Drug Interactions With Levothyroxine

It's been a hypothyroidism nightmare since 1 pembro infusion (a.k.a., 'Keytruda', an immunotherapy drug to treat cancer) killed my husband's thyroid over a period of about 3 months (late September - mid Dec.). No one caught the fact that the 'tipping point' from hyper- to hypo-thyroidism had been reached a few days before Christmas. We ended up in the hospital in Rochester on Dec. 26 for three days, getting treatment for symptoms — excruciating pain/difficulty breathing/rapid heartbeat/edema/swelling — rather than having treatment for the CAUSE of those symptoms, namely hypothyroidism. can u drink any alcohol when ur on levothyroxine as am taking 200mg a day and was just wonering if it was safe to drink on it. ## Are you taking Levothyroxine after your thyroid was removed, or just supplementing with it due to an under-active thyroid? If you are taking Levothyroxine after your thyroid was removed, then from my perspective you have absolutely nothing to worry about if you drink as well. The drug they give you is supposedly identical to the one your body manufactures in the thyroid and therefore has no interactions with alcohol. However, both alcohol and Levothyroxine are broken down in your liver, so after a night of getting drunk or drinking a little too much, you may experience a lot more of the side effects from Levothyroxine, such as diarrhea and palpitations. Is it ok to take l- theanine with levothyroxine and amlodipine besylate ? ## L-Theanine is a natural supplement and therefore could not be checked for interactions in the drug databases. However, since it is an amino acid, in my opinion it would be fine. If you're really still concerned I would suggest visiting a Naturopath regarding this supplement. Interestingly enough, there are interactions found between Levothyroxine and food; same goes for Amlodipine. How much time is needed between dosages of levothyroxine and linzess? I also take metformin. ## Hi Lynn, According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), there are no interactions or contraindications listed between Levothyroxine, Linzess or Metformin. While this doesn't necessarily mean that no interactions exist, it is my own personal opinion that a time gap between dosing isn't required. Nevertheless, I still feel that you should contact your prescribing doctor if you have any concerns about what he/she has recommended for you. Hope this helps!

I am taking Levothyroxine & Evista (Raloxifine) and would like to know if these 2 medications have contraindications or interactions with each other? ## Raloxifine can reduce the amount of Levothyroxine available in the body; this may require your doctor to make a dosage adjustment. Ideally, to avoid this problem, you shouldn't take the two drugs at the same time, they should be taken 12 hours apart.

im taking eltroxin o.1 mg with evion 400,is it harmful to take both medicine at the same time. ## There are no problems with taking these two medications together. Evion contains the active ingredient Vitamin E. And from what I could gather, Eltroxin (Levothyroxine) does not have any interactions with Vitamin E. However, consumption of certain foods as well as the timing of meals relative to dosing may affect the absorption of T4 thyroid hormone (i.e., Levothyroxine). T4 absorption is increased by fasting and decreased by foods such as soybean flour (e.g., infant formula), cotton seed meal, walnuts, dietary fiber, calcium, and calcium fortified juices. it has been suggested that i take gabapentine for peripheral neuropathy. I also take thyroxine - are there any adverse interactions between the two. although gabapentine may ease nerve pain - will it affect my loss of proprioception and balance, which is my greatest concern. ## Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain. I've been taking synrhroid 125 for up to 5 years. Lately I've had a lifttle bit of coughing. Due to this I'm taking Tylenol for Coughing. I've been feeling my tongue and lips numb. Is this normal? ## Tylenol for Cough contains Acetaminophen and Dextromethorphan. The normal side effects can include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and stomach irritation. Synthroid contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine. Common side effects may include: nausea, dry mouth, weight gain and appetite changes. There are no interactions listed for using them together and no, what you are experiencing is not normal. Have you contacted your doctor about it, yet? It could signify a serious health issue, so you do need to get to the root of the problem.

Is Limbrel (contains goitogens) ok to take if I am hypo thyroid and on Levothyroxine? ## Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Limbrel and Levothyroxine. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. Also to note: Limbrel is contraindicated in an extremely small number of patients; being those with hypersensitivity to any component of flavocoxid or to flavonoids. Unless you were diagnosed with this hypersensitivity then I wouldn't worry about this interaction. Does this help to answer your question? I take Linzess 1/2 hr. before breakfast. When should I take my other meds. Levothyroxine I take alone. I also take Furosemide, Januvia, Ramopri, Atenanal, insulin, and Duloxetine . I just started taking both of these pills and I need to know how long to wait to take the other pill. Both pills are to be taken on an empty stomach and first thing in the morning. Plus I need to take calcium for the osteopenia. ## Hi Jolene, Based on my research, there are no drug interactions listed between Atelvia (risedronate) and Synthroid (levothyroxine sodium). So with that in mind, I don't think there would be any problems taking the two tablets at once or within the same time-frame. You are right about food though. It should be avoided at the time of your dosing, since it can supposedly diminish the absorption of each medication. I hope this info helps!

I take synthroid and,belviq in the morning at same time I take linzess.? ## Hi Judy, Upon looking up potential drug interactions, I did find an article noting how Linzess (Linaclotide) has been known to cause diarrhea, which in-turn may affect the absorption of other medications that are taken orally, such as Synthroid (Levothyroxine)... essentially not allowing it to work as well as it should. So if you do decide to take them together, I think it would be equally important to watch for signs/symptoms of decreased thyroid function as a result of this interaction.
