I just started Opana 30mg twice a day and I didn't think it was working either, but 4 days into in, my pain has decreased from an 8 to a 2-3. You have to be patient and allow several days for it to reach a steady level in your system. Be patient...it will work. I have taken less breakthrough meds over the past several days than over the past 10 years. All I need now is 1-2 per day. If you are really looking for pain relief I would highly recommend the opana, and I have tried all but the fentanyl patches. If your looking for a high, don't bother....but they do make me a little sleepy but I will take that over pain anyday! ## Hello, Shelbygirl1970! Thank you for your very helpful post! I am glad that this medication is working for you. And yes, that is correct. While narcotic anal...

IF A DOCTOR PRESCRIBES A PATIENT OPANA AND MORPHINE, FOR CHRONIC PAIN, AND PRESCRIBES THEM SAPHRIS FOR BIPOLOR DISORDER, IS IT OK TO MIX THESE TOGETHER? IS IT A GOOD COMBINATION OR BAD? I KNOW SOMETIMES DIFFERENT PEOPLE REACT DIFFERENTLY TO MEDICATION, BUT I JUST WANT TO KNOW IF ITS OK. ## The combination can have additive effects, which can increase the risk of psychomotor impairment and depression of the central nervous system, so your doctor does have to take the dosage under careful consideration. They should be monitoring you regularly for any problems and you should be made aware to watch for any problems, such as lowered heart rate and blood pressure, in case you need to seek medical attention. Are there any other questions or comments?

I have been on 15 mg opana er for 2 years. My appointment is in two hours to be put on morphine. They want to put me on 15 mg of that as well. I have a brain disease and suffer from chronic headaches and severe eye pressure. Is this even close to providing the same relief? And I also have epilepsy and if I go through withdrawals I can start to have seizures. How much morphine would it take to equal the 15 mg of opana ER? ## From what I've been reading Opana is fixing to be removed by the FDA because of abuse. Oxymorphone was around in the 1970's and was removed because of abuse. Although it remained in hospitals in inj. form since then and through today. I asked my pain management doctor about what I read about the FDA going to pull Opana and he said that it's more than like...

I am on 40mg of Opana and 15 mg ir morphine for 3 ruptured discs. . When I take the morphine it makes me tired. Is there an IR that will not make me groggy? ## Hello, Steven! How are you? Drowsiness is a possible side effect of all narcotics, it's really just a matter of trial an error to find one that works for you, without making you sleepy. Morphine did the same thing to me, when I was on it, I could barely ever stay awake. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you tried Oxycodone? It may work better for you.

For my chronic pain, kadian lyrica and diazapham, work great. I function and I am slowly getting my life and happiness back. I can't take hydro morph or oxy as I get very ill from them, finding the right DR makes the biggest difference. ## I am in the Saskatchewan area, I'm now finding that, it's not working like the first few days, Dr increased to 3 a day, I get very ill with alot of the other pain medications so myooptions are limited, if any one could help me I'd be greatful The ## Melanie, I have a very close friend that went from Opana to Kadian. He had a adjustment period where the dosage was lowered and raised to find the amount that works on a continuous basis for him. Most of that change was during the first month, then he hit the right dosage and has leveled ou...

These are both opiates, but is there any specific difficulties in mixing these two meds? ## There are actually interactions found between Morphine and Opana. Specifically related to the central nervous system: "Central nervous system- and/or respiratory-depressant effects may be additively or synergistically increased in patients taking multiple drugs that cause these effects, especially in elderly or debilitated patients. During concomitant use of these drugs, patients should be monitored for potentially excessive or prolonged CNS and respiratory depression." Also to note, Morphine interacts with alcohol in a somewhat similar manner: "The central nervous system-depressant effects of morphine and alcohol may be additive. The combination may result in additive CNS-depression ...

My Dr prescribed opana er 10 mg for pain. I was prescribed morphine sulfate er 60 mg and at one time was prescribed as much as 130 mg before i had surgery(gastric bypass which took a lot of pressure off of my back) and allowed me to lower my dosage. But since I've changed to Opana Er its just not enough for the pain. I don't sleep and if I do doze of I wake up from the pain. I'm desperate for help and think I need to be put back on morphine sulfate. My Gastric Dr instructed me to chew, crush or break my medications but with extended release you can't do that. Many pain management is almost greeting ready to send me to another state where they can treat me more efficiently. I can't afford to be going back and fourth to another state. I want to get my gastric Dr to app...

is opana a mixture of morphine and oxycodone? i know that it is oxymorphone, but i don't know what that is and i am allergic to morphine. ## No, Oxymorphone is a complete, separate compound, it does not contain Morphine or Oxycodone. However, it is distantly related to Morphine and there is a warning about it being used in patients who are sensitive to or allergic to Morphine. While it is rare, some can be allergic to this, as well. Has your doctor prescribed it or suggested using it? Are they aware of your allergy? Learn more: ## I'm allergic to Morphine and I take 4 40MG Opana ER a day.I've been taking them for 4 months now and no reactions. ## I need a new strong pain killer, not the gradual release kind. I've been taking 8mg. Of Hydromorphone 3x a day for 4yrs. My Pa...

just wanted to know if there is a difference between the 2. I am perscribed morphine sulfate er 15 mg twice daily. My neck has been operated on a few times so i have severe pain daily. I forgot my pills at home over the weekend. My mother is perscribed Opana 10mg. She gave me one and it seemed to work better. Wanted to know if there is a difference between the 2. I am not sure how to go about asking my dr to switch me. Don't want her to freak about my mom giving me one of hers... ## Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone and it is actually stronger than Morphine. So, the one 10mg tablet that you took was actually equal to taking 30mgs of the Morphine, at once. They are both narcotics, so the side effect profile is similar and can include: nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and ...

I was taking 4 80 mg oxys daily my doc put me on 2 100 mg teva morphines will it help the same and will i go through withdraw thank you ## There may be some issues here, because the Oxycodone is actually 1 and a half time stronger than the Morphine, so you'd need 120mgs of Morphine to equal each 80mg dose you were taking of the Oxycodone. Learn more Oxycodone details here. Learn more Morphine details here. Why did he change your medication? ## Pain Meds 101: For chronic pain management...the best result is almost always a long acting med (OxyCONTIN (currently no generic so $$$), Morphine Sulfate E/R extended release, Opana (not my particular fave), Fentanyl Patches and Exalgo). I am in pain management and I currently take oxy 30mg 3x's a day... my doctor is willing to switch me to something else if I want, since the oxys do not provide enough relief. when I asked her what kind of dose I would start at the only thing she would match mg for mg would be morphine..opana she will only start me at 20mg 2 per day. does anyone know if this would be equal to the oxy I take now?? I have read all about how opana is supposed to be about twice as strong as oxy but still I was afraid to switch.. also, does opana " feel " the same as oxy??? thanks to all for reading and replying, HOUSE ## Hello, House! How are you? Morphine is actually weaker than Oxycodone, so matching mg for mg likely won't work. If you were taking 30mgs of Oxycontin, you'd need 45mgs o...

Can a 60mg morphine pill be mixed with SAPHRIS 10MG SUBLINGUAL TABLET, I take two 10mg saphris tablets a day, normally at bedtime. I just want to know if it is safe or not. Please help me with this very important question. ## IF A DOCTOR PRESCRIBES YOU SAPHRIS, OPANA, AND MORPHINE ALL TOGETHER, DOES IT SEEM LIKE THIS IS A SAFE COMBINATION? ## The Asenapine in the Saphris can be used with narcotic analgesics, however, the dosage does have to be taken under careful considered by the prescribing doctor. They do tend to have additive effects, which can increase the risk of central nervous system depression, which can cause lowered blood pressure, lowered breathing rate and lowered blood pressure. Have you discussed this with your doctor? ## hey so there is such thing as a 60 miligram opana? ...

I ran out of Opana ER 40mg. I take 7 tabs at a time. That is 280mgs. I have Morphine Sulphate ER 200mg each. How do I do a conversion so I know how many Morphine Sulphate to take until I can get my script for Opana refilled? ## Wow! That's a very high dosage to be taking and I'm very sorry that you ran out. How did you run out? Is your doctor aware that you take that many at once? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I am just concerned, since that is such a large dosage and has the potential to be dangerous. Learn more Morphine details here. As to the conversion, Opana is stronger than Morphine, so you'd require 840mgs of the Morphine to be equal to the 280mgs of Opana, but it is a time released formulation, so you can't cut or split the tablets. And I also have t...

I need to find a doctor in East TN that will write me my Opana ER 40's back or at least give me Morphine 100's back and will take Tn care Blue Cross/Blue Shield medicaid or cash. I have lots of back problems among other chronic pain issues and have extensive records to prove it all! If anyone knows of one around here or anywhere close to here i'll travel too, i'd really appreciate the info. I also need a psychiatrist that takes medicaid as well. I'm NOT a pill head! I honestly got pinned between two cars and it broke my back, herniated 4 discs in my lower spine and two in my neck, fractured both hips, dislocated my right knee and tore a ligament in my right ankle, so I've been in a LOT of pain these last two months since my pain doctor closed his office! I was wondering I had a pill I know it was morhine. it was an oblong blue shape and color. It has been awhile I'm a chronic pain patient and I cannot take the newoxy op's I took 80mg 3x a day for along time. I know that is alot of info I just need to knoww. So if you know any of it let me know. THANKS ## If the Morphine ER didn't work for you, then it makes sense that the MS Contin also didn't, because they are both time released Morphine tablets. i am on morphine sulphate and oxycodone the oxy helps the morphine doesnt is there an alternative to morpine ## There are many other narcotic pain medications on the market. The one most commonly used to replace Morphine, since it is more powerful and requires a much lower dosage is Opana, which contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone. You would have to consult your doctor, though, on what is safe to use with the Oxycodone. Have you consulted your doctor? You can learn more on the medication here: It is also available in a time released version, called Opana ER. ## an there be a reaction if I take 30 mg morphine sulfate and have a few drinks

In my opinion Opana (OXYMORPHONE), is a much better drug than MSCONTIN. It works much more efficiently and is much, much stronger than MSCONTIN. I live with chronic pain MSCONTIN does nothing for it. My mother who is 88 said she rather take percocett. She had double knee replacement yrs ago which resulted in a failed surgery, I have a collaspe lumbar, so I do know what I'm talking about when it comes to pain medication. They should take mscontin out of the gold standard part, put it with the silver. ## Both the Oxymorphone in the Opana and the Oxycodone in the Percocet are known to be stronger and more potent than Morphine, so it makes sense that they may help some people more than Morphine does. However, what works well for any given person can differ, so that does have to be taken...

I was in a severe accident in 2006 that caused many spinal fractures, herniated disks, and severe damage to my right knee. I've been seeing a pain management doctor who has prescribed me Opana 40 & 20mg. ER's to be taken every 12 hours. He also prescribes me Mobic for joint pain. The Opana does help with my spinal injuries, but doesn't seem to help my knee pain at all. The Mobic isn't working either. Should the Opana be helping me with my knee pain at all? I have been prescribed just about all of the available opiate medications including; oxycontin, methadone, the Duragesic fentynil patch, morphine, and nothing seems to be working. Is there anything available that would help my knee pain short of knee replacement surgery? Any information would be greatly appreciated...
