Is it safe for a 72 yr. old to take 4 different high blood medications? It seems scary... ## Multiple medications are often prescribed to help lower high blood pressure as safely and as fast as possible, or to help control certain cardiac conditions. How are they working for them? If they are experiencing issues, such as low pressure/low heart rate, as well as other side effects that the FDA lists, such as dizziness, severe drowsiness, headache, dehydration and fainting? ## Sorry, I meant to add that if they are experiencing such issues, they may need dosage adjustments, or to stop certain medications. ## I take amlodipine 10 mg, losartan 50 mg, acylovir 400 mg, bystolic 5 mg...among other meds. Isn't that too much high blood pressure medication?

Im on prexum 4mg 3 days back i took my pill and just bout 15 minits later i passed out is it possible that my b/pressure were normal and the pill brought it down to fast, can your b/pressure go back to normal again? ## How long have you been on it? If you're blood pressure has been at normal levels on this dose, it's possible that the dose is now too high and you may need to take a lower one. Usually, higher doses are used at first, to bring someone's blood pressure down as fast as possible, then the doctor should be monitoring them regularly and they should be checking it themselves, so the dosage can be adjusted as needed. Learn more Prexum details here. When I first go out of the hospital, I was on quite a few different medications and was taking 33 pills a day, but that ...

I been taking losartan Hctz 100-25 daily for many years I excersize eat well. About 2 months ago this briefly happened for about a week.. Now again and it's bothersome. My readings are high 184/104 after sitting on couch. Palpitations sitting lying down.Feel better when outside fir some reason Seems to go into my throat also. I do have a goiter on thyroid/voice box. Very tired. Thought maybe from house, windows closed , pellet stove.. ## Are there any other significant changes that you can remember around the times this happens? Such as eating differently, drinking more liquids, sleeping badly, forgetting a dose of medication, not being active or etc? The 184/104 has the potential to be dangerous and you should consult your doctor. You may need to switch medications. The FDA lists t...

I am presently using prexim 4mg for blood pressure, and experiencing a slight throat irritation causing me to cough now and again. is this a normal side effect/ and if so why / and what is causing this to happen/ ## Hello, Greg! How are you? Yes, that can be a side effect of many blood pressure/cardiac medications. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, hypotension and increased urination. However, the cough doesn't usually go away as most other side effects usually do, so you should speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have tried 5 different Blood Pressure Medications. All are giving me side effects of depression, loss of energy, trouble concentrating, joint pain, swelling, weight gain. Anyone here know of a Blood Pressure Medication with few side effects? ## Hello, Julie! How are you? I understand what you're going through. I rant the gamut of them myself, it took about a year to finally find ones that worked for me, without making me totally miserable. Thus, the ones I suggest you speak to your doctor about are Atacand and Labetalol, with the latter being known to cause the least side effects. You may still experience some, short-term, such as nausea, dizziness and headache, but they usually wear off after a few weeks, as your body gets used to the medication. Is there anything else I can help...

I have noticed that taking 100mg of Provigil raises my blood pressure. Anyone else have these same issues? Will it go away over time? ## That is normal, when you take a stimulant, such as this. The FDA does lists it as a common side effect and no, it most likely won't go away, it may actually worsen with time, which is why these medications are not usually prescribed for people with existing high blood pressure. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, and anorexia. How high has your blood pressure been? You might need to switch to a different medication.

Two doctors have told me to take atacand 8mg, lisinopril 5mg, and metroprol succ. 25mg for my slightly high blood pressure. Do they do the same thing is this overkill? sjr ## I honestly believe that taking those 3 different medications for 1 condition is a 'prescription overkill' as I like to call it. There are many natural alternatives for Blood Pressure control that in my opinion can be just as effective as prescription medication, with little to no side effects. I personally had high blood pressure, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways such as: Low sodium foods to help reduce inflammation; supplementation of garlic, fish oils, as well as calciu...

On Carvedilol and was on Amlodipine for years. Blood pressure was increasing lately, so Dr changed Amlodipine to 10 mg. This caused flushing in face, ankles swelling, etc. Then took off Amlodipine completely and added Lisinopril. Have backache, nervousness, darkened urine, and dizzy on this. What is the safest blood pressure medicine to use? I’m sensitive to most medications... ## All blood pressure medication has side effects. What works for me may not work for you. There are so many of these meds it's really hit and miss till you find the right meds. I've been on about 8 different ones over the past 7 years and each of them has good and bad. Lisinopril I was on for 4 years, worked ok...good luck. ## Carl is correct, there is really no "safe" medication, they all ...

I have been given Atenolol 100MG and Lisin/HCTZ 20-12.5 by one doctor and Nifedipine 60MG ER by a cardiologist and told to take all three drugs for high blood pressure. Is this normal to take 3 different medications? I'm feeling very tired all the time. ## Yes, if you had particularly high blood pressure that needs to be brought down fast, then having multiple drugs prescribed is completely normal, due to the fact that it is far too dangerous to leave it high. The tiredness you are feeling could be due to two reasons, the first could be side effects of the medications, which should taper off as your body adjusts to them. The second can be due to the blood pressure lowering, since your body is used to running at a higher level. Are you checking your BP regularly?

I have been prescribed ramipril 5, telmisartan 40, losartan sodium 50 at different occasions for blood pressure. I want to know is there any harm in changing the medicines from time to time. Or one should stick to one medicine for BP. Please let me have your suggestion in this regard. Please note that alongwith this BP Medicine I have been taking Glibenclamide5mg+Metformin 500 mg (for diabetic) ## Hello, Kaaliya! How are you? You should take whichever medication your doctor has prescribed, unless they tell you to change it or to stop taking it. These types of medications take awhile to reach their full levels of effectiveness in your body, so switching too frequently wouldn't actually give them a chance to work. Which one are you currently taking?

I'm allergic to sulfur, dye, iodine, sodium what blood pressure medicine can I take the doctor can't seem to find out what will work for me please help.p ## What dyes are you allergic to? And are you allergic to sulfa, sulfur or sulfites? They are all different. Many people that are allergic to sulfa drugs don't have a problem with most blood pressure medications. I am an example of this. I had a bad allergic reaction to the sulfa antibiotic Bactrim a few years ago, but can take most blood pressure medications just fine. What medications has your doctor suggested? If you can post back and clarify, I can research their ingredients for you. ## I'm allergic to sulfur sulfate sulfa drugs what blood pressure medicine can I take ## I take atenolol. Just found out that I am pregnant and I've been taking losartan. My pharmacist said to stop taking it immediately because of risks!!! Will everything be ok? I'm estimating I'm about 4-6 weeks pregnant, but I don't go in for an ultrasound for 2 more weeks! ## You should speak to your PCP about switching to a different medication. Labetalol is one that is considered safe to take during pregnancy, but the final decision is between you and your doctor. But it's something you can ask them about. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Congratulations on the baby! Are you on any other medications?

I use Aggrenox (blood thinner) and Losartan (blood pressure) and my hair is thinning. If I use women's Rogaine will there be any side effects, or problems with the medications? Glo ## Hello, Glo! How are you? I didn't find any interactions or problems listed, but it's always best to double check such information to be sure. However, you may be better served to speak to your doctor about switching off of the Losartan to a different medication, it has been known to cause hair thinning and hair loss in some people that take it. Additional side effects, as listed by the FDA may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm taking Carvedilol tab, an oval tab with E on front and 03 on back for my B/P and I had moved. I went to the cvs as usual. Got my script filled. It wasn't the same mfg. and I'm kind of leery about taking a different name brand. Should I be? ## Hello, Cher! How are you? No, all of the medications available in the U.S. must meet the same quality, efficacy and safety standards, no exceptions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. What are the markings on the tablets you received from CVS?

Do you have a list of medications that will make you itch? I'm on six different types of medication. They are for depression, asthma, anxiety, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Any advice to help stop the itching? Can't sleep. ## Hello, Rachel! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Unfortunately, I can't state which one might be causing it, just based on the classes of the medications, nor can I possibly list all the medications that could cause itching, the FDA has far too large of a list. Can you please post back with the names of the actual medications you are taking? If so, I will be very happy to check the side effect information for you. Thanks!

My husband had a heart attack. Pharmapress was 1 of the tablets they gave him. He stopped using it because his bp drops so low to 92/73 that he almost faints. The doctor told him to take half or a quarter, but the result stayed the same. The BP is far below 120/80. ## Is he on any other medications? That can be a side effect of this medication, according to the NIH, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. Has he informed his doctor that problem continued? He may need to switch to a different medication. I had one that caused me similar problems. ## May I use Pharmapress 10mg instead of Prexum Plus 5mg for a few days? Kindly advise.

I was placed on coveram 10/10, but can't always afford it, can I use phaemapress 10 my in the meantime, until I can afford it again, , couple off years ago, I used a different high blood pressure tablet, with ridaq and something to prevent gout ( can't remember those names), what is your suggestion, for me to do ## I would suggest speaking to your doctor to ask them about prescribing a more affordable option. They shouldn't have a problem doing so, especially since having you on one medication consistently is better than having you switching regularly due to high prices. Typical side effects of medications for high blood pressure may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Are you on any other medications?

I read that one of these pills is also for the to protect my liver from damage due to having diabetes. ## Hello, Torito! How are you? Many medications have multiple medical uses. For instance, I take Atacand, which contains the active ingredient Candesartan, it is a blood pressure medication, but also helps improve cardiac function, which is why my doctor has prescribed it for me. I take a different one in a higher dose to control my blood pressure. And yes, some are also known to have a prote...
