Do You Chew The Pills

the pharmacist wasn't very clear on the directions and this is a very large pill so I didn't know if my son could swallow this or not or if I could break it in half it is pink and has rx 763 on the front of it. ## Hi Teresa, The pill which you have is the 875 mg dose of Amoxicillin manufactured by Ranbaxy. You should be able to break it in half at the score mark and have your son swallow each half of the pill seperately. As far as the dosage goes, I would be sure to follow the instructions on the prescription label - So if your son is supposed to take the 875 mg each time, then please ensure he is getting the full dose (even if you're breaking the pill in half). Hope this helps. If you have any other questions or information to add please post back.

I chewed ibuprofen and it made my mouth burn and now my stomach isnt feeling very good. Was it bad for me to chew it instead of swallow it? ## Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory and these are well known to cause irritation and/or damage to the delicate lining of the mouth, stomach and esophagus. That's why they are distributed as coated tablets and the instructions usually direct you to swallow them whole and not to crush or chew them. So, yes, it was a bad idea. Even with the coating on them, NSAIDs can cause or irritate conditions, such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis. Are there any other questions? ## I chew it and i didn't hurt me, is it different for other people or something? my headaches go away faster... ## i can't swallow pills, so, i chewed up a...

I have some Metformin Hcl 1000mg tablets. My dose has been reduced to 500 mg. Is it safe to cut the 1000mg ones in half? ## It is safe, as long as you weren't taking a time released formulation. This would be denoted on your prescription label by an abbreviation such as ER, XR or SR. There will usually also be a warning on them from the pharmacy that says do not crush or chew, swallow tablet whole. Metformin is an oral antidiabetic medication and may cause side effects, such as: nausea, headache, hypoglycemia and flatulence. More details: Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have a question. I split my metformin er in two and took it because I didn't know I wasn't supposed to. Will I be okay? ## Becky, it could result in your getting too much of the medication, at on...

I have been on every narcotic out there from the lowest to 100 mg Morphine four times a day, in combination with OxyContin and Oxycodone, Norco, Percocet, and the 2mg Xanax four times a day with it. I got put on Exalgo 32 twice a day with Norco, Lyrica, and some other drugs and it was not taking care of the pain good enough. To make this short, I would put my Exalgo under my tongue to soften it up and split the pill with a pill splitter, you'll see grey and white. The white part is the med, but then I would chew it up or grind it in a pill grinder and swallow it. Works 100 times better and faster. ## Thanks for the advice. I know it's not recommended to take it that way, but you were right. I got relief for the first time. ## Since I started taking Exalgo (and yes, like the rest...

I have a friend that has chewed tobacco for 30+ years and after 3 days he was free of any cravings. Three weeks later he stopped taking the medication and he has not had the cravings since. I chew tobacco and I try to tease him, that's what friends do, and he says he has no use for it and he doesn't care to ever chew again. I guess that was my way to see if this stuff works. I set up an appt. with my doctor to get a prescription, I hope it works for me as it did my buddy, 100 dollars a prescription is a lot better than the side effects and 300 I spend now on Copenhagen. Good Luck to all and wish me luck!

I just started Contrave last Friday. I have really had no side effects, but because I have a narrowed esophagus, I have trouble swallowing the pill (it gets stuck). I cut the pills in half and take both halves at the same time and this makes it easier for me to get them down. My question - is this messing with the efficacy of the medicine? ## You should not split the pills. They are an extended release tablet. This is copied from the Contrave literature: Extended-Release Tablets: 8 mg naltrexone HCl /90 mg bupropion HCl CONTRAVE should be taken by mouth in the morning and in the evening. The tablets should not be cut, chewed, or crushed. Total daily doses greater than 32 mg/360 mg per day (two tablets twice daily) are not recommended. In clinical trials, CONTRAVE was administered with m...

she has alzheimers and has chewed her metroprol 25mg pill. just want to make sure she will be okay ## Hi, Evelyn! Yes, as long as it's not a time released formulation, which would be denoted by something on the label such as SR, XR, ER or something similar, there's no real harm in it. The worst thing about it is that it will really taste terrible. :-) Learn more Metoprolol details here. You may want to double check anything she takes and see if they are time released or not, as that could be a danger if she chews them up, since she may get too much of the medication at once. Is there anything else I can help with?

gastor problems ## Buddy, I know you don't want to hear this, but you have to somehow consume that pill. You could A. Crush it up and put it in orange juice or any liquid with a strong taste (NOTE SPRITE!). B. Fess up to it, When it's time to take the pill don't fret, just say I can do this and you'll get it down. Keep trying it worked for me, and also kept me from death. Also, try and get someone who lives with you to surprisingly let you know when to take your pill. so you don't have the anticipate it all day. ## (NOT SPRITE)* ## Most medications are available in liquids, or chewables for those that have trouble swallowing tablets, so you may want to ask your doctor about trying one of them. I've recently fractured my hip and am taking 5mg Oxycodone, but don't really feel the affect of it and want to know if I chew it will the affect be stronger. ## No, the effects will be the same. You can't get more than 5mg out of 5mg. You should see your doctor if it isn't helping. The goal is to minimize your pain not to "feel it." Hope you do well. ## When a medication as strong as Oxycodone can't be felt, then you have to figure that something strange is going on with the tablet itself. Although I agree with post #1 in that 5mg is 5mg, no matter which way you look at it. The problem that many patients are reporting from ineffectiveness is in my opinion likely due to the added binders/fillers that make up the tablet's composition (these constantly change...

I have bad nightmares and a fever blister on my lower lip. I take 90mg contrave. Can I cut the dose in half? ## Contrave is time released, so you should not split the tablets. You would normally find a score line on tablets that can be split, but there is none in this case. NDC: 51267-890 "CONTRAVE should be taken by mouth in the morning and in the evening. The tablets should not be cut, chewed, or crushed. Total daily doses greater than 32 mg/360 mg per day (two tablets twice daily) are not recommended. In clinical trials, CONTRAVE was administered with meals. However, CONTRAVE should not be taken with a high-fat meal because of a resulting significant increase in bupropion and naltrexone systemic exposure" Ref: DailyMed

I am having great results. I have been taking it for three weeks and have lost 12 lbs. I am at full dose 4 pills a day. I have this horrible bitter taste in my mouth like crushed asprin and I have this loud ringing in my ears. I can deal with the ringing ear but, the only way to combat the taste is to constantly chew sugarless gum. Do these symptoms subside? ## You didn't specify what medication you're talking about. ## I apologize I am on contrave. And I have this unbearable crushed asprin bitter taste in my mouth all the time. ## A change in taste can be a normal side effect of this medication, according to FDA reports. It can also cause other side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and anorexia. I've had some medications cause stuff to taste very sal...

I received a refill on my children's Fluoride tablets and received IC Ethedent. Is this another name for Fluoride? Does it differ from Fluoride? The very small tablet (or may be considered a pill)is light pink and has ETH imprinted on one side and 434 on the other. Thanks for any info. ## This is a chewable, cherry flavored tablet containing 1.0mgs of Fluoride, so yes, it is the same thing, just from a generic manufacturer. ## My son took Ethedent when he was 3 yrs old, now he is 6, and his permanent teeth are growing in. They have white spots on them, and the dentist told me this is a result of too much flouride when he was 2 or 3. I was wondering if your child is having the same sideaffects. of course this drug was discontinued shortly after he took the tablets.
