my Dr has changed my medication fron norco to percocet, and now my feet and ankles are swelling severely. What is the difference between hydrocodone and oxycodone? ## They are both narcotic analgesics, however, the Oxycodone is stronger than they Hydrocodone. Oxycodone, by itself, doesn't usually cause peripheral edema, however, it could be the Acetaminophen, since it can sometimes cause people to retain fluids and, if that is what is causing it, it would have also happened with the Norco. Have you consulted your doctor? Whenever edema occurs, it is very important to discover what is causing it, since it can be a sign of other serious medical conditions. Even swelling of the feet and legs can be a sign of congestive heart failure. ## This isn't listed as a common side effect in ...

How are you? They are different medications. Percocet contains Oxycodone with Acetaminophen, while what you've currently been prescribed contains Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen. However, dizziness, nausea and vomiting can be side effects of all narcotic opiates, so you may still experience such symptoms with this one, as well. There is also a...

I have been taking hydrocodone 10-325 for 8 or 9 years. And now my doctor wants to put me on oxycontin. I have never taken any before and he did not say what strength. What are the dosages??? Is it any better than the hydrocodone 10-325??? ## Hello, Tazman57! How are you? Oxycontin is a time released formulation of Oxycodone, the medication is slowly released over a 12 hour period. It is stronger than Hydrocodone, you only need 6.67mgs of Oxycodone to equal each 10mgs of Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It's available in varying doses starting at 10mgs and going all the way up to 160mgs. Is there anything e...

My doc has been prescribing me percocet 10 mg. And now he prescribed me oxycodone 5mg. Which is stronger? The percocet 10's i have been taking for almost 2 years and i told him that they wasn't working that's when he prescribed me the oxycodone 5'mg. And they aren't working either. I am taking pain medication for surgery's . Since the oxycodone 5'mg aren't working what should i ask for. Now hydrocodone doesn't agree with me. It makes me sick.and i would prefer to stick with oxycodone. What should i ask for ? ## Percocet is actually a combination medication that contains Oxycodone and Acetaminophen, because the Acetaminophen helps increase the efficacy of the Oxycodone. So, if you were taking it, there should have been two dosages listed, such a 10/325...

What is the difference between hydrocodone, and oxycodone? For example is five milligrams of each equal to each other? We had a debate at work talking with someone w/o just had surgery, and no one seemed to know. Thanks! ## Hello, Firefly! How are you? Oxycodone is actually a bit stronger than Hydrocodone, you'd only need 3.33mgs of it to be equal to each 5mgs of Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I was wondering what the difference is between hydro and oxo codone? Is it the way the pill is made or extracted from the plant, Hydro is by water and Oxy is by oxygen??? I seem to think the oxycodone is stronger and almost all doctors and health care say it is more addicting than hydrocodone, why is this??? I have taken both for cruched disc in my neck and back, is there anything closely related without so much tylenol, I am severely allergic to Ibuprophen (all anit-Inflamitories) and hate the side affects of the tylenol in with either of these..Any help...???? I have the option to use either oxycodone or hydrocodone for a broken ankle... and after surgery. Which is the stronger of the two? I would like to take one in the evening and then the weaker of the two during the day so I can work. Thanks! ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? Oxycodone is the stronger of the two. The FDA classifies these medication as being narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, since both can cause dizziness and drowsiness, please make sure you won't be driving or operating heavy machinery. NOW BEFORE I GO TO THE DOCTOR LATER I WANT TO QUESTION HER BOUT BOTH MEDS I AM NOW TAKING HYDROCODONE/ACETAMINOPHEN BUT MY BROTHER IS TAKING CXYCODONE HE SAID IT'S BETTER PLEASE LET ME KNOW ## It really depends on what works for you and only you and your doctor can judge that. Have you had problems with the Hydrocodone? The Oxycodone is stronger, 6.67mgs of it is equal to 10mgs of the Hydrocodone, but if the Hydrocodone works well for you, then there would really be no reason to change your medications. ## had broken my ankel and have 9 pins and a plate was fiven oxycodone/acetaminophen 5-325mg tab is that equivalent to hydrocodone/apap 5 mg/500mg tabs ## HYDROCONE BARELY HELPS A TOOTH ACHE OXYCODONE HELPS REAL PAIN

I was just wondering what the difference between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone, it seems to me they both have the same ingredients. Why Oxy or Hydro, what does this mean? ## I AM JUST WONDERING WHAT COLORS AN OXYCODONE [ETHEX041] CAPSULE LOOKS LIKE? ## Ethex 041 Pill Image ## Oxycodone and Hydrocodone No, they are not the same, Hydrocodone is a strong narcotic, but Oxycodone is much stronger, and both work differently for different people. Some people do better and get better results from on or the other. Oxy is also available by itself in tablet or capsule form from 5mgs to 30mgs, Instant Release, and from 10mg to 80mgs in a controlled release form, as well as the forumulations that couple the instant release Oxy with Ibuprofen, Aspirin, or Acetaminophen. Is there a difference between Oxycodone 5MG and Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 5-325MG for pain relief? ## Hello, Janet! How are you? Oxycodone is stronger, but the since the Hydrocodone is coupled with Acetaminophen, which can augment that action of the Hydrocodone, it may work better for some people. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Meaning I cannot get an answer to this after much research over the years here and there. It’s always the same questions, what’s better, what’s more powerful (which is Oxy of course) or what is the difference between the two. My question is this. Does Hydro hit DIFFERENT receptors then Oxy and vice versa? If Oxy is more powerful, then “assuming” it fills receptors that Hydro does not?? So would taking an Percocet AND a Norco at once not be perfect, to say hitting ALL the receptors? Thanks :) ## Opiate receptors are opiate receptors, so they all work on the same ones, if you read up on the NIH research, some opiates are stronger than others, and some work better for some people than they do for other people. So, while they are sometimes combined to help get ...

I was taking hydrocodone 7.750 now they have me on norco 10/325. I don't feel that the new medication is working as well, I get really upset stomach aches and also takes long to heal my pain which I have two bad disc the pain is so bad like if I'm about to give birth or if someone is tearing my back apart, can somebody help me please. ## All of these are opiate analgesics, but Tramadol is the weakest of what you've listed, Hydrocodone would be next and Oxycodone is the strongest of these. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, if the Norco isn't working, you may want to speak to your doctor about trying Oxycodone or Percocet, which combin...

Just started using hydrocodone apap tab5mg-325. This first dose I took is 2 pills at 12 noon. The bottle instructions say you can take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours. It is now 3:15 pm and it feels like the hydro pills, made by Amneal are just about finished. The pills I have been taking prior to this are oxycodone, Mallinckrodt, acetaminophen 5-325 and I take 1 pill every 6 hours. This is OXY condone, NOT HYDRO codone made by Amneal. Are they different strengths? The HYDRO seems weaker. Whats the difference between the two? And should they be interchangeable? ## It does require 7.5mgs of the Hydrocodone to be equal to the 5mg Oxycodone you were taking, because the Oxycodone is stronger. However, it may simply be that the Hydrocodone just doesn't work for you. Learn more Vicodin ...

What is the difference between Norco, Percocet and Lortab? I have a script for all three. I have cancer and wondered which one is the strongest. I don't need all three pain meds if one is better than the other. Thank you. ## Hey CLM, the Norco and Lortab both contain the active ingredient hydrocodeine so basically the same medicine just different brand name. Unless they are a different dose 5/325 vs 10/325 then they are the exact same medication. Percocet contains oxycodone as the active narcotic and is stronger than the other two you mentioned. One may work better than the other for you personally but Percocet is the stronger of them. I hope this helps and the best of luck! ## Sorry for the typo, norco and lortab contain hydrocodone ## Lortab, and Norco both contain Acetaminophen, ...

what is the difference between percocet and vicodin? wanted to know what makes the drugs different don't they do the samething? ## Hello, Glo! How are you? The NIH lists Percocet as containing Oxycodone with Acetaminophen, while Vicodin contains Hydrocodone with Acetaminophen. So yes, they treat the same conditions, but are different medication formulations. Not every medication works for everyone that tries it, so there are usually several available in any given treatment category, thus your doctor can try a different one, if you don't respond to the first you try. The FDA classifies these as narcotic analgesics, so they carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. What is the difference between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone? ## Hi Natalie, Both Oxycodone and Hydrocodone are narcotic pain relievers that are similar in structure; however, the effects of Oxycodone are reported to be much stronger than Hydrocodone. One other thing to consider though, is that everyone reacts/responds differently to each medication despite their potency. So in my opinion it's really important to work closely with your doctor upon determining which drug may be best suited for you and your condition - not just based on strength alone, but also personal preference according to how they affect you. I hope this helps!

What is the difference between h-codone and oxycodone? ## Hello, Sur! How are you? They are both narcotics, but different. For each 10mgs you take of Hydrocodone, you'd only need 6.67mgs of the Oxycodone to be equivalent. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. what is difference between M 357 and Watson 932 in terms of effectiveness? ## Watson 932 is Acetaminophen (325 mg) + Oxycodone hydrochloride (10 mg). M357 is Acetaminophen (500 mg) + Hydrocodone bitartrate (5 mg). That said, the comparison lies between Oxycodone and Hydrocodone. My research shows that Acetaminophen + Oxycodone is used for acute (short term) moderate to severe pain. While Acetaminophen + Hydrocodone doesn't specify being, quote "short term". To view information about these two drugs, please refer to the links below... If you have any more questions or concerns, please post back and I will be happy to help you.

Sandie, both of them contain 10mgs of Oxycodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen, neither of these contain Hydrocodone.
