What does it do? ## hi going to sharm in egypt for 2 weeks , went last year and had the dodgy stomach. Can you take anything before you get it as a preventative? ## We spent 3-1/2 weeks in Egypt in September. After the first few days we started to have queasy stomachs and my husband had diarrhea for 3 days. Immodium didn't help him, although Pepto Bismol did calm my stomach a bit. A pharmacist in Aswan recommended Drotazide and it worked wonders. We took it 3 times a day for a couple of days to clear things up. Then once a day as a preventative measure and our stomachs were fine for the rest of the trip. Drotazide is over the counter in Egypt. Buy it and take a tablet once a day as soon as you can. Taking it, we were able to eat fresh fruit and use ice cubes with no bad consequences...

My son & his longterm girlfriend has recently visited Egypt(December).Whilst there they both had a severe gastroenteritis & took OTC medicines as advised by the local chemist. She has since found out she is in early pregnancy. The medication they took was Streptoquin + ? Drotazide. Can these be detrimental in pregnancy?

got tummy bug and wondered if I could take the tablets I bought in egypt streptoquin and diax (havent got any imodium) ## Streptoquin contains 200mgs of Hydroxyquinoline, 2.5mgs of Novatropine, 200mgs of Sulphathiazole and 100mgs of Stremptomycin. This is an anti-infective/antibiotic, so it will only work if your problem is caused by an infection, not a virus or other illness. Have you seen a doctor? It is not wise to use an antibiotic unless it is necessary, due to the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria.
