My child is 12 and 100lbs. Should I give her 500 mg or 250 mg of penicillan vk. It is for an oral infection. ## Hello, Lulu! How is your daughter? This should not be given, unless her doctor has confirmed the presence of an infection and prescribed it. If she doesn't have an infection, then giving her an antibiotic creates the risk of her developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. If she does have one, it may not be the right antibiotic. Is this a dental issue, or something else?

My dog has an ear infection and I have some bactrim ds that I couldn't take. I was wondering if he could take this medicine and what dosage would I give him? He weighs 23-25 lbs. ## Hi Kat, When it comes to potent antibiotics such as Bactrim, I feel it is vital to contact an experienced veterinarian who can assess the dog's condition in person first and then make an appropriate medical decision based off their evaluation. Just to add, Bactrim is in fact prescribed to dogs and cats alike for various types of infections. My only concern is that Bactrim tends to cause a lot of side effects in humans, so I can only hope that your dog has a positive response to it. If you have a moment, please post back on how things are going with treatment. ## How much bactrim should I give my 60lb...

I don’t feel I’m getting the proper dosage of my Xanax. I feel overmedicated... I just want to feel normal. Is 2 mg extended-release and up to 6 mg short-acting considered a high or low dose? ## One 2 MG Xanax XR would be about as much as you would want to take. An additional 6 MG of Xanax in any other form, with or without the 2 MG Xanax XR is too much, way too much! ## Hello Wendy, Nobody on this forum is going to be able to tell you what the proper dosage is for you. I'm not trying to be rude or discredit anyone here but every person reacts to medication differently. If you feel that the dosages that you are taking are too much that would be a discussion you need to have with the doctor who is prescribing you the medication. What I can tell you is that there are defin...

Can I double up on my first dose of Bactrim to jump start the attack on my infection? ## I would be very careful about doubling up on the first dose, due to the fact of possible allergic reaction to the medication, which is significant'y higher with sulfur based drugs. ## Though this is an old post, I would like to add that doubling up is not a good idea, for more reasons than just the worry of an allergic reaction. When you take a certain medication, your body can only absorb and use a certain amount of it and the rest is just expelled as waste, or if you take too much, then you get the symptoms of overdose! ## Thank you very much for this information I am another person not the original person who asked the question... But I was just recently given Bactrim for cystitis and my conc...

What is the dosage for a 40 lb dog with a severe bladder infection? How long does it need to be taken? ## Hi Bunny, From what I could gather, the standard dose of Amoxicillin for dogs is reportedly 5 mg for every pound the dog weighs [administered every 12 hours], or 10 mg per pound [administered every 24 hours]. I haven't come across any specific details concerning the duration of treatment, but I'd imagine that it would differ on a case by case basis depending on the type and severity of the infection. Nevertheless, I think it would ultimately be your safest bet to have a veterinarian determine which dosing regimen to go by after evaluating the dog in person. Hope this helps! ## My two dogs had a fight , both 130-135 lbs. They both were bit in the leg an head. I put triple ant...

What is the normal dosage for a person weighing 114 pounds? I was given a prescription for 960 twice daily for 10 days. ## Hi Lee, Unfortunately there aren't any dosing instructions for this medication that are based on someone's weight. Usually, your doctor or pharmacist is the one who provides you with dosing instructions upon writing/receiving your prescription. He/she prescribed you a certain dosage based on their evaluation of you, your medical records, and other individual factors. So if something doesn't seem right about it, then you really need to go discuss this with your doctor before moving forward with treatment. What type of infection are you taking it for? ## Actually it was for my dog,David.. The way I worded the question was misleading. I was upset at the tim...

I need info on the actual dosage of atropine for treating excess saliva. ## Is there any significant side effect of atropine meant to prevent excess saliva secretion? ## I want to know if I can safely use Atropine Sulfate as a treatment for excessive saliva? Does it have sulfa in it? I am allergic to sulfa. Also, is it safe to use under the tongue? ## It can depend on the person and their tolerance of the medication and what the effective dosage is for them. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and heat intolerance. Carolyn, are you allergic to sulfa, or sulphur?

Same as above how many mg Percocet are usually taken for pain relief. What is a high dose and how often are 20 mg taken ## The highest available dose of Percocet, according to the FDA website, contains 10mgs of Oxycodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen, so there is no 20mg dosage available in the U.S. Were you referring to just Oxycontin tablets? They are available in a 20mg dosage, but do not include the Acetaminophen and they're in a time released formulation. It is classified as a narcotic analgesic, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. As to how much is taken, that may differ from person to person, depending on what dose best controls their pain and what dosage their doct...

I have a chest cold that won't go away. My doctor recommend I take Amox K Clav 500 125- 1 pill, 3 times a day. I am a small person and weigh under 75lbs. Do consider that dosage be too much for someone my size for the next 10 days? ## This is a generic for the antibiotic Augmentin and chest cold is caused by a virus, which would not respond to an antibiotic, so its likely that it has turned into an infection. And yes, that is the usual adult dosage for a severe infection, one tablet every 8 hours for 7 to 10 days. Learn more Augmentin details here. Did you discuss your concerns with your doctor, or pharmacist? You are very tiny, which means such an infection could be really dangerous, so it is important that you treat it properly. I am taking the antipsychotic Seroquel, what is the normal dosage one should take? ## I take 1400 mgs of seroquel a day is this normal ? ## Although that is way too much for me, its a common dosage amount for some. Alzheimer patients and those with severe psychosis often get 3500 mg and up according to my doc. I was prescribed 50 mg per day 5 years ago for shift work disorder. (an off label use) About an hour later I've got quite the buzz, and sleep well. ## I was told 800mg is the max dosage however I don't know your history. I was on 25mg for 7 years and it worked better then than my.200mg I now take.for bipolar. It is an amazing drug once your body gets used to it. My dr explained it like a shotgun shell. Is it normal for a Doctor to prescibe someone to take 1- 10/325mg oxycodone 4x a day? ## Well, they can be prescribed anywhere from 1 every 8 hours, to 1 every 6, or 1 every 4. So yes, it depends on the patient, their tolerance to narcotics, and how bad their pain is that needs controlling. ## Yes that can be normal. I take 2 10/325 percocets every 4 hours. So you take 1 every 6 hours which =4 per day: mine =12 per day ## Absolutely. Doctors will in cases of more severe pain, prescribe more ## Wish you luck! google team. ## isn't possible for a person to become addicted to saboxion? ## that is a normal dose, an depending on pain , it can be increased, if needed, more Dr.s are trying to get all patients on extended medication nowadays with instant releif for a break-thru ## Yes. i ha...

They say that if blood pressure isn't lowered by taking hyzaar 50/12.5 mgs once a day, then upping the dosage to hyzaar 100/12.5 mgs will not make much of a difference... Is that true? ## It really depends, if it doesn't work, at all, that can be true and the person will most likely need to try a different medication. If it helps some, but doesn't take it down to the ideal level, then a higher dose could help. I experienced this, when I first started Labetalol, the initial dose of 100mgs did help, but I wasn't at the best numbers, so we took it up to 200mgs and now it works very well for me. However, I've also had others I tried that did nothing, so my cardiologist didn't think it was worth trying higher doses, since they just didn't seem to work for me. The ...

I am male, 62 years, 82kg, 172cm height, vegetarian, not eating eggs, eat vegetables, milk curd about 200 ml per day and one 500mg Shelcal tablet. Bone density T score is -1.7 and Z score -1.5. Kindly advise if calcium supplement of 500mg per day should be continued or modified. ## What has your doctor advised? They are really the best person to consult in such situations, since they are familiar with your medical history. It can really depend on if it's pushing the level up, or just maintaining it.

My daughter is just go on to rivaroxaban, why do they start on 15 mgs the go up to 20mgs .Thanks, this is new in the UK. ## It is common with some medications to start someone on one certain dosage that is known to be well tolerated, then go up to the next, once it has been ascertained that the person suffered no serious ill effects from the initial dosage. Learn more Rivaroxaban details here. This is an anticoagulant, so it is completely normal for a doctor to proceed with caution, especially since they have to watch for any signs of bleeding. How long will she be on the 15mg, before going up?

I accidentally have my husband 60 mg of nifedipine twice today. Will it hurt him? ## How is he doing? Did he suffer any adverse effects? Anytime something like this happens, it is best to contact the prescriber, or poison control to be sure of the person's safety. While there are those of us online that are happy to help, if we can, we cannot administer life saving procedures, if they'd be needed. Doubling up on a medication such as this could cause hypotension and dangerously lowered heart rate.

Hello. What is the highest amount of adderall a person can take a day? And what is the highest milligram of adderall that comes in a tablet or capsule? ## The highest dosage available is 30mgs in both forms. Generally, the maximum daily dose is 60mgs to treat ADHD, and 80mgs if someone is being treated for Narcolepsy, according to FDA prescribing directives for approved doses. They do warn that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, anorexia, insomnia, and nervousness. Has this medication been prescribed for you? Are you on any other medications?

Hi, I bought some kratom (green malay) in capsule form. The capsules contain around 0.38mg per capsule. How many do I need to take for minimum desired effect? I tried 3 yesterday to no avail. Tried 6 around an hour ago and I don't feel anything. ## I would recommend ordering the tri force blend from KratomOne. Their shipping is insanely fast and I've found this blend to be the most beneficial. I take around a tablespoon at a time. ## @The original poster, The threshold dose for my personal use of kratom is eight to 12 "00" size capsules (around 1 teaspoon) depending on the quality and strain. It may be that you are just under the threshold dose when taking only 6 capsules (which I know already seems like a lot of capsules to take), but that's just been my experience....

Accidentally, took 40 mg. of prednisone. How do I taper off the drug now? ## Hi Judy, If you overdosed on your medication and are concerned about the possible ramifications of having done so, I would encourage you to call the American Association of Poison Control at: 1 (800) 222-1222. Better safe than sorry, right? As far as a tapering plan goes, this is really something you and your doctor should work closely on developing in order to ensure that the instructions are tailored to your medical history and other pertinent/personal information. There is no one size fits all when it comes to starting or stopping any medication. I just hope you're feeling alright by now.
