I have been prescribed oxycodone 5 mg. IMM REL capsules to be taken 2-3 every 4 hrs. for shingles pain. I have never taken this before, however I have chronic pain due to a right hip injury 6 years ago and normally take fiorinal #3 for that and also migraine headaches. I am in a'lot of pain and I am praying this med. will help. I was also prescribed lyrica 75 mg, Valtrex and I already take lexapro and zanax if needed. I am very cautious with medicine. Does anyone have any advice for me? ## Oxycodone is a very potent narcotic pain reliever, it is also highly addictive. The IMM REL stands for Immediate Release, which means the medication is released immediately to start helping with your pain, rather than taking 15 to 20 minutes like regular release tablets. Have shingles, took 4 hydroco/acetaminop 5-325mg tab qua in last 2 days as prescribed. Have not had any relief from excruciating pain. When should I get some relief from pain? ## Hello, Rayna! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry that you're so miserable! The good news is that once is clears up, Shingles doesn't usually recur! Something topical might help a bit more, if used in conjunction with the pills. There are things available over the counter, such as Dermoplast and others that are sold for sunburn and such. If your doctor says it's okay for you to use one, then they can even prescribe something, or your pharmacist can help you find something to try. That problem with herpes viruses is that they are a skin condition, so they are topical and while you can take an ora...

I have nerve pain from shingles, what is the best compounded topical cream too use. ## Hello, Roger! How are you? I really can't say, compounded creams require a prescription from your doctor and are prescribed according to what they know works best according to their experience with other patients. It is an anticonvulsant that also treats some forms of nerve pain and mood disorders. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, to the oral form may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, mood swings, dry mouth and weight gain. What has your doctor advised you to use? ##...

For 10 days (this was the prescription length) I keep in control with baths with baking soda to calm down the pain and burning feeling. After that I was worse than ever. My next trip to urgent care, they prescribed Gabapentin 300 mg 3 times a day, upon following up with my doctor. Doctor prescribed Tylenol #4 for shingles pain. Can Tylenol #4 be split in half? There is too much codeine in a whole one. It makes me light headed and nauseous. ## To the person asking about splitting Tylenol # 4 in half as it is making you feel nausea. My advice would be to make sure you're not talking it on an empty stomach, as with most pain medications they should be taken with food, however, always read and follow any prescriptions directions and understand their side effects. I would immediately stop taking the medication and consult your Doctor to insure your not taking any conflicting medications; or try a synthetic pain reliever such as Hydrocodone, as many people are allergic to Codeine. Personally however I think Codeine/tylenol # 3 and #4 are junk drugs that's uses ...

I was prescribed Percocet 5/325 for shingles. Then my Dr switched it to oxycodone 5/325. What is the difference between the two? ## To me it just sounds like they switched you from the brand name to the generic which contains the same active ingredients and doses. Do you have any other details about the new prescription such as a NDC number or manufacturer name? ## Percocet has Tylenol in it and oxycodone does not... ## Diamond88 you are right but I want to expand on your message just a bit. Percocet does have Acetaminophen (the active ingredient in Tylenol) in it, but it also contains Oxycodone as an active ingredient. Straight Oxycodone is different than Percocet. So, in other words ... Percocet = Acetaminophen + Oxycodone ... Oxycodone is a drug in and of itself which is sometimes an...

Prescribed as a migrane medication ## Is this for treatment of shingles & hand swelling? ## What is the best medication that I can get over the counter at walgreens for herpes (cold sore) on my mouth? ## Blavil is listed as containing Amitriptyline, which is an antidepressant that can also be used to treat migraines, and certain types of nerve pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes. Felix, there is no real over the counter product that is guaranteed to work. What symptoms have you been experiencing? Are you on any other medications? ## Is "Blavil" a foreign brand of Amitriptyline from outside the United States, or is it simply a misspelling of Elavil?

I had been prescribed Lyrica for post herpetic neuropathy following a bout of shingles. Shortly there after I started having imaginary smells and then lost my sense of smell completely. I was informed that I have a condition called anosmia. My doctor recently informed me that there have only been 17 other cases reported relating a connection between Lyrica and loss of smell. Has anyone else had a similar experience? ## It hasn't been mentioned on our site previously, but it is a very, very rare effect that can happen with some medications, including Lyrica. You can learn more about the condition here: It is, sometimes, reversible if the medication causing it is stopped. Has your doctor suggested your trying something else? ## I took Lyrica for about 6 months......significantly relie...
