I was given Trimephoprim to be taken twice daily for 3 days for a severe uti, however I have developed the most dreadful water like diarrhoea , is this coincidence or is it like the medication that has caused this? ## Hello, Michelle! How are you? Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of most antibiotics, as listed by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache and non-allergic skin rash. The best thing to do is to make sure you take in enough liquids to avoid dehydration and it should pass, once your finish your course of treatment. Is there anything else I can help with?

The Dr prescribed my mom codorol to treat her diarrhoea....is this right? As far as I know it could cause constipation and nausea....but in general it treats pain. ## Hello, Des! How is your mom? This medication is listed as containing Paracetamol and Codeine, so the FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause other side effects, such as dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth, in addition to those you've already mentioned. If the doctor felt this would be the best thing to help, then she should try it. What has caused her diarrhea?

Have just had colonoscopy and endoscopy for severe disorders. No results yet from biopsies taken. Calvepen666 is causing diarrhoea and pain. At a loss as to why prescribed. Are there not more appropriate antibiotics for sensitive stomachs.? ## Hello, Vera! How are you? Unfortunately no, diarrhea and stomach pain can be side effects of all antibiotics, as reported by the U.S. FDA. You may also experience dizziness and headache. All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, it is just the nature of adding a chemical to the body to correct or prevent a possible problem. Is there anything else I can help with?

I already have diarrhea dur to previous c diificile infection . My doctor has prescribed microbid which I not very keen o take. Since I feel it will worsen my situation. What should I do? ## Hello, Jam! How are you? Diarrhea can be a side effect of antibiotics, along with nausea, dizziness, headache and non-allergic skin rash, as listed by the FDA. However, C. Difficile can be deadly, if you let it continue untreated. Your doctor would not have prescribed it, if they though there was a dangerous risk to you. How long will you be taking it?

So I stopped eating the tablet..I already have hydroid cyst in the right lobe of the liver.I have consulted the gastroentology. The treatment for dis cyst given by the doctor was albendazole tablet for three months. Now there is no problem of the cyst. I have a doubt whether there is a connection between diarrhoea and the cyst. Again i have the diarrhoea problem. Mucus is also released now. What do I do now? Is there a permanent solution for my problem?

i had diarrhoea n doctor prescribed me to take orizin tab..once i take within 12 hours i had my lips, gum and tongue swollen and itching.i cnt sleep at night even.i had only a small amount of carbohydrate food.may i know the reason...shall i discontine using the antibiotic or still go on with it.if it becums resistant then..i took only one tab at bed time. ## Hello, Mandira! How are you? I'm very sorry about the reaction you had. If you had such swelling, it likely means that you are allergic to this medication and shouldn't take it. It contains the active ingredient Ofloxacin and its normal side effects include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Such allergic reactions usually just tend to get worse, with repeated ingestion of the culprit substance, so you n...

After a strong diarrhoea and a severe fall in potassium and sodium level the patient had a few seizures. The patient was treated in a hospital in Jan. 2010 and was advised to take encorate along with various other medicines. At that time she didn't have any remarkable physical problems. But subsequently some sort of trembling has appeared and day by day the patient seems to become depressed. All the clinical tests done for the follow-up of the treatment however seems to be normal and what more is that the concerned doctors never advise any EEG. As lay persons we are really puzzled and in doubt whether the patient is going through the proper treatment. Kindly let us know the fact.i ## It sounds like the seizures was probably brought on by severe dehydration. After such an occurrence,...

I have been taking altosec 20mg for 4 days now and its giving me diarrhoea. I see that this is one of the side effects. Should I discontinue taking it. How serious is this particular side effect. Yes I know I should contact my doctor but he is not available right now. Everyone is on holiday. Would appreciate a response. Thank u! ## Hello, Meranz! How are you? It's not considered a serious side effect, unless it's causing you severe problems, such as making you become dehydrated. How bad is the diarrhea? Are you making sure to compensate for the fluid and electrolyte loss, if it is medically safe for you to do so?

My son is 13 in a months, time weighs 48kg and is having severe cramps, has fever of 38.5 but no diarrhoea. what is the dosage for him? this has been going on since yesterday. ## Hello, Val! How is your son? I'd not suggest giving him something like this, without his doctor's approval. Children have to be doses very careful. Have you tried something like Paracetamol to help with the cramps and fever? That should be okay, if his doctor approves him taking it. Have you consulted his doctor? They'd be best able to advise you. Did he eat anything different?

I have been given forminal500 instead of glucophage, i do have diarrhoea ,and my mouth and tongue are dry and sore,i do request for advice as this is an irritating situation ## They are actually just different brand names for the same medication, they both contain Metformin. Those side effects can be normal, as reported by the FDA, you may also experience abdominal pain, flatulence and low blood sugar. What have your recent sugar levels been? Are you on any other medications? How long have you been taking it? Most side effects tend to go away, with time, once your body gets used to a medication.
