Hi! Is it ok to split the dose of amlodipine; 5mg in the morning and 5mg in the evening? What could be the possible effect of doing this? ## Yes, that can be done, unless you've been given some specific reason why you shouldn't do so. I consume 1 grapefruit (1/2 grapefruit daily) for a long time and now I am on Amlodipine - can it affect my creatinine count ? ## Hi Donna, nlm.nih.gov notes that, "Coadministration of 240 mL of grapefruit juice with a single oral dose of amlodipine 10 mg in 20 healthy volunteers had no significant effect on the pharmacokinetics of amlodipine." However, an article I found on Livestrong.com makes a point of stating that, "If you take amlodipine -- or any other kind of calcium channel blocker -- do not take them with grapefruit, grapefruit juice or grapefruit dietary supplements, because serious, possibly fatal, reactions may occur." "Grapefruit inhibits your CYP34A enzyme, a protein that helps your body metabolize drugs. When your body fails to properly metabolize dru...

I take 1 Lisinopril at 10:30 am, 1 Amlodipine at 3:50 pm, and another Lisinopril at 10:15 pm ... BUT, I accidently switched the 3:50 dose of Amlodipine and took the Lisinopril. Is there a cause for concern? I am a 58 year old female who suffered 2 TIAs. I also have carotid stenosis, left atrial enlargement, and diabetes type 2. Please advise. ## There shouldn't be any reason for concern, unless your doctor feels otherwise, but you should skip the next dose, so you don't end up taking too much of the Lisinopril. As a matter of fact, most people take Lisinopril as a once daily dose, rather than splitting the dosage, since it tends to help people remember to take it, if they don't have to remember repeated dosages. Taking too close together with the previous dose may increase s...

Can these be taken together in the evening? And will it be effective for 24 hrs? I'm too sleepy during the day!! ## Hi, Margo! You really should check with your doctor, before changing to taking them at night. It's really going to depend on your blood pressure levels and heart rate, as well as the symptoms. Usually, it's preferred that they be taken in the morning, to help control your blood pressure and heart rate during the times of day that you'll be most active and therefore experiencing the most fluctuations. But if you are severely drowsy from them, they may allow you to switch to taking them at night. Another alternative is splitting up the doses, so you take part of your dose in the morning and then the rest in the evening, which could lessen the side effects. Ma...
