I am taking Diovan 160 mg daily for the past 2 years and lately i have been experiencing some sort of vertigo espacially when i lie down on my bed on the left side. Can somebody on Diovan tell me if he has experienced any form of vertigo ## Diovan contains the active ingredient Valsartan, it is used to treat high blood pressure. And yes, these medications can cause this type of problem and orthostatic hypertension. Have you consulted your doctor about this, yet? You may require a medication adjustment or a switch to a different medication. I've been taking one in the same class and, gradually, over time, it has been lowering my blood pressure far too much and causing these same types of symptoms, so we've had to keep lowering the dosage.

My mom just started taking diovan for her hp and she has diabetes.Sence she has started taken it her sugar level has gone up to 200. Is there anyone else who is on diovan and has diabetes? Any input would be great!CArrie ## Diovan should not cause your mother's blood sugars to go up. Diovan works to protect her kidneys from renal failure, a common disorder with diabetes when not in tight control. She should be monitoring her blood sugars four times daily if they are high and be careful of what she is eating. ## Yes my Mother takes Diovan and has diabetes, since she started her pressure is really low(confused on that). she's 90 ## Yes, I called the company & they stated it should not affect my blood sugar, however, it was 200+ for the 2 days I took it. My meds have been chang...

I have been taking Benicar 20mg for high blood pressure and it was working in combination with two other meds. My drug plan had my doctor change it to Diovan 160mg. Does the Diovan need to be such a large dose compared to the Benicar? Both are angiotensin II receptor meds so do they work the same way? ## Hi Forrest, Even though both of these medications are angiotensin II receptor antagonists and both work by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, they still have completely different chemical structures by which the drugs themselves are synthetically constructed. It's really just this factor along with any other inactive ingredients (binders and fillers) that are put in each tablet, which can determine how each drug is metabolized by your body. I...

PLEASE HELP US WIFE HAS KIDNEY CANCER. ## Is there another pill (generic) I can take similar to Diovan 320mg/25mg. Diovan cost me $50.00 a month. ## Have either of you consulted the relevant doctors, or pharmacists? At this time, I am not aware of a generic product that contains bother classes of the relevant medications, which are an ARB (in this case Valsartan) and the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide. There are generics in these classes, just not as the combined medication, unless one was very recently released that I don't have ...

I've been taking 80mg/12.5 for some months now; bp when measured with two different monitors (upper arm and wrist) has averaged 106-110/61-63, with diastolic figures at times lower than 60, heart rate 55-70. Readings are elevated at the doctors clinic ~ 130-140/75-80. Main problem is regular tension like headache, with similar burning sensation feeling occasionally behind the ears / neck region. CT scan results okay. Electrolytes figures, kidney & liver function tests, and sugar level tests results also okay. I'm strongly convinced that the co-diovan medication is responsible for the headaches / burning sensation feeling described early. My doctors are still observing and this has affected quality of life for me. Is anyone with a similar experience and how can this be addres...

I have ben taking Co Diovan for HBP for a year and a week ago was admited to the ICU for a ministroke and blood pressure over 200. Is it possible that Co Diovan (not on other medications) is responsible for this? ## Co-Diovan contains the active ingredients Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide and is commonly used to help lower high blood pressure. As to what you experienced, with a BP reading of over 200, it is more than likely that your blood pressure being so high is what is responsible and not likely the medication. Mini strokes and full blown strokes are just some of the hazards associated with ones blood pressure being out of control and high. It's possible that after a year of using the medication, your body had adjusted to it and it is no longer working as well to control your ...

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF ANYONE IS TAKING TOPROL XL AFTER STENT SURGERY? I AM NOW TAKING 2 DIOVAN 160/12.5 MG DAILY. I WOULD LIKE TO REDUCE THE COST AND TOPROL XL SEEMS TO BE LESS EXPENSIVE. ## I had open heart last month and was placed on toprol XL 100mg. It has done a great job keeping my heart rate &b/p down ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? They are the only person who can help you decide what would be best for you to take, given your stent surgery. Are you on any other medications? Ref: Toprol XL information Toprol may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination.

i was prescribed diovan 320 mg htc norvitis and diovan 320 mg valsartan, are these the same drug ## No, they are not really the same. The Diovan HCT combines the ARB medication Valsartan with the diuretic Hydrochlorothiazide, which removes excess fluids from the body. The regular Diovan just contains the ARB medication Valsartan. Are there any comments or questions?

Does Losartan hctz tab 100-25 mg equal Diovan HCT 320-12.5 tab. I am concerned about the difference in milligrams. I recently started the Losartan. ## It's usually about 100mgs of the Losartan to equal each 160mg of the Valsartan in the Diovan, but your HCTZ (Hydrochlorothiazide) has been raised from 12.5 to 25, so that dose has been doubled. Learn more Hyzaar details here. Did your doctor make this change? It's really a matter of trying it and seeing how it works for you. If it doesn't work, then you may require a dosage adjustment.

I found an unopened bottle of Diovan (90 tabs) in my medicine cabinet. It got pushed back by my more current orders. It expired 5 months ago; are they still good? ## Hello, Ann! How are you? They don't get dangerous once past the expiration, but they do begin to lose effectiveness. Are they in a factory sealed bottle or one from your pharmacy? The factory sealed ones usually have a longer expiration date. ## Thank you Verwon. I was told it is still good until the end of the year so I started taking it right away. At least my 3-month supply won't be wasted.

difference between diovan 320mg & metoprolol 50mg Will metoprolol do the same job ## The Diovan contains the active ingredient Valsartan, which is an ARB, while the Metoprolol is beta blocker and it usually takes a lower dose of it to achieve the same results. They both carry the risks of very similar side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, stomach pain and headache. You can learn more at the following links: They both are used to treat high blood pressure, but are different types of medications and work differently. Why has your doctor suggested the switch?

diovan hct expired 2007 I ran out of prescription and until I replenish can I take this pill which was a sample from doctor ## No, that is way to old for it to have any efficacy left. Even in the original factory sealed container, they are only good for about 3 to 4 years from the date of production, after that they start to lose efficacy. the best thing to do would be to dispose of them and see your doctor for a new prescription. Learn more Diovan details here. Learn more HCT details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have sample Diovan 160mg from Doctor I just found, sealed from 2009. Is it still safe to take now in 2014?

Is it safe to take Diovan and Triamterene/hctz together? I just failed a flight physical partly because the ME said these two drugs shouldn't be taken together!! I've been taking them together for about two years as prescribed by my PCP. Really want to get completely off meds but presume I'll need to go slowly. Any advise? Thanks ## It isn't that they shouldn't be taken together, but they can cause some problems, so your doctor must carefully consider the dosage and should be monitoring you regularly. Now, this information is only relevant to the medicine in general. When it comes to specific criteria, such as that related to a flight physical, it may be a prohibited combination, due to the problems that can be caused by using them together. The first is due the risk...

I have been taking Toprol XL for 4 years. Can I replace it with Diovan? ## I am 53 and take 100mg Toprol Xl each morning. I exercise at least 40 minutes 5 days per week (cardio) at the lunch hour. I am the CEO of our company and do experience stress on a regular basis. I am 6'4 tall and 225 pounds. I have been taking toprol for a few years now and recently was increased to 100 mg because my BP was up. I have felt dizzy and light headed on a regular basis and I'm not sure if it's the toprol xl or something else. I take no other medication and I do not smoke or drink. Are there other options to toprol xl, and if so, what are they? Is ther something I could take for my BP that would not make me feel light headed, and drowsy? ## Toprol and Diovan are both used in the treatment o...

Are the ingredients in Diovan 160 mg and Losartan 100-25 mg comparable if I run out of one can I switch to other? ## Hi Elaine, As far as comparing these drugs, I think it's not wise to assume that they have similar properties, since everyone can react differently to one or the other, despite having an equivalent dosage. If you're used to taking one or the other and have your doctors permission, I'd say it's fine to switch off between the two. However, at the same time I wouldn't necessarily anticipate having the same relief or results from two entirely different medications. On a side note: Eating whole foods that have little to no sodium and which are high in potassium and magnesium are solid dietary options for lowering blood pressure. These foods primarily includ...
