I have been seen by the lexington va for 2 years now with constant back pain. I've had shots and therapy for the pain. The only thin my PCM is giving me is tramadol which I have been on for 2 years and is just not doing anything to help. ## Due to the new regulations that have been put in place, if you're looking outside of the VA, you'll need to see a pain management specialist to possibly have anything stronger prescribed. Have you tried asking your doctor to refer you to someone that can help more? Most VA's have their own pain management clinics. Have you tried that, yet? ## There are no new regulations stating only pain management drs can treat chronic pain. Although many drs prefer not to treat it. You can try another primary care dr or you can ask your primary car...

suffering from cronic headaches and neck pain due to a variety of events ## looking for a new dr. who will be willing to give me the same meds as I was taking before I moved here, they are narcotics that I take on a regualar basis for headaches and neck pain, hydro codone 10 to be exact, where I came from it is tough to find a dr. who will help you, how will I start over in Portland to find a helpful Dr.? ## I'd suggest looking for someone that specializes in pain management and making sure that they get a full copy of your medical records from your prior doctor. In many cases, if you go in asking for a specific medication they will see it as drug seeking behavior, but they can see what works for you as documented by other physicians, they are more likely to prescribe accordingly. I live in Vienna, VA in Fairfax County and need to find a doctor who is willing to prescribe Vicodin (and possibly spine infusions) for chronic back pain. Does anyone know of doctors in this area who might help me? ## National Spine and Pain Centers should have a clinic in your area. They do it all and one of my original PM specialists in Virginia is part of their corporation so I know they are humane. Good luck to you! ## I desperately need to find a doctor in the Northern Virginia area who prescribes oxycontin 40mg extended release 3 times a day and oxycontin immediate release 20mg every 4 hours. He will write Roxy's or whatever else. He will put you on an ER opiate and then the Roxys. He is a concierge doctor though. $125 a month plus insurance copays every two months. But if I were you and you have all the documentation...just find a Pain Management doctor in your area. I didn't even know doctor's wrote roxy's f...

Naturally I have a high tolerance for pain meds and a low tolerance for alcohol. Going on 9 months no alcohol as a health choice. I went and had a MRI done a week ago and still waiting for the results. Ibuprofen 800 mg - no way am I taking that much crap every day. My doc said she doesn't prescribe pain meds. Funny... So I'm here, I'll have the updated scan on my back and hope to know a good doctor that can help me with a better value of life. I would just rather take a little bit of something that works than hundreds of milligrams Tylenol. Isn't Ibuprofen 800mg a pain killer? ## Pain meds addictive as we know. Lots of people that live with pain. From experience don't get regular refills of opiate, you'll pay the piper eventually...that day will come. That's ...

I am seeking help in finding a good physician, either pain specialty, internal or general medicine, for my husband. I have searched online for hours, day after day and just cannot make heads or tails with all of the controversy about opioids. We need help. My husband and I moved here (Houston suburb) this year, leaving behind his PCP of 8 yrs. She handled every issue including intractable pain stemming from back surgery. Being diabetic with nerve pain and hypertensive, well around we go... Pain causes his BP to rise which in turn causes more problems. He has been under VA care but the process is ridiculously slow. I am becoming concerned over his quality of life as the change is significant. We have records, imaging, medication history, etc. Any and all help would be so appreciated.

I have been in Pain management since 2004 in California and just Moved out there to muskogee Oklahoma... unfortunately there are NO doctors here willing to treat my pain i was on a regiment of 80mg Oxycontin 2X daily 10/325mg Norcos every 4 hours and 4mg IV dilaudid as needed for breakthrough pain... i am in search of a doctor out this way who is actualluy willing to perscribe these meds... thanks ## Well, the first question I have is, how are you checking with the doctors about getting help? The reason I am asking is because if you're calling various doctor's offices and asking if they'll treat you and prescribe specific medications, then you will pretty much always get told no. When someone does that, doctor's and their staff are taught to see it as drug seeking behavi...

My husband has lumbago (lower back pain) and I gets pretty bad where it keeps him up at night. He had Medicaid however he's switched to a few doctors and none are willing to give him anything that works for him for pain these days 2 years ago he was on a combination of Valium and norco but since that doctor was no longer available the next doctor would t prescribe them. And since then it has been really hard to get pain meds with all the crack downs on it. He takes naproxen and flex aril and the naproxen doesn't touch the pain Tylenol works sometimes when he's not feeling too bad and ibprophin is a joke. He has asked to stop flexaril when he takes it it upsets his stomach something terrible so today the doctor took him off of it and didn't replace it. He is interested in...

Hi, I have had chronic back pain for years and have seen various doctors for the problem. Most have prescribed either tramadol or hydrocodone along with muscles relaxers sometimes. I've also tried a round of steroids (prednisone) as well as non pharmaceutical options like physical therapy, stretching and light exercise when I can tolerate it in an effort to strengthen my core. Most of these treatments have helped to some degree but the pain inevitably returns (and really many of the medications have only slightly dulled the pain but I still have had difficulty getting through the day even when taking them. So my question is, are there any sympathetic docs in the Austin area (or north like Cedar Park or Leander) who are willing to prescribe stronger pain meds and muscle relaxers anym...

I HAVE ISSUES LUPUS ARTHRITUS BRAIN TUMOR AND NOW WAITING FOR ONCOLOGY DR TO SEE IF I HAVE CANCER MY DOCTOR WOULD NOT CALL ME BACK I WAS ON VACATION FAR AWAY LOST ALL MEDS NEEDED AT LEAST STOMACH PILLS THEY WOULD NOT CALL ME BACK (MOVED HERE ABOUT 1 YR AGO)TERXE ## Hi Kay, Unfortunately, no one can know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not solely on someone else's previous appointment. Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a new doctor. Make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you. Then, the best approach is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will...

I need a pain management doctor in the northern virginia or central virginia area that accepts medicaid and isn't scared to prescribe the necessary medications for chronic pain. ## I'm sorry, but there are no listings of doctors according to what insurance they accept, or what they will or will not prescribe that I can refer to for you. All doctors have to be very careful about what they prescribe, due to severe government regulations. If they don't, they could lose their license to practice medicine and most doctors have far too much time and money invested in their careers to be willing to do that. Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly that could refer you to someone? If so, that would most likely be the easiest way to get the help you need.

I'm willing to travel the 60 miles in any direction as long as the doctor is relatively easy to deal with. I suffer from. Back pain. ## Hi Larry, In regards to find a pain doctor I have listed below a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results: {link removed because site no longer exists} You can give this other site a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another: wellness.com/find/pain%20management%20specialist Many of the results you find (in one or both of the links above) also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd suggest calling up a number of them to see if they prescribe the type of medication you are seeking to manage your pain...
