Hello, I have an appointment coming up with PM Dr in a week. I am currently taking the morphine ER, 30mg twice daily, along with 4 10mg oxycodone per day as needed. .my questions are..is hydromorphone ER better vs the morphine ER in terms of pain control and how long it lasts in the body? I have very recently started to take these kinds of MEDS again and am trying to find something that works and I can afford. ..I know, good luck, right? Lol..anyway, I was also wondering if anyone out there might feel like hydromorphone is also better than oxycontin of similar strength? I know hydromorphone is way more potent than morphine, and I think I read that it is stronger than oxycontin also, but it seems to me that I have heard that the hydro does NOT last as long as the oxycontin. ..any help tha...

iS HYDROMORPHONE the same as Morphine I was just concerned about my aunt. ## No they are not the same drug. Hydromorphone is a derivative of morphine. Hydromorphone is approx. 5x more potent mg for mg than morphine, and is typically given as an alternative to morphine. This information is reference from: Because Hydromorphone is a lot stronger, I personally wouldn't treat them as being similar drugs. I hope this helps! Please post back if you have any other questions or comments to add. ## My drug panel came back for hydromorphine but I only take morphine and embeda. So why did it come back as hydromorphone? Isn't that dilaudid? ## which is better at stopping pain of a broken rib hydrmorphone or morphine? ## My drug panel came back for hydromorphine but I only take morphine and ...

I have been prescribed dilaudid for pain but I am alergic to morhpine. Am I safe or no? ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is another narcotic opiate. It's related to Morphine, but not the same. It does have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache and constipation. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Since you are allergic to Morphine, there is a chance that you may be allergic to other opiates as well, thus please watch for the signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, trouble breathing, or throat swelling. Has your doctor prescribed it and are they aware of your allergy? ## Regarding Dilaudid. I always have Dilaudid when I have surgery. I have allergic problems with Morp...

I TAKE 30MG OXYCODONE EVERY 8 HOURS AND IT NEVER LASTS. I START FEELING PAIN ABOUT 6 HOURS IN. I RAN OUT AN TOOK A 40MG MORPHINE AND IT LASTED ABOUT 10 HOURS. ## Hello, Sue! How are you? Oxycodone is actually the strongest of the ones you've mentioned. However, the formulation may come into play. Were they all regular release or were some of them time released? ## I have been taking hydrocodone 10/ acetaminophen 325 every 6 hours for 4 years and now I am being switch to morphine SO4 30MG SA TAB three times a day It doesn’t seem to be working as good for me as the hydrocodone has in the past. How many 4mg hydromorphone do I have to take to match what I was taking (morphine 60mg every 8hrs plus 15mg every 4hrs)? ## The truth is there really are no precise equivalencies between different pain medications. Trial and error is the only way to find a dosage of remotely similar efficacy for your unique body chemistry, tolerance and level of pain. The presence of various binders and fillers also complicate matters from tablet to tablet, in that they may affect bioavailability or how well your body absorbs the active ingredient(s) that these excipients are mixed with. The half-life of each respective drug should also be taken into consideration... Having said this, it's probably best that you work closely with a pain management specialist to determine what works and what doesn...

I was recently hospitalized and was given dilauted and morphine for 8 days. I was then sent home. I am now suffering from abdominal pain and cramping 4 days later. I did experience abdominal pain while in the hospital. Is this related to the morphine and how long will it last? ## Dilaudid contains Hydromorphone, so it is a narcotic, just like the Morphine, so it could also be causing some of the problem. I can't say with certainty, but it could be some mild withdrawal symptoms, which can happen with narcotics, however, you were only on them for a little over a week, so it really shouldn't late more than a few days. If it continues or gets worse, please make sure to contact your doctor. Are there any other questions? ## Thanks for the info. I will definitely see my physician if t...

Is hydromorphone and fentanyl buccal soluble film(bema) available in India? If not, is there any chance of these drugs coming to India in near future? Is dicetylmorphine available in India as wrriten in the DD-7 number prescription form for dispencing morphine sulphate, fentanyl transdermal patches and injections , pethidine injections? ## Need hydromorphone 16 mg. ## Rajinderr, since we are based in the U.S. I don't have a complete list of what is available in India and, when trying to research the specific ones you've mentioned, the information I am finding is conflicting. Have you tried asking a doctor or pharmacist? They would be better equipped to know such details on what can be prescribed there. And Vette, I'm sorry, but this site doesn't manufacture, prescribe, n...

Is morphine stronger than hydromorph contin. I use to take 100 mg of morphine, I've since had 6 major back operations and now have titanium rods from my pelvis up to my occupant so I no longer am able to move my head at all for it's fused to my body. I'm taking 24mg of hydromorph contin. It doesn't work for me and I was wondering if just morphine is stronger for pain? ## Hello, Terry! How are you? No, the Hydromorphone is much stronger. You only need 1.5mgs of it for every 10mgs of Morphine. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you consulted your doctor? Are you on any other medications, or just this one?

A morphine pump has been removed and now the hydro morphine has replaced it. Not many doctors prescribe Hydro Morphine and we have moved to the state of Georgia from California which is where the prescription originated. What can be prescribed in its place? Or are there any ways to find out who is in the network to prescribe hydro morphine. ## Hi Bob, Did you mean to say "Hydromorphone" (Dilaudid)? There is no such drug as Hydro Morphine, to my knowledge. In any case, there are many different alternative prescription and non-prescription options for pain management/relief. Although, if you're looking for a pain management doctor to prescribe Dilaudid, I think the links below may be helpful in so far locating PM Doctors within your general area: {link removed because site no ...

I was wondering what milligram the little orange morphine pill with D on one side and 2 on the other, is???..... ## Hi D, Are you certain that this is a Morphine pill? Only asking because I came across another thread (linked above) with a similar pill description, stating that it is 2mgs of Hydromorphone; please correct me if I'm wrong here. In any case, the number imprint on the pill is generally indicative of the dosage of the drug. This tends to hold true in most cases, but if your pill is not Hydromorphone, then I haven't found any specific details "confirming" the dosage. I hope this helps!

blue round pill with a 2 on one side and a 3 on the other. is this a generic morphine? ## No, no morphine listed in the US prescription drugs databases with that code on it. Prescription drugs generally have both letters and numbers on them since regulations require that they can be identified by them, so you know who the manufacturer is, the dose and the drug. My guess is that if all that is on there is a 2 on one side and a 3 on the other, it is probably an over the counter item. Remember, the color of a tablet doesn't meany anything. Just because they are some blue morphine pills, not all blue pills are morphine.

Hi I'm Honey and I'm new here, I was taking 10mg of oxycodon my doc changed it and now taking Hydromorphone 2mg with a p on other side. This med is not working for me at all!! Also take morphine 30mg.do you think my doc would change it back to oxy and maybe increase mg or give it 4 times a day instead of 3 times day? I'm in so much pain. Thx in advance ## Hello, Honey! How are you? It would require 3.75mgs per dose of Hydromorphone to equal each 10mgs of the Oxycodone that you were taking, which likely explains why the 2mg dosage isn't working for you. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, no one can spe...

white round pms 8 ## This is not Morphine, this tablet contains 8mgs of Hydromorphone, a generic for Dilaudid. This is a very potent narcotic pain reliever. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

cronic pain ## Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) is essentially liquid heroin and should be only prescribed for extreme cases of pain, due to the fact that it is highly ADDICTIVE. ## Dilaudid is Hydromophone, it is no longer available in just a liquid, it comes in pills now as well, instant release. It is a very strong narcotic, yes, highly addictive but no more so than any other narcotics. Also for chronic pain users, you are more apt to become dependent on the meds than you are to become addicted to them. I keep reading that fentanyl is 80% stronger then morphine. However, most people are talking 100 mcg fentanyl patch over 72 hours, so now I wonder what this means? How much morphine totals fentanyl in 3 days? Confusing eh, anybody know?? I am on the 100 mcg patch every 3 days and have 4 mgs hydromorphone every day for back up pain. I don’t like the hydromorphone, I believe it’s making me constipated and I have to take meds for constipation now. I've been on this for over a year. I have stage 4 rectal cancer. I like the fentanyl and it works, but it’s weak when spread out over 3 days. I'm thinking of asking my doctor to let me take one type of opioid instead of two high doses. I’ll leave it up to the doctor but I’ll suggest maybe giving me 75 mcg eve...
