Blood pressure (BP), sometimes referred to as arterial blood pressure, is the pressure exerted by circulating blood upon the walls of blood vessels, and is one of the principal vital signs. When used without further specification, "blood pressure" usually refers to the arterial pressure of the systemic circulation. During each heartbeat, blood pressure varies between a maximum (systolic) and a minimum (diastolic) pressure.[1] The blood pressure in the circulation is principally due to the pum...

I am taking benicar along with atenalol for high blood pressure. Why do I need to take both. Can I just take one. I am trying to reduce my dependency on drugs ## Hello, Elanda! How are you? How high is your blood pressure? That is what the answer is dependent on. If it was very high, then multiple medications are quite often used to help lower it as fast as is safely possible and, once blood pressure is back under control, medications can be removed, or dosages lowered, as appropriate. Do you also watch what you eat to maintain a low-fat, low-sodium diet? ## Thanks for your reply. Normally my blood pressure is around 140/ 80 range. I started with atenalol and the Benicar was added later. Not sure why. I do watch my salt intake and try to watch what I eat.

I'm taking Eslo 5 mg for 4 days to treat my hypertension, do you think it is safe to continue taking it? ## Hello, Netra! How are you? You should take it, as long as your doctor instructs you to do so. Letting hypertension continue untreated could result in stroke, congestive heart failure or death. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

how long can we use this drug for treating hypertension ## I'm no doctor, but I am aware that with any of these prescription drugs, you will have to eventually cycle off of them for roughly a week after long term use to avoid building up a tolerance. May I suggest looking into some natural alternatives that don't have side effects or a need to cycle on and off? Try checking out certain 100% pure therapeutic grade Essential Oils. I personally used to have hypertension pretty bad, with doctors always surprised to see such high numbers; but over the past year I've been using some of these oils and changed my diet substantially and have normal blood pressure. Just wanted to offer my opinion and hope it may be of use. Please post back if you have any questions or comments about t...

Just had an A Fib episode and blood pressure shot up to 187/107. When I have combination of both, I take 1 mg Clonidine tablet recommended by ER doctor. I already take metoprolol twice a day plus a Clonidine patch and Multaq twice daily for the A Fib. Taking the Clonidine tab when bp is this high has kept me out of the ER. This started at 8 pm and by 10 pm my blood pressure dropped to 134/87 and I was back in rhythm. Multaq has been a blessing, I do not feel palpitations in the chest when I have my episodes. I usually get short of breath really fast that is an indicator for me. ## Hi MeeMaw, Sorry to hear about your recent episode with A-Fib. I hope you've managed to get things under control by now. Do you know what it was that might've initially triggered the onset of this atri...

Hi, I have white coat hypertension. Has anyone on the board tried taking Lisinopril, or another ACE Inhibitor to deal with BP spikes. I have read that discontinuing it does not cause BP rebound, so it seems that it could be used for dealing with brief episodes of high BP without essential hypertension. I wanted to find out because the drug side-effects being too severe, serious and numerous make it virtually impossible to take it on a regular basis. Many thanks. ## There are many natural alternatives for blood pressure control, that in my opinion can be more effective than prescription medication if taken seriously. So no, I don't think hypertension requires any sort of medication for life as long as you're eating right, exercising daily, and living in an otherwise stress free e...

So, when hypertension is a misread diagnosis and Losartan is prescribed, fluid retention occurs. HCTZ is added to no avail then doubled. Retention continues. Before Losartan, BP avg to 160/100. After, 160/90. HCTZ added, 140/90. HCTZ doubled, 110/87. Remove Losartan and HCTZ, 130/80. A misdiagnosis can be deadly. Not understanding your med cocktail is just as deadly. Mine was a case of hyper-vigilance brought on by bad medication complex. Doctors miss this daily. I tried with 6 doctors who kept going with the hypertension conclusion. Once I stopped the bad medications, I was fine. Don't always trust a doctor to be correct. They don't always have the time to do the correct research. Do your homework. It's your body. It's your responsibility. ## Yes, it is wise to always b...

I am controlling my blood pressure very well, but is it safe to use Auroflam for lower back pain caused by arthritis? It's something like a pinched nerve. ## Arthritis and a pinched nerve are 2 very different conditions. Which one has your doctor said the pain is due to? What medication do you take for your blood pressure? If you have high blood pressure, then as warned by the NIH, you should not take any medication, unless your doctor approves. Some medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories, can cause elevated blood pressure and fluid retention.

I am 65 and have had hypertension treated sucessfully with Ibestartin 300/12.5, Amlodine 5mg and perindopril 5mg very successfully. Six weeks I had an emergency admission to hospital with incapacitating leg pain.and as a result had a microdiscectomy and forminotomy operation which was successful. As i have always monitored my BP I was concerned to see my BP increase to levels around 170/90. My doctor changed my medication to Coveram 10x10mg to counter this in place of Amlodopine and Perindopril, which I understand and agree with. Can you advise when results might be reasonably be seen with this increase in dosage. Also I take Zolpidem 5mg and as this is not always effective am considering also taking 2mg of Circadin prescribed by my doctor rather than increase Zolpidem. Is this a reason...
