My wife has really bad nausea. I would like to know if it is from the Dilaudid or Fentanyl or both. She is on 125 mcg/h Fentanyl per 72 hours and 4-8mg Dilaudid per day. LR ## I have a three year battle with severe abdominal pain which all started due to internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst. I have been on all sorts of pain medications. Currently I am on Fentanyl 100mg patchs and Dilaudid 4 mg. They used to work great but now it seems like only the IV dilaudid will give me any relief. I constantly have to go to the ER for pain management and I hate going due to the fact that I live in a small town which and the some doctors think that all I want is pain medication.there is such a big stigma about being on pain meds.has there been anything eles that anyone could recomend I am really de...

Will a 75 mcg/hr fentanyl patch help with dilaudid withdrawal? ## Tramadol 50 mg x 2 tablets is the only thing that works for me when I can't find a pharmacy to fill my Dilaudid. I have heard it helps with Oxy and other pain reliever withdrawals. The stupid Commonwealth of Kentucky has outlawed Tramadol and Lyrica is highly regulated because it helps with withdrawals. Yes, they are living in the stone age. So, Tramadol must work for others as well. Your doctor should prescribe it, it is available at any pharmacy, doesn't help that much with the pain, but you won't get sick. ## Fentanyl is much stronger, so that would actually be the wrong direction to go. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, diz...

I am changing from 125 mcg of Fentanyl with 10 mg oxycodone 4x daily to hydrpmorphone and Lyrica since pain isn't being controlled. What should the new dosings be? I weigh about 170 lbs. ## Hello, Celeste! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain. As to the Lyrica, there is no conversion for it, since it is not actually an analgesic like the others. It is actually an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. And if your switching out the Oxycodone for the Hydromorphone for breakthrough pain, you'd need 3.75mgs of Hydromorphone to equal each 10mgs of Oxycodone. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the p...

Is it alright to combine breakthrough medication (ie; one 10/325 percocet, one 8mg dilaudid), while wearing a 25 mcg fentanyl sq patch? ## Have they all been prescribed for you? Generally, only one breakthrough medication is prescribed with a long-acting medication, such as the Fentanly patch. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, dizziness, and headache. Taking too much could result in overdose, which carries the risk of being fatal, so you should only take the medications, and doses that your doctor has instructed you to take. Are you on any other medications? ## Thanks for the retort. Post traumatic surgeries, do notice one pain med. (/not mixing) at a time, is now very specific to treat...

My wife takes 4-8mg dilaudid a day and is on 125 mcg/h fentanyl patch she is having really bad nausea ## She is taking to much narcotic! She is lucky she isn't overdosed. You will never get rid of all you pain, period! It is a fine balance between pain control and quality of life. i would reduce to 4 mg and you can break the 8's in half. They are not time released if labeled Dilaudid or hydromorphone! Chronic Pain Patient from Florida who can't find anyone to fill my 8mg Dilaudid! ## I have a lot of experience with Dilauded, and this side-effect is very common. I recommend Gravol Suppsitories, they'll take away the nausea without interfering with her pain treatment. ## That can be a normal side effect of opiate medications, as reported by the FDA, they can also cause diz...

I'm on Dilaudid 8mg and fentynal 75 mcg/hr every 72 hr, and I still experience Severe pain! I was wondering I'd there was suggestions on what I should ask the Dr, I don't want to seem like I'm drug seeking but what other medication do you think could help me? ## How often do you take the Dilaudid? There is a higher dose of the Fentanyl available, that you may be able to try. However, it leaves you nowhere to go, since it is the highest available. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I take the Dilaudid every 4-6hr ## Im sure you found an answer by now but in case you didn't.......li just started with the fentanyl patch 50 mcl ( and ju...

How many mcg of fentanyl n how often would equal to the 6 a day 8mg Dilaudid I'm taking. My tolerance is going up really fast. I'm suffering. 25 mcgs of 10 fentanyl patches are only $44, while ridiculously 15mcg is 184$. Just wondering if 25 mcg and 10 patches in a month is what I should ask my dr for? She prefers ms contin but it's 88$. Can't win for losing. I can give everyone a tip tho. Use an RX Savings Card - YOU SAVE A CRAP LOAD OF $$$ USING THEM!! ;) Thank you in advance for any replies. ## Hello, Jodie! How are you? It only takes .64mgs of Fentanyl to equal your current daily dose of Dilaudid, the patches are usually changed every 72 hours. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzi...

Can I take oxycodone and dilaudid and be on the fentanyl patch at the same time safely? ## Hello, Hauler! How are you? Has your doctor prescribed all of these? It's odd to be on 2 regular release medications, as well as the time released patch. Usually, just one regular release is prescribed for breakthrough pain. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Taking too much can create the risk of overdose, especially if you aren't opiate tolerant. ## Was on Dilaudid for hip replacement. Horrible drug to get off of. Am in withdrawal now. Tried Fentenyl patch and that was just as bad. ## Trust me, you don't want to. I'm t...

I'm currently taking dilaudid 4mg & a fentanyl 25mg patch. All I can say is that it seems to me that the hydromorphone "dilaudid" isn't effective as my oxys Irs or my morphine Irs used to be. I was wondering if anyone thinks that taking oxy is better than dilaudid ## I am on the same two meds fentanyl 25 & dilaudid 4 & the dilaudid just isn't helping me. I have so much BT pain it's unbearable some days. I was also checking on here if anyone else could answer the same question. " which Med is better than dilaudid and what strength should I be taking? I have taken oxycontin and oxy ir and morphine sulfate ir and Ms contin but never with fentanyl patches. I'm going to be speaking with my Dr tomorrow and I desperatly need some advice. my fiancée is on 25 mg of fentanyl she was on 12 mg of exalgo. what is the difference and what is stronger? the pain management company she is dealing is very hard to talk too and get ahold of. she has a lot of breakthrough pain. can anyone help me with these questions please and thank you. ## Hello, Alexander! How is your fiancé doing? The Fentanyl is actually the strongest narcotic available, but she may need a stronger dose of it. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has she consulted her doctor? ## She has called a couple of times. She has been on them for about 7 days now. How high will they put her just to get to the break though pain? She i...

Hi, About three years ago during treatment for rectal cancer, I was given Dilaudid and Fentanyl as part of a pain management program. During a 10-day hospital stay, Dilaudid was injected sub-q every half-hour by means of a pump, and Fentanyl was injected by nurses when necessary (4-5 times a day). After discharge from the hospital, I kept the Dilaudid pump but, fortunately, Fentanyl was no longer required. I stayed on the pump until surgery 6 weeks later. Dilaudid was administered for another 10 days after surgery, but since the cause of the initial pain (a large tumour) had been removed, I no longer needed the medication. Withdrawal was limited to a couple of days of shivering (this was during a heat wave). My question is this: how long after taking medications as powerful as these doe...

I knocked about 2 weeks worth of dilaudid down my sink by accident when I was brushing my teeth yesterday morning. I saved 4 pills. I take 4mg-4x per day and was switched last month from morphine to fentanyl 25mcg patches every 72 hours. I have been on the dilaudid for 5 months. I'm very concerned about the withdrawal I'm going to go thru without my meds. Do you think the patch and a few leftover morphine pills from last month will help my situation? Will they make the withdrawal go away faster? I also have 2 subutex pills that are older. Should I take the subs or will they put me in a precipitated withdrawal with the patches? I don't see my doctor for 13 days. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please help. ## Please be careful with the fentanyl. I'm going thru so...

My brother has Stage IV lung/bone cancer and the new pain cocktail is 8 mg. dilaudid and 150 fetanyl patch plus IV dilaudid every 2 hours. He will probably be released from the hospital today or tomorrow so they have been easing off the injectable dosage and administering it oralls. The increased dosage of the oral dilaudid is causing him to vomit, which will lead to dehydration etc. What is the next best solution to solving this insidious problem of keeping his pain under control without these side effects? Thank you. ## Hello, Law! How is he doing? There is really no way to avoid the side effects, if they're going to happen, they're going to happen. Sometimes, taking the medication with food can help to minimize the nausea. The doctors may also be able to prescribe a medicatio...

I am currently prescribed fentanyl 25mcg and hydromorphone 4mg aka dilaudid. Ever since I was switched to dilaudid I have been having severe BT pain and some not so good side effects like bladder issues that I informed my PCP and after seeing them 4 times they were telling me I might have to see a Urologist...smh here it's a side effect of the hydromorphone... anyways I was wondering if anyone knew the difference between oxy ir or morphine ir to replace the dilaudid and what mg I should be switched to. ## Hello, Jess! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. The only Oxy IR dosage that is available is a 5mg capsule, there others are all either regular release or the extended release. This medications contains the active ingredient Oxycodone and you'd need 10.67mgs of ...

Can fentanyl be administered to pts with a possible dilaudid sensitivity safely? ## This is definitely something that needs to be addressed with your doctor. There are a number of potential factors unique to each individual's health (that only your doctor or medical advisor would know), which could determine the safety of administering a drug with possible contradicting properties to your sensitivity.

Can anyone tell me if the fentanyl 50mcg and dilaudid 4mg, which I had taken two of by that time along with an inj. of Nubane & colace caused me to have a horrific seizure within a half hour after dosing? I have never taken colace before and some meds alone cause me to seize. Need to know. ## I'm very sorry about what happened to you. However, I really don't think anyone is going to be able to give you a definitive answer to this. It is possible, thought not common and, if you've had seizures before, it could have been entirely unrelated to any of these medications. Has your doctor ordered testing, such as brain scan, as recommended by the NIH? If something causes some type of chemical imbalance in your brain, then it could very well cause a seizure. Are these the only m...

and fentanyl 150 mcg for spinal stenosis. Cronic pain for years but the last 2 is are finally getting to me. 8 surgeries, 4 major cancer and more, and 4 for hernias and so on. Always wear patch but sometimes 3,4 days mostly pain free don't take deludide. Then the pain hits. 16mg every 4 hrs bearly touches it. You would think not taking for days I would get knocked for a loop. This moring woke up from pain, it was like I woke up in recovery room. Took 24 mg dl and didn't touch it. Whats going on. How long can a person put up with the pain without going loony. Having pain like I have for the past 2 years is really mentally fatiguing ## You are building a very strong tolerance to opioids you have to go on a long acting pain killer like methadone. If fentanyl is 80 times stronger than morphine would you consider it safe to drive and work on the 50mg fentanyl mylan patch? ## I would not consider this safe. And I'm sure your Dr, and the local police would agree with me. A friend of mine was recently stopped by the local police. He is on dilaudid for chronic back pain, he got a DUI. Be careful and don't take dilaudids and drive. ## It's a 50 microgram patch, not 50 milligrams, because it is very potent. That said, it is usually best not to drive, operate heavy machinery, or engage in any activity that requires optimal mental alertness, when you first start taking any new medication, until you are aware of how it affects, since it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, and sedation. Hi, I have chronic pain. I have Interstitial Cystitis, have chronic pelvic pain, shoulder pain, neck and back pain, etc. I am a 45 year old woman who has had 4 children so you'd think that I would be able to handle pain. However, I cannot. At 5'9" tall, I only weigh 115 pounds so you'd think that pain meds would hit me like a ton of bricks! They don't. I have a very low threshold for pain, but a very high threshold for pain medication or just medication in general. For instance, I had a hysterectomy two weeks ago. Before the surgery I was given Versed. Versed does NOTHING for me. I told the Anesthesiologist but he gave it to me anyway. It does not cause amnesia in me like it does in most people nor does it have a sedating effect. So he then gave me a dose of Fentanyl...

Hi, I'm on the 50mcg patch and my Dr. also has me on Norco 10. I want to get off the patch so bad, but I'm fighting a staph infection for the second time in three months. Back in May I had injections in my lumbar, and four days later I was in the hospital with 104 degree fever. I ended up having emergency back surgery to clean out the infection. By the time I went to surgery two days later (because my Dr.'s at the time are idiots) I was septic w/ 105 degree fever. Needless to say, I nearly died. When I finally got out of the hospital the second time, ( with NEW Dr.'s, my Pain Management doc put me on Fentanyl 50, and Dilaudid 2mg 3x a day, I couldn't function. So I asked my Dr to change my meds, she only changed the Dilaudid to Norco 10, one every 4 to six hours. Now...
