I have been taking 120 mg of methadone for approximately 5 years. My husbands job transferred us from Florida to Louisiana where I found a pretty good pain doc. He is now running scared and wants to take me off of methadone. Methadone has given me a good quality of life; I am able to work and be a productive member of society. I am 56 years old and am disabled due to a work-related injury therefore I am rich by no means! I have heard that they are considering taking methadone off the market due to too many overdose issues, plus people on it, get a prescription filled and sell it for profit making it even harder for folks like me who take my meds honestly as prescribed. Go to their website and look it up. ## BL is correct, the rules are the same. If he was taking it for addiction/maintenance treatment, then regular doctors have never been able to prescribe it for that. I've been on methadone for almost 13 yrs due to a car accident when I was a teenager that left me disabled and with chronic pain. My current Dr. Received a letter from the Medical Board ( which he let me see) explaining that in order to keep prescribing methadone that he will need to get a license that will allow him too continue to perscribe this. My dr said it's became a huge hassle and that because of other patients "dr shopping" he just can't do it anymore. I've been with him for over 6 yrs! Struggled with severe migraines since childhood. Double Visio, nausea, was on imitrex, torodol, topaz, too many yo name. Finally found relief with generic hydro of one, but then decided to manage everything by switching to suboxone. Since the pain factor is not effected one way or another, a friend had mentioned her chronic pain controlled by methadone. I have Chronic IBS and acute Chrons disease. I have been taking Vicodin to help control the bouts of diarrhea and severe abdominal pain. From 2009 thru 2012 I was prescribed methadone and roxicodone for chronic back pain. Which was very effective. The clinic closed down and I've found it difficult to find a doctor who will prescribe methadone. My current doc gives me five 30mg roxicodone a day but I don't get the pain relief I had when taking methadone and the occasional roxicodone for breakthrough pain.
