Hello , my doctor had me on 10 mg of oxyneo for chronic pain in my arm. It's was never enough for me. Anyway , I had thyroid surgery neck dissection for cancer. My neck hurts a lot from surgery so my doctor put me on dilaudid 6mg extended release and 4 to 8 mg every 4 hours through out the day. 8 mg helps for about an hour. Should I discuss raising the extended release to 12 mg for more releif ? ## You need to tell your dr if the pain medication isn't helping the pain like it is suppose to. He is the best one to decide what changes need to be made. ## Thanks I will do that. I think if they raise my mg I should be ok. The doctor is starting me off at a low dose , then gradually move it up. Is 8 mg every 4 hours with 12 mg extended release every 12 hours a lot? Or is that dose ok?...

My wife has really bad nausea. I would like to know if it is from the Dilaudid or Fentanyl or both. She is on 125 mcg/h Fentanyl per 72 hours and 4-8mg Dilaudid per day. LR ## I have a three year battle with severe abdominal pain which all started due to internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst. I have been on all sorts of pain medications. Currently I am on Fentanyl 100mg patchs and Dilaudid 4 mg. They used to work great but now it seems like only the IV dilaudid will give me any relief. I constantly have to go to the ER for pain management and I hate going due to the fact that I live in a small town which and the some doctors think that all I want is pain medication.there is such a big stigma about being on pain meds.has there been anything eles that anyone could recomend I am really de...

I was wondering if they make DILAUDID in the ER form also. Meaning time released form? ## Yes, they do. It's available in 8, 12, 16 and 32mg extended release dosages, it's actually called Exalgo. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Have recently come across 12mg dilaudid a neighbor gets at a compound pharmacy ,though been unable to find any info at all on these. Help!? ## And you won't find any information on them. A compounding pharmacy creates the medications as specially ordered from someone's doctor. This may be done for several reasons, such as someone needing a combination of medications that isn't available on the market. Or as in this case, a dosage that isn't available in the standard prescription medications. That's also why they are in capsule form, the pharmacy orders empty capsules and then fills them with the dosage the doctor has ordered. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Thus, in this case, there are no special imprints to look up and there will be no details on it under that do...

Right now I am on 8mg every 4 hours. Is it okay to increase that to 12 mg every 4 hours. ## Are you having a problem with the 8mg, is it no longer working? How long have you been taking it? Learn more Dilaudid details here. This is a very potent narcotic, so any titration up must be done very carefully. Have you talked to your doctor? ## I have only been on the total 4 mg for just a few months. My GP is away right now and I will certainlly discuss a increase in mg. with her when she returns. I am in pain because of a shoulder pain. I had a replacement done 3 yrs ago and always have had a bit of discomfort. Within the last year the pain has increase immensely - that is why the morphine. I am now waiting for an U/S to see if I have ripped the tendon. Sometiime the lower dose helps, but al...

I have been taking 8 mgs. of Dilaudid 4 times a day for the last 6 months for a chronic illness. 3 months ago I had surgery to give some relief to my illness, and I have since found some stabilization to my symptoms. As such, my doctors want to wean me off of the Dilaudid. I am very nervous about the idea because I have noticed in the mornings (after not having the Dilaudid for 12 hours), I feel a bit anxious and I have joint and muscle aches and pains. Therefore, the first thing I do is take my Dilaudid. Currently to wean me off my doctor is suggesting that I taper back one pill a day (around lunchtime) each week so that I go from taking 8 4mg. tablets a day to taking one 4 mg. tablet a day. This process should take about one month to complete, and it truly frightens me. Do you have an...

I have been on 8mg Dilaudid and 80mg hydrocodone for about 4 yrs. My doctor now changed me to Hysingla (hope that's right spelling). Anyways, they are 80mg, but had to change back because they didn't work as well. Now he's telling me that between the 2, I'm taking like 12 times the amount of the highest does of morphine given out and is now sending me to a pain doctor. Is that true? ## No, you are not taking 12 times the highest dose of Morphine, but you are exceeding the highest dose that the DEA recommends. They have issued directives that doses be limited to no more than the equivalent of 120mgs of Morphine, per day, some states have lowered it further to no more than the equivalent of 100mgs of Morphine, per day. You are currently taking roughly twice that. The only ...

equivilency of roxicodone 30 mg ## An equivalent dose of Dilaudid/Hydromorphone would be 11.25mgs. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Wow som1 who actually knows there conversion rates... 30mg oxicodone = to 29mg hydrocodone = to 60 mg of morphine = to 20mg meathadone = to 20mg oximorphone = to 12mg hydromorphone = to 600mcg fyntynal = to 30mg diamorphine, remember all these drugs have different boiavalabilties like oxicodone is 90% and hydromorphone oraly has a bio availability of 30-35% thats why it sucks. oraly bio is same. Through rectal and through nasle passage the bio is 55% and iv is 100%, tho bioavalibility varies wildly oraly from 10% to 60%, also hydromorphone is 60 times stronger than morphine when administered via iv. Morphine's bioavailability is 20 to 40% oral...

I, too, have been having a serious problem finding a pharmacy that will (or can) fill my perscription for 120 dilaudid (hydromorphone) 8mg tablets. I am in the end stages of cervical cancer that has spread too far for treatment. The doctors all say "we will keep you comfortable." My perscription was written 18 days ago and after calling a few pharmacies and realizing that would not get me any answers, I had to have someone physically take me to 24 pharmacies only to be told they don't have them at all or that the ones they get go to their regular customers and that the suppliers are only sending them a very limited quantity each month and they can't even order enough to fill my perscription at all. I have been able to fill a one week supply of the 4 mg twice but now that...

I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis nine years ago. I've had a lamectomy, a spinal fusion, and numerous outpatient surgeries since then without success. I've been prescribed methadone HCL (30 mg every 12 hours); Valium (5 mg every 8 hours); Butalbital ((APAP-CAFF 50-300-40 every 8 hours for headaches complicated by these opiate combinations); and dilaudid (16 mg every 8 hours) since then. It is important to know that I have a high level of tolerance to these opiates. In fact, even with these prescriptions my pain score is consistently 7-8/10. As of late, surprisingly, within 15-20 minutes of taking dilaudid I experience strong heart palpitations, which go away within 20-30 minutes of deep breathing and lying down with my legs elevated. However, I'm now really worried and af...

Will I get sick from taking 4-12 mg of dilaudid for approx 60 days? I am having a hip finally tomorrow. Thanks ## Hello, Boston59! How are you? It is difficult to say with certainty. It really depends on your own body and how it reacts to withdrawing from a medication like this. For example, when I had my surgery and was taking Oxycodone for a few weeks afterwards, I didn't have a problem stopping it, when no longer needed, but not everyone does well. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? How often do you take it? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## If you didn't use it iv. With a needle prolly not if you shot them good luck with hell g...

I am 19 weeks pregnant. I have been taking 2mg Dilaudid every four hours daily, which would be a total of 12mg in a 24hr period. I have been taking it since 13 weeks pregnant, so a little over 6 weeks. I have been taking it every single day for chronic kidney pain. My doctor decided to transfer my care to a pain management clinic, and my appointment is not until Tuesday, it is currently Saturday. My OB refuses to write me a script to get to through until my appointment, and even though I have been taking them only as directed, they want be to come in and be converted to Methadone. NOT HAPPENING. I will suffer through all the pain in the world before having a child born to Methadone. My OB has refused to wean me down on the medication, so I am currently off it cold turkey. My wife takes 4-8mg dilaudid a day and is on 125 mcg/h fentanyl patch she is having really bad nausea ## She is taking to much narcotic! She is lucky she isn't overdosed. You will never get rid of all you pain, period! It is a fine balance between pain control and quality of life. i would reduce to 4 mg and you can break the 8's in half. They are not time released if labeled Dilaudid or hydromorphone! Chronic Pain Patient from Florida who can't find anyone to fill my 8mg Dilaudid! ## I have a lot of experience with Dilauded, and this side-effect is very common. I recommend Gravol Suppsitories, they'll take away the nausea without interfering with her pain treatment. ## That can be a normal side effect of opiate medications, as reported by the FDA, they can also cause diz...
