Doctors That Prescribe Tramadol

My doctor has just retired and I have been on Tramadol for many years and find it very hard when I stop taking it. I have learned that many Doctors will not prescribe Tramadol and need help finding someone in my area that will. ## Hello, Wendy! How are you? Due to the new regulations that were put in place last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. A general practice doctor won't be able to prescribe it. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. The easiest thing to do may be to find yourself a new PCP and then have them refer you to someone. What is your general location? Th...

I have no insurance and want to find a doctor that can help with my pain. Since I have no insurance I want to make sure the doctor I go to can help before paying out of pocket. I've been on tramadol and 3 different anti inflammatorys and none have helped at all. ## I have chronic pain and have a lot of trouble getting anyone to prescribe my pain medication for me in Abilene, tx. Any suggestions?

I have a bulging disc and go to Kelsey Seybold as part of my insurance plan. I took ultram or ultracet for 18 years whenever I needed pain medicine cause I couldn't function on Vicodin or the other hydrocodones. I never had a problem with it, I took it as needed and that was that. Now that they made it a narcotic because some people did get addicted to it???? The doctors at Kelsey Seybold won't prescribe it and treat me as if I'm asking for OxyContin or something. I'm very upset at this! ## Cindy, I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. THIS IS THE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES OF RESCHEDULING certain drugs with abuse potential. YOU HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO BE UPSET. I'm uncertain of this process for tramadol was a result of our countries opiate epidemic or more of a safety...

i have a back injury i have been on norco for almost a year my doctor says a new ca. law says she has to bring me off norco and replace it with tramadol that soon no will be able to get norco unless you just had surgery is this true ## Yes, from what I've learned that is basically correct. General practitioners won't be able to prescribe such medications, except in emergency cases after recent injury or surgery. Learn more pain management details here. If someone suffers from a condition that causes long-term chronic pain, they have to see a pain management specialist for treatment to continue having such medications prescribed. A lot of it has to do with the abuse of the medications by many people, the fact that many doctors aren't specially trained to treat people that in ...

I have been suffering from a failed patella replacement for 12 years. Tramadol sometimes helps, but the risks for stroke are too high. I was being treated by a doctor in RI but he lost his license. Is there anyone in Boston area who can prescribe vicodin 10/325 legally? ## Well, any doctor can prescribe it legally. The main issues are just why its being prescribed, how much, for how long and etc. Learn more Vicodin details here. With the new regulations and issues on the east coast regarding doctors prescribing improperly and over prescribing, your best bet is going to be with a pain management specialist. Do you have a general practitioner that you see regularly who may be able to refer you somewhere? ## Risk for stroke? That's not an elevated risk with tramadol; no more than any o...

I need help finding a doctor in my area who will prescribe pain medication. I live in lower bucks county in Bensalem. I've been searching on and off for 2 yrs but now my pain is just way over the top. They have me taking Tramadol 8 a day which at this point is an absolute joke. My family doctors is NO help whatsoever and won't even write my anxiety meds which I have been off for 2 yrs as well now. I have done and seen everything the doctor has asked for 2 yrs and still at the same point if not worse now since the only things given for pain and anxiety are the Tramadol and vistiral (not sure of spelling) again they are both a joke. I just had it out with my family doctor yesterday when I had a visit for blood work and follow up for meds. He basically said I can't do anything ...

I have been seen by the lexington va for 2 years now with constant back pain. I've had shots and therapy for the pain. The only thin my PCM is giving me is tramadol which I have been on for 2 years and is just not doing anything to help. ## Due to the new regulations that have been put in place, if you're looking outside of the VA, you'll need to see a pain management specialist to possibly have anything stronger prescribed. Have you tried asking your doctor to refer you to someone that can help more? Most VA's have their own pain management clinics. Have you tried that, yet? ## There are no new regulations stating only pain management drs can treat chronic pain. Although many drs prefer not to treat it. You can try another primary care dr or you can ask your primary car...

Hello. Even before Tramadol became a controlled substance I have found doctors are more reluctant to prescribe it and if they do are doling it out as if they were prescribing H. I know it is not for everyone, but it is my pain drug of choice and I've used it responsibly for years. I live in the East Valley region of Metro Phoenix in Arizona and I am looking for a decent doctor who won't be a hassle in terms of prescribing this medication or calling in refills to the pharmacy in between visits. If anyone could hook me up with a doctor who isn't afraid to prescribe like the old days, I'd gratefully appreciate it. ## II don't know why any Drs are afraid to prescribe it. It did fly under the radar for years as far as pain killers go and it was a lot easier to get prescri...

I just moved to San Miguel de Allende Gto Mexico... Will I still need to have a doctor prescribe Tramadol or does it not require a prescription in this Country? I had 11 knee surgeries in the last 3 years. Good news, I'm not in a wheelchair anymore!! Thanks so much. ## @Pattykakes, As far as I know from reading other's reviews, Tramadol allegedly does not require a prescription in the event that you obtain it directly in Mexico "in-person". I think the only problem lies with those who try to go on the internet and search for it that way - since they are still in the US and therefore have to abide by US laws and regulations. However, I speculate that even if it does require a prescription in Mexico, there's widespread rumor that their doctors tend to be more lenient w...

After years of being treated with a progressively chronic debilitating cough I was prescribed Tramadol 50mg morning and night. Within hours the couph had gone totally. I have been on Tramadol 3 years I have had countless Chest xrays and blood tests all come back normail. I have tried numerous times to come off the Tramadol under doctors supervision by 1x50mg a week if I get to reducing 2 per week chroic cough resumes at its worse. Do you have any suggestions I would like to come off Tramadol but the return of the cough is not something I want either. Thankyou ## That can be a normal side effect of stopping the medication, or tapering off of it. The FDA also warns that you may experience dizziness, rebound pain, headache, fever, and chills. However, such symptoms should only last about a...

I am angry at myself for being in this position. I became dependant on tram a year or so ago. It was the only thing that helped with severe monthly pain, if you know what I'm saying and my doc prescribed it to me like it was tylenol. My first script was 270 50 mg tabs! I just recently relocated to FL and no longer have insurance, know nothing about online buying, sketchy anyway... i don't know what to do or how to function during the living hell of withdrawals! Any support out there is welcome :). Thanks ## Since you are suffering badly and going through the hell of withdrawals, the best and fastest option you have is to sacrify some money and go to a doctor...he/she will give you a prescription....because the doctors know that if you use Tramadol you must not stop suddenly, and...

i take dilaudid and tramadol and have been for a least 3 years, i take several 8mg dilaudid at a time. i reember demerol working nicely while i was in the hospital....how do i gwt me dr to give me that? ## Hi shawn, Some advice I can give you is to not specifically ask for any 'specific medication' when you see a doctor. Just make sure to transfer or take a copy of all your medical records with you if your doctor doesn't already have them. Then, the best approach in my opinion, is to discuss up front and honestly what has or hasn't worked for you in the past. Most doctors will then take it under consideration and hear you out if you approach them in this manner, with what you believe to be most helpful to your condition. I think a lot of patients don't get the medica...

I am prescribed tramadol every 4-6 hours, 1 tablet or as needed. I do take what I am asked plus an extra if needed because of my back pain. I'm currently on my last 3 and am prescribed 60. Is this a 30 day supply and am I able to get refilled? I just need to know so I can know whether or not to ask for another refill or not if I should wait until the 9th of next month or not? ## Glittergirl, First of all your tramadol is a prn order, meaning to be taken ONLY WHEN NEEDED, NOT AROUND THE CLOCK DOSING. Your labeling instructions are ambiguous. A BID order of 60 should last 30 days. This rx like others can be habit forming so doctors prescribe them with a degree of caution. You should only take direction from your prescribing professional or a RPh if unavailable. This class of drugs has...

Additionally, due to the new directives set forth by the DEA last year, if you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist. Hi, I have had chronic back pain for years and have seen various doctors for the problem. Most have prescribed either tramadol or hydrocodone along with muscles relaxers sometimes. I've also tried a round of steroids (prednisone) as well as non pharmaceutical options like physical therapy, stretching and light exercise when I can tolerate it in an effort to strengthen my core. Most of these treatments have helped to some degree but the pain inevitably returns (and really many of the medications have only slightly dulled the pain but I still have had difficulty getting through the day even when taking them. So my question is, are there any sympathetic docs in the Austin area (or north like Cedar Park or Leander) who are willing to prescribe stronger pain meds and muscle relaxers anym...

I had been on hydrocodone for approximately 13 years until I had to change doctors. My new doctor didn't believe in pain medication. I have been off hydrocodone for nearly 3 years and my pain is getting really bad again. One doctor prescribed Tramadol but now that is a narcotic and the doctor will not prescribe it anymore. I suffer from fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, scoliosis, myofacial pain and I can't believe none of my doctors will prescribe me something for pain. The pain is constant and I frequently have headaches and sleep problems every night. I seriously need something for the pain--ibuprofen doesn't due a damn thing. I live in Upstate NY and would love assistance with this. ## Go back to your former doctor. Doctors now are not willing to continue to prescrib meds th...

I want to start by saying I received a liver transplant in Jan. Of 2008. My liver disease was due to fatty liver disease which led into cirrhosis of the liver and was not alcohol or drug related. Well after transplant and some time out and doing very well the nerve endings that were cut during transplant started to grow back and I honestly have never endured a pain like that and after several discussions with my doctors they prescribed TramadolHcl 50 mg tablets at a dosage rate of 2 pills every 6-8 hours. My family doctor felt this was the safest route since it was not a narcotic drug. To make a long story short I am deeply concern as it seems now this drug has become addicting and I am very worried and do not want to destroy my new liver and my second chance at LIFE that I was given.
