I was taking the fentanyl patch for a month at 50mcg every 72 hours. Then pain management dropped the ball and I was not able to get the patch again. My body feels achy, numb and I feel horrible!! i have half of a 50mg fentanyl patch and im wondering if you can take it? ## It is not safe to do this with any medication, they should only be used in the manner that they are intended to be used. There is a very high risk of overdose, with Fentanyl, because it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine and even the non-gel patches are time released, so abusing it could result in your getting too much, at once. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Is it ok to use Fentanyl (non-gel) patches, even though they're expired? I have taken the gel patches before and it worked better than I hoped, just took a little bit longer to kick in compared to dilaudid. I just used a 25 mcg. sticky non-gel patch, that expired in 2011. Can I expect it to work better soon?

I have been on Methadone for about 5 years. I had an addiction to oxycontin and the went on methadone to quit. My highest dose was 120mg and I have managed to wean myself down to 17mg. The problem is I am having a really hard time getting off of it. Doing some reading I have learned that methadone is one of the worst for trying to quit. I have a perscription for 12mcg/h fentanyl for back pain which I havent been using but was thinking about quiting the methadone and using the patch instead so when I eventually drop it the withdraws won't be as bad. I have been seeing a pain management specialist for about a year. We have tried just about every extended release along with breakthrough opioid oral medications, always inching from lowest dose to higher. But I also have severe chronic digestive problems which makes it very difficult to take oral medications . So my doctor put me on the fentanyl patch, but on day three I developed such a migraine headache I thought my eye would pop out. My ex-husband has had 5 lower back surgeries and has permanent nerve damage. He also has rods and pins in his back that one screw pushed on his spinal cord and had to be removed-lots of scar tissue. I was on 180 mg of ms contin after tapering down from 300mg for 16 yrs. I wanted to try fentanyl patches so my Dr gave me 75 mcg patch. Wow I had absolutely no pain .....but after 55-60 hrs I would wake up sweats flip popping all over totally withdrawals then I talked to a friend, she's on 50 mcg. I keep reading that fentanyl is 80% stronger then morphine. However, most people are talking 100 mcg fentanyl patch over 72 hours, so now I wonder what this means? Will a 75 mcg/hr fentanyl patch help with dilaudid withdrawal? ## Tramadol 50 mg x 2 tablets is the only thing that works for me when I can't find a pharmacy to fill my Dilaudid. I have heard it helps with Oxy and other pain reliever withdrawals. The stupid Commonwealth of Kentucky has outlawed Tramadol and Lyrica is highly regulated because it helps with withdrawals. I been on all types of opiates and in some cases really high doses. now I'm back down to a reasonable dose of pain meds long acting oxy an 15mg 4aday Roxy ir for breakthrough. I'm supposed to have it in my system around the clock so the oxy 12hr med is not working at all it seems to me. I've been on a 25mcg and 12mcg Fentanyl patch now for about 6 mos. I change them every 48 hours. I get 15 of each per month. Lately I've not been getting the pain relief I did in the beginning. I would like to titrate up to the 50mcg patch. I think that would make a big difference, but I don't want my pain dr. to think I'm abusing it. Is is too soon to move to a higher dose? I mean is there a general time period for titrating up? I am new to the patch i have been on the 25 mcg for a month and two weeks now the first brqnd i used was mallickrodt and i thought they didnt work so i told my doc and she suggested trying a different pharmacy, so i did and they gave me par and sandoz. Iv been on the Fentanyl patch 50 mg for about two yrs, use to be be on 150 mg, but didn't want to be on such a high dose , also on percoset10-325. My question is , I wear the patch on my upper arm, sometimes the sight itches, well about 20 mins ago ,the site itched and I guessed I itched it to hard, before I knew it the liquid was all over my arm and hands.
