still safe to take now to prevent panic attack. ## It is absolutely still safe to take, Xanor (alprazolam) does not become more toxic because of age so you will suffer no ill effects. However, depending on how old the Xanor already was when you got it and the conditions it has been stored in, the potency might be very low to non-existent. The manufacturer sets the expiration date at 5 years after being manufactured, but I have heard many reports from people taking xanax pills that are ten years old and still worked fine.

How many years will Zolpidem tartrate (Ambien 10mg) be effective after its expiration date? ## According to FDA reports, it starts to lose efficacy one year after it is dispensed to you from your pharmacy. However, I recently had a nurse practitioner tell me that the U.S. is the only country that requires expiration dates on medications, I haven't researched to verify this, but I do know that there are quite a few others that don't, such as Mexico, India, Africa, and etc. However, what I can tell you is that they do not become dangerous, once expired. Additionally, Harvard University’s Medical Center states that “most of what is known about drug expiration dates comes from a study conducted by the Food and Drug Administration at the request of the military. With a la...

I am a hospice nurse and the discussion has come up as to the shelf life of the narcotics that we use such as Ativan,Morphine, Dilaudid. Is there a blanket time that we can use for all narcotics that have expired expiration dates on the label. ## Okay first, Ativan is not a narcotic, it contains the active ingredient Lorazepam, which is a Benzodiazepine, so rather than treating pain, it is used to treat anxiety, nervous disorders and some severe cases of insomnia. Learn more: And second no, dispensing expired medications to your patients would be considered illegal under U.S. law. Are there any other questions? ## Calm down, Nurse Nancy geeesh ## Um. Yes, lorazepam IS a narcotic... Narcotic does not mean "illicit drug", that does not make any sense. The way that I see it, people...

What is the shelf life of Celebrex capsule 200mg. The date on mine is 5/2/09. They have been kept in the original pharmacy container in a cool dark cabinet. Are they still effective? ## When regular prescription tablets and capsules are dispensed, they are required to have a one year shelf life, from the time you get your prescription filled. That means that yours actually expired on 05/02/10. This doesn't mean that they are dangerous to use, but after that date, they can start to lose potency and not be as effective. Have you spoken to your doctor? It may be advisable to just get a new prescription, if you still need to use this medication. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, stomach irritation and headache. ## Taking pills that are expired is not dangerous. They m...

Please tell me the shelf life of Naproxen Sodium 550 mg. Thank you, Druchel Haley ## Every prescription medication, sold in the U.S. must have a shelf life of a year from the original fill-date. Thus, if you had picked it up today, 08/23/2010, the expiration would be 08/23/2011. Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, used to treat pain and swelling. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach irritation. Read more: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I was looking for the same answer and saw this. 36 Months is the shelf life for Naproxen, not 12. I am moving to Florida. I have 50 Suboxone and I would like to save them. How can I keep them fresh and how long will they last until they go bad? ## Hello The Bird, Here are some tips from the medlineplus gov page to keep your pills in the best condition. •Know that heat, air, light, and moisture may damage your medicine. •Store your medicines in a cool, dry place. For example, store it in your dresser drawer or a kitchen cabinet away from the stove, sink, and any hot appliances. You can also store medicine in a storage box, on a shelf, in a closet. •If you are like most people, you probably store your medicine in a bathroom cabinet. But the heat and moisture from your shower, bath, and sink may damage your medicine. Your medicines can become less potent, or they may ...

Does Temaril P have a specific shelf life? The one I have for my dog is from 2 years ago, but the bottle doesn't have an expiration date. I was needing to know if it's still good after 2 years? ## Hi, Shayna! Yes, all medications have a limited shelf life, even those intended for veterinary use. The general rules are… Liquids are only good for approximately 10days, if refrigerated. Tablets that have been placed into a dispensing bottle, such as something you may receive from your vet or pharmacy, are good for one year from the date you receive them. Tablets that are still sealed in the original factory container usually have a shelf-life of about 3 years, until that seal is broken and they are exposed to the elements. Not all medications become dangerous past the expiratio...

How long can you use tigan after the expiration date? The inj. version of tigan? We keep it in a dark cool place and have a brand new bottle and it's that time of year for the stomach virus. ## Hello, Lou! How are you? There isn't necessarily any time of year for stomach viruses, there are several that one could catch and they can occur any time of year. I got a very nasty one back in October and was miserable. The best preventative is washing your hands regularly to help prevent transmission to yourself and others. As to the expired medication, it would be best to dispose of it and obtain a new supply, if you need it. Liquid medications tend to degrade much faster than other forms and they can actually go bad and may make you ill, if you use them. The FDA lists its typical side...

what is the shelf life of the new drug colcrys, which has replaced colchcine ## Is there not an expiration date on the bottle of your prescription? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires that expiration dates be placed on "most" prescription and over-the-counter medications. The expiration date is a guarantee from the manufacturer that a medication will remain stable and effective prior to the date. Most medications do retain most of the potency after the expiration date. However, it is best to adhere to the expiration dates. Because Colcrys appears to be another brand name of Colchicine, I just based my findings off of Colchicine to retrieve more information in searches. Although information on this subject is limited, I did find one user who stated that he stored Colch...
