I have been told by my Neurologist that this drug Diltiazem cd can cause Parkinson like symptoms in a small group of people. Where can i find more info about this? ## Can somebody explain to me what the differences are between Diltiazem CD 180mg Cap(sule?) vs. Diltiazem HCL ER 180mg Cap(sule?). If I remember correctly, a pharmacist told me that the ER stood for extended release and that the CD type of the medication was quite different, but I'm not sure about that. TYIA. ## I'm sorry to post that to somebody's question. I don't know how to delete it but will post it as a different topic. Sorry for the duplicate post. ## As above-besides $40 what is difference between Diltiazem HCL er(cd) and Diltiazem cd(dilt cd) 180 mg daily dose ## All I can tell you is, I have taken C...

At one time I was on Tiazac 360 er and then the pharmacy put me on Diltiazem 360. The Tiazac 360 er is more economical than Diltiazem 360 er. I wanted to switch back to Tiazac 360 er. I have 5 refills left, and I asked the girl at the pharmacy and she said that I would have to have a new prescription. I thought that both of these were generics and I do not understand why I would have to have another prescription. The Tiazac works just as well as Diltiazem. Thanks for your help! ## Hi Dave, Tiazac is actually a brand name of Diltiazem; but I too find it odd that they would make you switch off of something that's working just fine without giving any specific reasoning behind their decision. Instead they just say "here you go!" and that's that. I personally prefer brand nam...

What is the difference between diltiazem CD, diltiazem XR and diltiazem ER? Can you refer me to a website where I could research this information? ## There is no difference, it's just different abbreviations for the same thing, a time released version of the medication, some places will us CR, ER or XR, there is no definitive way that it has to be done. Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker used to treat hypertension and angina. You can read more here: Do you have any other questions? ## Not quite true. These are indeed all timed release versions of diltiazem, but they all use different drug delivery systems and are released into the body at different rates. You can verify this if you look at the professional write-ups on each drug. For example, diltiazem CD, which is generic for t...

My dad just started taking the DiltiazemER180 MG. His heart rate has been running near 130. His doctor has told him to start taking the 240 mg. My question is if he goes to a higher dose, will that increase his heart rate more or is it possible let that it will slow it down? I'm not a doctor but I don't understand how upping the dosage will help. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. ## Hello, Rhonda! How are you? This medication has been known to cause elevated heart rate as a side effect, but most side effects are transient and wear off, as someone's body gets used to the medication. As listed by the FDA, he may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and orthostatic hypotension. Once his body adjusts, in theory his heart rate should lower, as ...

i habve been taking this for years in the AM, now my Dr. wants to "add" a PM dose as well. should I be using non-er instead? ## It can be dosed that way, if deemed necessary by your doctor. Some people need a higher dose, or have to split up doses to get better control of their medical conditions. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am on Eliquis 5 mg. per day, and Diltiazem 240 mg. ER. Have insomnia, dizziness, loss of balance, weak legs, itching especially of scalp and face, frequent urination, swelling in ankle and foot, and small appetite. I am in my 80's. I'd like to know if others have any of the same symptoms? ## Yes, those are possible side effects of one, or both of these medications. You may also experience headache, diarrhea, stomach pain, and easy bruising from the Eliquis and Diltiazem. How long have you been taking them? Some side effects will go away, in time, as your body gets used to them, but if it has already been a few months, and you are still having issues, you should speak to your doctor. ## I have been taking both for about 2 years. How are you? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. They are the same, Cartia XT is just the name brand. Diltiazem 120 having no effect for frequent PVC’s. I stopped my statin and PVC’s disappeared after about a week. I then stopped the Diltiazem and PVC’s returned. Back on Diltiazem and all good again. Is it possible that Rosuvastatin is somehow blocking the effect of my calcium channel blocker? ## Rosuvastatin has been known to cause some heartbeat irregularities in some people that take it, though it isn't common, so it is possible that it is causing an issue, or worsening your existing issue, beyond the capability of the Diltiazem to control it. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication, or stop taking statins altogether. ## Thanks. Have an ap...

I don't know the difference between tr and er. some people say that there is not difference and others say that there is. ## Hello, Buddy! How are you? Hello, I am taking the 180 and about to run out, and have some 240 mgs left. Can i take them until my 180s get filled? Would there be any problems? They are the same except the dosage. ## Hello, Donald! How are you? It would be best not to raise your dosage, without your doctor's approval. Taking a higher dose could result in your experienced nausea, dizziness, lowered blood pressure and lowered heart rate, as reported by the FDA, which may put your life in danger. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Use a good pill cutter. Cut them in half. ## That's probably not a good idea since "ER" means "Extended Release" - they are likely coated to be time released and if you cut them in half, the dosage would take effect too much at one time. If the tablets don...

Can you post back with more details? ## I am going to be on Medicare effective June 1, and am considering AARP United Healthcare plan F. I had my thyroid and one parathyroid removed in December 2014 due to a multinodular goiter. It was diagnosed by a cardiologist as I had hyperthyroidism with a constant resting heart rate of over 90 bpm, and I have remained on it after surgery, being put on 75mg of levothyroxine. The side effects have been getting so bad that I went off Diltiazem a few days ago, and after the second day, my energy level and overall well-being started to come back. So, I know I need the dosage adjusted downward. However, I can't adjust it until I see the doctor. Is it safe to stop taking Diltiazem abruptly? ## Hello, Kate! How are you? You shouldn't stop such a medication abruptly, as the FDA reports that it may cause a rebound effect, which could include elevated heart rate and blood pressure and...
