I had reconstructive bowel surgery 4 weeks ago, the diarhea is horrible. My dr. put me on diphena trop 1 tab one time a day. the first week it seemed to work now it is not. Should I be taking it more? I saw other posts of people taking it up to 4x a day. Will this eventually help me get back to being normal? All of this is new to me, and scares me a little bit. I appreciate your feedback. ## It really is impossible for someone (including doctors) to know ahead of time how any medication can affect anyone. They can only assume that it will be effective based on medical records, current health, age, diet, what the condition is, whether or not any other medications are being taken at the same time, etc. Any of these factors as well as others can affect how you respond to this drug. My Dr. prescribed Nystatin, Diphhen, Rulox, Lido for a sore throat that has lingered for three months. The directions are to swish and swallow 15mls every 8 hours. I get the numbness described in your thread, but only for about 10 minutes. How has it been feeling since the timing of your post? According to NIH.gov, constipation is indeed listed as a side effect of Diphen (Diphenhydramine). My doctor refused to refill this Rx for diphen atropine for 6 weeks. I have been taking this med for about 6-7 years now. It is the ONLY med that lets me lead a normal life without explosive diarrhea. If I don't take it, and I have to have a bowel movement, I have about 2 minutes to find a restroom. I usually don't make it and that is a mess. No warning at all. He finally renewed my prescription but wants me to have an Upper GI. How long can you take diphen atropine? Does it CAUSE intestinal problems to make an upper GI necessary? Please help me. Thank you. Are There Any Symptoms Of This That Are Bad, Like If You Accidentally Swallow It? Or If You Don't Swallow It, Because I Took It And It Numbed My Mouth For About 30 Minutes And That's It. ## Hello, Mckayla! How are you? The lido stands for Lidocaine, it's similar to an anesthetic, which is why it numbed your mouth. The other ingredients are Diphenhydramine and Maalox. It's really not harmful, if swallowed, as long as you don't swallow a lot of it, but you may experience nausea, dizziness and diarrhea, as reported by the FDA. Not swallowing it just numbs the mouth, for the most part. How have you been instructed to use it?
