I was recently hospitalized and was given dilauted and morphine for 8 days. I was then sent home. I am now suffering from abdominal pain and cramping 4 days later. I did experience abdominal pain while in the hospital. Is this related to the morphine and how long will it last? ## Dilaudid contains Hydromorphone, so it is a narcotic, just like the Morphine, so it could also be causing some of the problem. I can't say with certainty, but it could be some mild withdrawal symptoms, which can happen with narcotics, however, you were only on them for a little over a week, so it really shouldn't late more than a few days. If it continues or gets worse, please make sure to contact your doctor. Are there any other questions? ## Thanks for the info. I will definitely see my physician if t...

is opana a mixture of morphine and oxycodone? i know that it is oxymorphone, but i don't know what that is and i am allergic to morphine. ## No, Oxymorphone is a complete, separate compound, it does not contain Morphine or Oxycodone. However, it is distantly related to Morphine and there is a warning about it being used in patients who are sensitive to or allergic to Morphine. Of all the narcotic pain meds, is Morphine the LEAST likely to affect the liver in a negative way? If not Morphine then which of this type and class of drug is the least toxic to the liver? ## Hello, Keikeeo! How are you? Most medications are processed through the liver and carry the same risks of harm, as long as they don't contain Acetaminophen. Thus, along with Morphine, other options can include Oxycodone, Hydrocodone and Hydromorphone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I am currently prescribed fentanyl 25mcg and hydromorphone 4mg aka dilaudid. Ever since I was switched to dilaudid I have been having severe BT pain and some not so good side effects like bladder issues that I informed my PCP and after seeing them 4 times they were telling me I might have to see a Urologist...smh here it's a side effect of the hydromorphone... anyways I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between oxy ir or morphine ir to replace the dilaudid and what mg I should be switched to. ## Hello, Jess! I have a pian pump inserted in my back and they are going to change from morphine to delaudid to keep from scar tissue building up on the nipple of the insert. How does this sound to you? ## Yes, it is completely normal for them to switch the medication used, periodically, to prevent issues with the pump and also to help prevent your building too much of a tolerance to any one medication, which could cause it to stop working for you. Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, it is a very potent narcotic and may cause side effects similar to the Morphine, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation and drowsiness. I am wondering if dilaudid is stronger than oxycontin? morphine? norco? norco 10/325? liquid 40ml norco 2.5mg/5ml? ## Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. That said, it is a potent narcotic, and what it is stronger than depends on the dosage of each. It is not stronger than most dosages of Oxycodone, but is stronger than some. Oxycodone is the strongest product on the market approved to treat pain. Whether it is stronger than the others also depends on what dose of the Dilaudid you're asking about. Was this prescribed for you? You can read more about it here: ## Actually, Opana (oxymorphone) is about 2 to 3 times stronger than oxycodone, or contin. I went from a oxy 30mg ER to an Opana 10mg and have had the best results as far as pain relief. ## can you list the le...

The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. There are quite a few, such as Codeine, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone, and Hydromorphone, and I know that's really not all. What type of tech are you wanting to become, a pharmacy tech?

However, such side effects should start to taper off as her body adjusts to the medication, which usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks. She may also experience drowsiness, nausea and constipation. You can learn more about the active ingredient here: Another analgesic she may want to consider is the Fentanyl patch, its time released, so it works over a period of 3 days.
