8 weeks ago my mom was given 10mg citalopram for anxiety. she did not feel any side effect in the first week but afterwards starting having insomnia, upset stomach, tremor, agitation, etc. The psychiatrist increased teh dose to 20 mg daily but this did not solve anything. Today, in the 8th week she could not sleep at all in the night (she felt fresh when going sleeping even she was working the whole day) and in the morning she is feeling needles in the whole body, she is shaking + many other bad feelings. Can be that the dose is too high for her age (74 years old)?. I am afraid not to be the symptoms of a high level of serotonin. ## Those can all be side effects of Celexa. Insomnia is a classic side effect, though some people get sleepy from SSRI's. Seems to depend on the person. Th...

I've been taking citalopram for just over a week and I've got the shakes and my walking has gotten slower. Also, I tend to forget things. I am feeling washed out and tired. I'm not bothering with my appearance as I can't be bothered to even cook myself a hot meal. I'd rather live on crisps and snacks. Is this normal or does it get better with time? ## No, this is NOT normal. It sounds like you are having a bad reaction to the medication and you should contact your doctor immediately to inform them. They will want to rule out other causes and if it is the medication, you may need to try something else. Have you contacted them, yet? ## Hi. How do I ween off of citalopram hbr 20mg? ## Hi, Maria! How are you? Stopping an antidepressant is usually done very slowly, because on top of some withdrawal effects, stopping abruptly might also cause some rebound effects, which could result in very severe depressive symptoms. Learn more Citalopram details here. The most recent preferred method is to start skipping days of dosing, such as taking it one day, then skipping the next. You'd do that for a week or so, to allow your body to adjust to not taking it as often, then you'd start skipping two days and so on. However, it may not be safe for you to use this method, so please check with your doctor, before proceeding. Are there any other questions or concerns?

I have been on 20 mg of Citalopram for 29 days now and not feeling any different. Still did not want to come into work this morning, feeling very anxious and wanting to quit my job to the point my stomach is doing somersaults. Should I not be feeling some internal change by now? ## Yes, it should have started to have some effect after almost a month. However, not every medication works for everyone that tries it, so it could be that just isn't the right one to help you. Have you tried any others, or is this the first? ## Thanks Verwon. No, this is my first medication. Mind you my job is legitimately stressful so that may play into it as well. Funny, had all of the side effects on day two but just not the benefits.

I was on 40mg of Citalopram and slowly over a few months I cut down to 10mg. On Christmas eve I cut it out totally, the main effect of this was sleeping terribly which I know is normal and why I waited until I had time off work. Now I'm back at work I feel very anxious and had diarreah yesterday quite a bit in work. Now I'm worries my ibs-D is making a comeback, or is it just settling back to work anxiety. Not sure if taking propranolol as and when would help with this. Does anyone have any advice? Need to wait around 4 weeks for an appt at my docs surgery so thought be worth trying forums 1st.

Could citalopram Hbr 20 mg tab cause itching of the skin on arms, head and face? Warning on bottle mentions "avoid prolonged sunlight". ## Hi Vickie, If it says to avoid prolonged sunlight, the medication probably causes some sort of Photosensitivity. Photosensitivity is a skin reaction (i.e. rash) that occurs after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or an artificial light source. This could explain the very symptoms you're describing. I do also want to note that itching, rashes, swelling, hives or blisters, are all listed as severe side effects of Citalopram; in which case it would probably be best to let your doctor know about this as soon as possible. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a699001.html#side-effects I hope this information helps! ## Wh...
