Does Citalopram For Sleep

I've been on Citalopram for 6 weeks, one of the major issues I have been having over the past 2 weeks is waking up 2-3 time's a night. I can fall asleep easily but its the waking up. Interesting that this sleep disturbance side effect has just started 2 weeks ago, and increasing. It's becoming problematic to my daily life. I'm seeing my Dr this week, and considering whether to go off them. Aside from this side effect and sexual dysfunction, jittering during the day, they seem to be definitely taking the edge of depression. Any other shared experiences or information would be appreciated ## HI, Madison! Sorry about the problem that you're having. For about 3 to 4 weeks now I have been having trouble sleeping. I wake in the middle of the night and my mind starts going and I have terrible trouble shutting back down. My mind says, "what time is it? I need to get back to sleep", "I have to work in the morning" and on and on. Consumed with the thought of sleep I sometimes fail to go back to sleep. sometimes I do but it takes 2 hours. I have had this issue since I was a child but it only manifests itself every 6 months to a year or maybe even less. But lately its been, like I said, a couple of months with this. So I became desperate for relief. I went to my GP and she prescribed citalopram. Her diagnosis was anxiety. I suppose waking in the middle of the night and having a racing mind is a sort of anxiety thing. Unders...

I was on 40mg of Citalopram and slowly over a few months I cut down to 10mg. On Christmas eve I cut it out totally, the main effect of this was sleeping terribly which I know is normal and why I waited until I had time off work. Now I'm back at work I feel very anxious and had diarreah yesterday quite a bit in work. Now I'm worries my ibs-D is making a comeback, or is it just settling back to work anxiety. Not sure if taking propranolol as and when would help with this. Does anyone have any advice? Need to wait around 4 weeks for an appt at my docs surgery so thought be worth trying forums 1st.

8 weeks ago my mom was given 10mg citalopram for anxiety. she did not feel any side effect in the first week but afterwards starting having insomnia, upset stomach, tremor, agitation, etc. The psychiatrist increased teh dose to 20 mg daily but this did not solve anything. Today, in the 8th week she could not sleep at all in the night (she felt fresh when going sleeping even she was working the whole day) and in the morning she is feeling needles in the whole body, she is shaking + many other bad feelings. Can be that the dose is too high for her age (74 years old)?. I am afraid not to be the symptoms of a high level of serotonin. ## Those can all be side effects of Celexa. Citalopram hbr 10 mg was prescribed to me because of stress and to help me sleep. Is that what this drug is for? Help ! Thanks Bob ## Citalopram is an SSRi antidepressant, it may cause some drowsiness as a side effect and, as to the stress, it does help some people with some anxiety and similar issues. Basically, your doctor is allowed to prescribe a medication according to their knowledge and experience of what they've found it will help with. Learn more Citalopram details here. When they do that, it's called off-label use and, in such cases, the best thing you can do is to try it and see if it helps you. If it doesn't, then let your doctor know. I have been taking citalopram10mg for 4days now along with 400mg tramadol (100mg 4xaday) and 6mg diazepam. My depression has lifted however my anxiety has increased and I can't sleep. I'm due to increase my citalopram to 20mg in 3 days but not sure if this is a good idea. I would appreciate any feed back from people who have been on this combination of tablets for side affects and how long they last. ## I haven't taken these medications, but I can tell you that many have reported experiencing anxiety, when they first start taking it. Learn more Citalopram details here. Such side effects can last anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks, whenever you up the dosage, but they should start to taper off in severity after that, once you're on a steady dosage and your body gets used to new m...

Hello, I have been having episodes of what my GP said were anxiety attacks, which I thought was weird in itself since I had no major incidences in my life that may have triggered it. Anyway I have been on citalopram for 3 weeks now and I feel emotionally limited, scared to sleep, lack of appetite, low libido and generally scared of life. I really do not like them. Should I stop taking them and is this normal? ## Hello, Faz! How are you? Usually, right around 3 to 4 weeks is where the side effects hit their peak and they should taper off and stop entirely soon after that. At that point, you'll be able to tell how well it's working for you. Other possible side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, headache and weight changes. Thus, you m...

I was on Citalopram from August 2017 to June 2018. I decided to taper off of them because I didn’t like how I felt on them. I have had a pill for just over 5 weeks now. While on the medicine, I was definitely less panicked. However, I had a pretty constant feeling of being out of it, like being drugged or spaced out. I had this before I started the medicine so I was hoping it would help. The other really bad symptom I had was this weird dizziness and vertigo. I was dizzy before I started, but a few weeks in I remember I had rapid feeling in my head before bed like my head was moving. This turned into an awful vertigo sensation that hits hard when I lay down. It feels like I’m spinning or my body parts are moving or being pulled, and makes it hard to sleep sometimes. Anyway, ...

I just started taking the lowest dose of Amitriptyline (1x daily) to try to help me sleep. My concern is I've been taking Citalopram 20mg (1x daily) for over 5 years now. As soon as my terrible sleep pattern regulates I'll go off the Amitriptyline. Will taking both of these cause any adverse effects? ## Amitriptyline, the generic for Elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant. Citalopram, the generic for Celexa is an SSRI antidepressant. They can be used together, however, you may experience aggravation of the side effects, which may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and dizziness. You should also be certain to keep all doctor's appointments while taking this medication, as their monitoring is very important. Do you have any other questions? ## I am taking amitripylin 25 mg 1/...

I have been on 20mg for 3.5 years. At the time I needed it. I was uncontrollable with tears, attended counselling, but feared for myself because the counselling wasn't helping quick enough. It helped me to think clearly, walk through the rat race with my head up and made it easier for my partner to stay living in close proximity of me! I then became complacent, I tried to come off them once after about 2 years, with terrible results. My experience of citalopram: Tired all the time- started taking them b4 bed which helped with the afternoon sleepier but still meant that for 3 years I have been falling asleep where ever I am at the point I am ready (or not ready as the case may be) this could be at parties, during intercourse, watching tv, pretty much anywhere! No libido at all. I cou...

Hi, I have been on 20mg of Citalopram (Celexa) for a year and starting to come off them. I was taking 2 x 10 mg tablets a day. So I started by alternating 2x10mg one day followed by 1x10mg the next day and alternating for a few weeks. Well that was the plan, but I felt no side effects after 3 days so figured I could go down to 10mg a day. I was on 10mg a day for about 3 days and had no withdrawal symptoms, so again figured I had this tapering stuff sorted and then decided to go to 10mg every other day. Then it hit me, I felt like I had the flu... which is my main question, people talk about side effect symptoms like brain zaps and nausea, I havent had any of those. But I feel achy and lethargic and cannot sleep. But also have a really bad cough. I have never seen anyone mention a cough ...

I have been a depressive all my life, so were my parents and parents before them. Ive also always suffered from insomnia for as long as I have lived, even as a baby I have been told that I never napped and would only sleep for a few hours nightly. In my youth I saw therapists and smoked cannabis which mostly kept me in check. After the suicide of my dearest friend in our late teens things got really bad, I lost any drive to get out of bed, I never left the house, i never ate or slept, I finally found help in Zopiclone and Lorazepam, I was finally able to sleep every night and leave the house without having anxiety attacks. I went on like this for a while, doing ok, I started studying and working and fell in love, Life was good for a while, my relationship had its ups and downs and at ti...

i forgot to take my citalopram hydromide this morning and it is time to take my ambien zolpidem sleeping pill can i take together ## Taking them together is usually not advisable, because they can both cause central nervous system depression, which means lower heart rate, lower blood pressure, lower breathing rate and etc. It isn't always a serious problem, but sometimes it can be, so it is really just not worth risking it. Usually it is just recommended to resume it on your normal dosing schedule. If you have been taking it for a long time and just miss one, the chances of it making a difference are very slim, anyway. Is there anything else I can help with?
