Does Subutex Treat Pain

Good morning everyone. I'm taking Subutex I've been on it for about 6 months now. I'm 62 years old and I'm doing great on the Subutex except at my age I do have severe pain. I'm going to ask my doctor when I go back next month is there anything you can take for pain that will work with the Subutex? I don't mean Tylenol or Ibuprofen because it just doesn't work. Any suggestions you kind people. Thank you have a great day. Just hurting. ## I'm sorry, but there are no opiates that will work with Subutex. By its very nature, the Buprenorphine in it latches onto your opiate receptors, and takes a stronger hold than all other available opiates, that is one of the ways it helps prevent people from still abusing them, while undergoing treatment with it. However, ...

I've been a Subutex patient for a year taking 8mg a day. If I get in an accident, how can a doctor treat me for pain. I've been worried about this ever since I started and I haven't spoke to my doctor yet. I sincerely do not care about getting high anymore and this really bothers me. Can somebody please help? Thank you! ## There is no need to worry, they will be able to treat you. Subutex only contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine, it does not contain the added Naloxone that Suboxone does, which is the ingredient that neutralizes other opiates. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you! That...

I take the max dose of suboxone 8-3 3times a day with out much pain or anxiety relief. Is subutex better and is it ok for me to ask my doc to switch ## Hello again, Lorcos! The difference is that Suboxone contains Buprenorphine and Naloxone, while Subutex only contains the Buprenorphine. And under current DEA directives, unless someone has a serious allergy to the Naloxone, they must be prescribed Suboxone and Subutex is to be reserved for pregnant women. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your reply, It was truly very hel...

Small white round pill with the numbers 54 755 on the same side. ## I was using perk 10s for over a year and having a hard time coming off this opiate being told if wanting to be free of this addiction and using subutex the right way will be very helpful in my recovery ## Yes, this tablet is manufactured by Roxane Laboratories, and they list it as containing 2mgs of Buprenorphine, which is most commonly used to help treat drug addiction, and to treat some forms of chronic pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. The inactive ingredients may include: citric acid anhydrous, corn starch, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, mannitol, povidone, sodium citrate, though they may vary depending...

Im looking for a doctor who will prescribe subutex or soboxone for pain management. I have horrible chronic pain and am finding trouble finding a doctor who will listen and help with the pain not just addiction treatment. If anyone has any suggestions for me that would be great. I have a list of a few doctors who do prescribe it but it says for addiction treatment. The doctor I go to now has a giant sign saying they wont treat chronic pain. Kokomo area would be preferred but I will make the drive to wherever if its worth it. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Why would someone take suboxone and subutex at the same time. Are they not basically treating the same condition? ## Yes, the only difference is that the Suboxone contains Naloxone, to neutralize other narcotics that someone may try to take at the same time. However, the narcotic in both is Buprenorphine, which is used to treat drug addiction and severe cases of pain that is resistant to other medications. Have they both been prescribed to someone?

Please help me I've been on this medicine since I was a child I am now 40 years old I need to find a doctor in Charleston South Carolina that will prescribe me Subutex for pain not for addiction. I've lost my job my quality of life is non existent. Doctors will write me a script for oxycottin, opiates before they'll treat my pain with subutex. Please if anyone reads this & can tell me where im forever in your debt. Opiates; I won't do that I refuse to do that please help me!!!! ## Subutex is an opiate, just like the others, it contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine. Ref: Subutex Information The FDA warns that it also carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. What is the maximum dose of suboxone or subutex when you have severe pain? ## What is the maximum daily dose of subutex? I'm taking it to wean off of opiate pain killers but may need to stay on it for chronic pain. My doctor has me taking 2mg up to 6 times a day, but it feels like too much and I feel sick at 6 mg. I can't imagine taking more. Any answers would be helpful... thanks. ## If u have true clinical pain suboxone will not work it is for opiate detox only. It is an opiate blocker which will in turn allow your brain to make its own dopamine. ## feelinbettergoinbroke is wrong, suboxone is used for the treatment of chronic pain. Although, I think the reason you are getting sick is because your doctor has you taking 2mg up to 6 times a day. That in itself is causing you to b...

I am really having a hard time finding a doctor who treats with Subutex and not Suboxone. I have chronic pain syndrome and relief-seeking behavior soon became drug-seeking behavior. My psychiatrist put me on Subutex, and my pain was reduced a little, but I wasn't so much into drug seeking anymore. I was treated for 5 years. Then I moved, and I can't find anyone in Ohio who does this. I might have to move back to Chicago! Any suggestions? ## What is your particular issue with using Suboxone, rather than Subutex? They both contain the exact same narcotic to treat pain and/or addiction, Buprenorphine. The only difference is that the Suboxone also contains Naloxone, to help prevent someone from abusing other narcotics, while they are using it. If you are no longer having a problem w...

I want to stop chasing pain pills and get on subutex .ive tried them and they take craving away and pain do u think ill get a scipt. I am going to mason ohio ## Hello, Melissa! How are you? It depends on the doctor there and what his policy is, this medication is meant to treat hard core addiction and not the use of just regular prescribed opiates. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can you post back and let me know how your appointment went?

I'm 32 and I have been an opiate addict for about 3 years. It started innocently as treatment for my RA and just blew out of control. I tried detox and all that before and ended in failure, so I found a good Dr and started suboxone treatment and have not touched a pain pill since. However 4 months ago I found out I was pregnant and rather than risk a miscarriage from withdraw my Dr changed my script to subutex. I'm truly terrified of my labor because I have a phobia of needles so an epidural is out of the question for me. My Dr said they can give me a higher dose of pain meds thru my labor for pain but I'm so scared they will overdose me or harm the baby. What are the risks of taking pain medication while on the subutex? Does anyone know? ## I am not going to deny that labor...

I need to find a doctor to prescribe subutex for pain. Can Doctors in TN prescribe it for pain? If so, what doctors in middle TN do prescribe it for pain? I was on pain pills for years. They don't help any more. Only subutex does. Please help. I'm desperate. ## Hello, Robin! How are you? Yes, any doctor can prescribe it for pain. However, since it is a controlled substance, if you require it on a long-term ongoing basis for the treatment of chronic pain, you'll most likely need to see a pain management specialist. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. But you'll have to set up an appointment with a doctor, withou...

Dear VerWon, I now know the difference between suboxone and subtext. But, why would one Dr. Choose one over the other? Is the suboxone used for addiction and subtext used for just pain? ## Hello, Cats68! How are you? As I said in my prior post, Suboxone includes Naloxone to prevent the abuse of other narcotics, while someone is being treated with it for addiction and that is exactly why it is usually preferred over Subutex. Subutex is usually the choice when someone has a bad reaction to the Naloxone or is pregnant. However, both can treat pain. Does this clear it up for you? :-) ## Dear Dr. Thank u for the information. All cleared up. ## As for mself....I had major allergic reactions to generic suboxone pills as well as name brand and subutex. The only form of combination of meds was S...

Anyone know a practicing knowledgable subutex doctor for chronic pain management. I have to live with pain chronic. I tried Dr. Reichmen which is very experienced but full no new patients. Pls anyone I have 2 weeks left. God Bless. . ## Hello, Cota! How are you? What you actually need to find is a pain management specialist, since any of them can prescribe it for pain. The only restriction for prescribing it is for doctors that have the waiver to use Subutex/Suboxone for addiction treatment. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Do you currently have a PCP that can refer you to someone? Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area? ## Even some doctors don...

I been on subutex for past 5yrs for pain management. I'm allergic to the naloxone in the suboxine films. I just moved to Florida from north Carolina and can't find a doctor to prescribe me what I need. If u have any information to help me, please let me know. Thanks! ## Who was your doc I'm in nc and desperately need like you. ## Tjuggz, This forum is not a medical referral nor protocol recommending site. History has proven when these prescribers are disclosed they are inundated with legit and recreational users as well often necessitating said provider to cease operations. Sadly it's the way our medical system has degraded that so many are left untreated but risking the treatment of those with established providers isn't the answer. I found Subutex in my daughter's room with a needle. Do people really IV this? Why do people take it that dont need it? ## The pill in description is Buprenorphine hydrochloride (subutex) 8 mg. It is a semi-synthetic opioid that is used to treat opioid addiction in higher dosages (>2mg) and to control moderate pain in non-opioid tolerant individuals in lower dosages (~200 mg). Yes, Subutex can be administered intravenously. This is a very addictive drug that gives off a euphoric rush similar to other opioids in addition to a slight "upper"-like effect. ## Hello, administering these intravenously is very dangerous so please take them from her and tell her she is messing with her life, i am only 24 and have never used a needle but have had drug problems all my life since i...

I take subutex for opiate addiction but I'm still in chronic pain. Will oxymorphone be blocked by buprenorphine in subutex like it blocks other full opiate agonists? ## Hello, Robin! How are you? No, it isn't the Buprenorphine that blocks anything. I believe you're actually thinking of Suboxone, which contains Buprenorphine and Naloxone, it is the Naloxone that blocks other opiates, not the Buprenorphine. Subutex doesn't contain the Naloxone, so it doesn't block them. Oxymorphone is also a very potent narcotic, so you shouldn't take it, without your doctor's approval and supervision. If you're being treated for addiction, it may also be against the rules of your treatment contract. Is there anything else I can help with? *These medications carry the risk ...

Been taking Hydrocodone now for about 10 years for back injuries. They don't work very well for me anymore and was wondering if taking Subutex would be something to consider if they can help with the pain. I never have enough Norco's to last the entire month. ## Hello, Nick! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. Have you ever tried Oxycodone or Dilaudid? One of them would most likely be the next step, rather than jumping from Norco to Subutex. They are other options to discuss with your doctor. Subutex doesn't work well for everyone for pain. According to treat he FDA,these are narcotic analgesics, and have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
