How is she doing? I'm very sorry about what happened. Did she suffer any adverse effects? Those we very high doses of such medications and could result in a fatal overdose. The FDA also lists these medications as being habit forming and causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness and constipation. I have a question about my medication prescription, my dr had me on 240 10/325 generic Norco (hydrocodone) a month (1-2 every 4-6 hours max dose of 8) he recently needed to bump up the quantity to 270 (9 a day) but apparently my insurance only covers 240 a month. I was wondering if it was possible that the dr could write me the script for the 270 and the pharmacist charge my insurance for 240 of the prescription and charge me for the other 30 or if it all has to be charged to either insurance or me. I live in NY state, any info would be greatly appreciated! ## No, I don't think that will help. There is actually a limit on how much your pharmacy can give you each month and it doesn't matter if your doctor writes the prescription for more. There are government regulations that dic...

IS BUDEPRION THE GENERIC FORM OF WELLBUTION? I HAD BEEN TAKING WILLBUTION BUT RECENTLY WAS CHANGED TO BUDEPRION. I AM FELLING DEFERENT, MUCH THE WAY I FELT BEFORE I STARTED EITHER MEDICATION. WHY? ## Yes, that is the generic form. There are several reasons you could be feeling different from taking a generic version, first of all, generics can differ, under law, from the name brands by as much as plus or minus 20%, so if the company making your generic does not have good quality control, you may not be getting the maximum dose that worked best for you. Another reason could be due to the different inactive ingredients, the binders and fillers that are in the tablets. While these are considered 'medicinally' inactive, they can still effect some people in different ways and can cau...

how do I wean myself off of Oxycontin. Have been taking it 20 years ## Hello, Caryl! How are you? Usually, the modern preferred method is to have the patient start skipping doses, while gradually lowering. However, you will need to speak to your doctor for assistance, since this is a time released medication, so you can't cut it into smaller pieces to lower your dose. But your doctor can prescribe lower doses to help. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Does anyone else have any advice to offer?

I have been taking 325 mg of hydrocodone, only "as needed". A recent trip to hospital & Dr. there gave me a prescription for 15mg morphine. Which one is stronger? Don't think the morphine helps with my pain as much, but it doesn't leave me with a drug "hangover". So, I am assuming hydrocodone is stronger? ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? They are actually equivalent, according to NIH reports, on a 1 to 1 ratio. Thus, since the highest dose available of Hydrocodone contains 10mgs of it accompanied with 325mgs of Acetaminophen, the new dose of Morphine is actually stronger. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Are you getting pain re...

I have been taking Nuzak for years and years ago I weaned myself to 1 a day. How do I stop completely? I am 67 years old ## Hello, Nicole! How are you? Why are you stopping it? Is your doctor aware that you are doing so? This is an SSRI antidepressant, so it is best to stop it as gradually as possible, to avoid severe rebound effects. What dose are you currently taking? ## 20mg a day

I accidentally took a double dose of irbesartan this morning (300 mg a pill), plus half of a metoprolol. What will happen? Side effects? ## Hello, Cathy! How are you feeling? Did you experience any adverse effects? In most cases, a double dose is not dangerous, though the FDA does warn that doubling up may cause your blood pressure to drop lower than usual, which may also result in shallow breathing, and lowered heart rate. Are these the only medications you currently take? ## I forgot to take my Irbesartan 150 mg this morning and I took it at 1:30 pm! I take Metoprolol SUCC ER 50 mg! It is now 9:00 pm! Is it ok to take the Metoprolol now?

I just had a titanium rod put in my leg with 3 screws to hold it in place. Needless to say it's been a very painful experience. Prior to the surgery I was on suboxone therapy for about 5 years. It's the only thing that ever worked for me and completely saved my life. I am successful now in life, happy and a productive member of this world!!! I owe everything to this medication. The problem is that my Dr's thought weaning me off of the sub's one week prior to the surgery would be okay and it wasn't. The pain medication did not work very well and I had to take way more to have it even touch the pain. Today I thought maybe my suboxone would help better so I took 2 8mg tablets this morning at 6am. Because I have been off of the subs for 2 weeks would I be able to take my...

I take tramadol a lot and want to stop I have been on them 10 yrs and want to stop I also get zolpiclone for sleep and I feel so ill if I don't take these tablets ## Hello, Misty! How are you? The FDA does list Tramadol as an opiate that may be habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, you'll most likely need to do a very slow taper to avoid the withdrawal effects. Have you consulted your doctor about stopping it? They should be able to help you set up a proper withdrawal schedule. What dose do you take and how often do you take it?

What does Take 1 Tablet by Mouth Three Times A Day mean? Should I take it every 8 hours? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? Sorry about the confusion, I'm happy to help clear this up for you. Generally, this means when you wake up, another a mid day and then one in the evening or with dinner. Unless the prescription specifically says to take it every 8 hours, then it doesn't have to be precisely dosed that way. What medication was prescribed?

I do believe I may have taken 2 of all my medications tonight by accident: Atenolol 50mg, Losartan 25 mg, Eszopiclone 3mg, Esomeprazole 40mg. Will I be alright? ## The main concern here is the Ezopiclone, since taking a double dose could result in excessive sedation and depression of the cental nervous system, according to FDA reports. How are you doing, now? Did you experience any adverse effects?

I think I took 2 losartan 40 mg pills and 4 milligrams of alprazolam at the same time. I was in a hurry... What might I expect? ## While it is always best to check with a medical professional, the FDA warns that you may experience more severe side effects than usual, such as nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness. Your blood pressure may also drop lower than normal due to the double dose of Losartan. How are you feeling? Did you experience any adverse effects? ## If I took a whole bunch of Blood Pressure Medicine and 4 mgs of Xanax I might not want to go out or get behind an automobile, especially while being in a hurry? ## Never get behind the wheel when unsure because prescription medication is almost worse than illegal drugs. Sometimes you dont realize youre impaired (this is from experie...

I'm on oxycodone 10-325mg every 8 hours. I'm having my 4th cervical/thoracic surgery in less than two years, next week and it will be changed to every 4 hrs. I will run out before my time to get it filled. What should I do? ## Hi Roni! If your Dr. Changes your dose 2 take more medication, then, they will realize u r going 2 run out earlier. And, when u do, they should give u another prescription. That's happened 2 me. The Doctor increased my meds. After surgery, and, I ran out early. They gave me another prescription.

I missed my morning meds and took them late this afternoon . pradaza and cardizen. I am due a night dose at 8 so do I just skip night dose and start regular rigimen in the morning? ## Hello, Jackie! How are you? Unless your doctor instructs otherwise, the FDA directs that you take the missed dose of a medication as soon as you remember, unless it's close to the time for the next dose, then you should skip it and just return to your regular dosing schedule. The typical side effects of these medications are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there...

I've been taking 50mg for about a week but my pain has gotten worse. I went to my dr. today and he told me to start taking 150mg. I take trazadone, gabapentin methocarbomol. I'm afraid to take these but can't sleep without them. Do you think I'd be safe to take them? My last dose of nucynta was at 6pm. I'm not experiencing any effects ## Hello, Sandi! How are you? You should take what your doctor has prescribed for you, unless he has instructed you to stop taking them. It may cause you to experience more drowsiness and dizziness than usual, combined with the higher dose of the Nucynta, so you should be aware of that. As to any warning signs, if it is possible too much, the dizziness and drowsiness with become severe and you may also start experiencing shallow breathin...

I'm wondering if I should take a few more because I have a hot tolerance due to cancer I'm terminally ill. ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? No, the Codeine in this is actually a very weak/mild narcotic and you cannot keep taking multiples, due to the risk of Acetaminophen toxicity. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
