Disulfiram (sold under the trade name Antabuse) is a drug used to support the treatment of alcohol use disorder by producing an acute sensitivity to ethanol (drinking alcohol). I have had 3 conssecutive disulfiram implants whitch had a great pshycological effect. I did not drink for these 3, 3 month periods. One day after my fourth implant, something overwhelmingly upset me and I turned to the bottle only to discover I had no known side-effects. That was yesterday. Today I am drinking again. I'm not sure what to make of this. In the beginning I truly believed this is the answer. Now I'm not sure if my doctor is pulling the wool over my eyes or if for some reason my liver still manages to perform its usual duty whilest on treatment. Is there a proffesional that can please shed some light on this? The lives of many depend on my recovery. Thank you kindly

what should we do for the side effects caused by esperal disulfiram tablets?? ## #1 - Esperal is not a tablet. Esperal is a microchip that checks bloodstream for alcohol and if a patient consumes alcohol and this level goes above the normal limits Esperal infuse Disulfiram in a bloodstream. #2 - don't drink while on Esperal and you will have no side effects. #3 - Disulfiram Ethanol Reaction (DER) activated by Esperal lasts for as long as 4-6 hours and can't be stopped.

hi I would like to start using this drug but I am a painter and I am exposed to different kid of chemicals containing alcohol. Do you have any experience in this? Apparently you should not use even perfumes or basically anything what contains alcohol and as a painter I am exposed to a lot of fumes Thanks for you help in advance ## The main concern is alcohol, and if you are absorbing it, because it can worsen some of the side effects, according to NIH reports, which could include flushing, headache, nausea, vomiting, and flushing. Thus, I think you might be better to served to speak to your doctor about other possible treatment options. Alternatively, wearing a painter's mask may also help prevent some of the symptoms. How are you doing? Have you started taking it, yet?

my brother is being kept on disulfiram for deadddiction of alchohole. i want to know that for how long he be kept on disulfiram. our intention is he should e kept for that much long time that here after he should not turn to his old habbit of consuming alchohole. ## My suggestion is that he take it for the rest of his life. There is no harm it in. One pill a day sure beats falling off the wagon and losing friends, job, money, family, etc. There is too much to risk, and too much to gain. Stick with what works.

Sir my husband takes alcohol 3 to 4 times a week.. he is diabetic also.... he is taking tablets for diabetic as well as numness in hands and legs...Is this medicine is safe or have side effects. The most common side effects are: drowsiness, metallic taste in mouth and headache. I used Refusal very successful in Holland, now I am in Bosnia where they only have Esperal. Good luck, alcoholism is a very difficult disease. Be careful with implant, I heard it really has risks. However, I've heard that this type of treatment can be a real success for many people. I haven't actually seen any medications by the name of "Refusal" listed on the web, but that could be because I'm located here in the US and not EU. i have used ant abuse for 5 years and am now told it has been discontinued what can i do ## From what I've read, Antabuse (Disulfiram) has been discontinued in Canada as well as some other countries, due to a lack of demand. You could try contacting the manufacturer about putting it back on the market, and encourage others to do so as well. The more demands they get, the more they'll probably be more apt to reconsidering its production once more. Unfortunately there's not much else you can do in situations like this, other than asking your doctor about other similar alternatives for your condition. It certainly shouldn't be the only drug of its class out on the market, is it?

When treatment is first started, it is usually taken once daily, in a maximum dose of 500mgs for 2 weeks, then adjusted accordingly by your doctor.
