Dexedrine Dextroamphetamine

Dextroamphetamine (D-AMP)[note 1] is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant and an amphetamine enantiomer[note 2] that is prescribed for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy.[17][18] It is also used as an athletic performance and cognitive enhancer, and recreationally as an aphrodisiac and euphoriant. Dextroamphetamine was also used in the past by some countries' military forces to fig...

I was told by several Pharmacies that Dexedrine & the generic is NOT available, (on manufacturer back order, etc.), Does anyone have/not have the same problem? Please advise ## There have been a couple of other posts about this problem recently. Unfortunately, the only thing that anyone can really suggest as a solution would be for you to contact your doctor and see if there is an alternative medication you can use in the meantime. Does anyone else have any advice to add? ## I have read that the manufacturer should have all back orders filled by end of June. I had to call no less than 25 Pharmacies yesterday to fill my prescription, hopefully next months will be easier. ## I have used the Barr Dextroamphetamine for many years. I take 15mg 3x/day. I have always gotten my rx filled at...

switching from dexedrine 5mg to emsam patch 6mg 24 . for severe depression. doctor instructed 8 day washout. anyone did this before eight days long time without med except klonipin ## i assume that a "8 day washout" means not starting the emsam for 8 days after discontinuing the dexedrine. well, if your doctor said to, make sure you do. more to the point, emsam can be a wonderful drug but you really, really have to be careful because it has the potential for serious harm if used with certain pills/food. i've been on the same dose as you (6 mg patch every 24 hours) for 5 years. and the benefits have been tremendous-i spent literally 4 years trying what feels like every drug out there and none worked. but, again, it can be dangerous so avoid certain foods that can be looked up...

So I've been on adderrall or vyvanse for some years now and I seem to have an incredible tolerance. My question is to anyone who has tried both and which one worked better. If dex does are the doctors Leary in giving it out and is it as hard or harder to find pharmacies that have it? Thanks for any feedback ## Or has there been anything stronger/more effective then vyvanse or adderrall? ## It really depends on which one works best for you. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, and anorexia. Which one have you had the best luck using? Most pharmacies carry both, though they usually have a limited supply. ## My doc could no longer write Addo he gave me. Vyvanse. Not only did...

I live in Newport News Va. I have been taking Dexedrine for 20 years for narcolepsy. I took my prescription to 7 pharmacies today. No pharmacy had any. Can anyone help? ## Hi vickie, Sorry to hear about your challenges with getting this prescription filled. From an outside perspective, I think your best bet would be to contact the manufacturer in order to see which pharmacies carry their dexedrine. I get the feeling that they would know who the biggest buyers of their products are and when they intend to ship out more of a particular medication to a said pharmacy. Hopefully that information isn't considered confidential though. Other than this approach, the only recourse seems like it would be a lot calling or driving around as you've probably already been doing too much of as i...

I have been taking Dexedrine (Dextroamphetamine Sulfate XR) for 3 years now and it has always looked the same: clear and dark brown manufactured by BARR, imprinted with the same and the numbers 956. Two months ago the medication I received was blue. I was stupid and didn't think twice about it only to be called by the pharmacy and told I had been given Adderall by mistake at the end of the month. The following month my medication was back to the usual clear and brown. This month I have been given blue pills again. They gave them to me in a bottle that says "Dextroamphetamine Sulf ER 15MG" as it should, they scratched out "BARR" and wrote "Global" on the manufacturer part. The description label on the bottle says the pills should be clear and brown and imprint...

I am exceedingly pill-sensitive. Nothing works for me like the old Dexedrine by Smth, Kline, Glaxoc. Is there any place in the world to obtain and fill a prescription for it? ## Hello, Wendy! How are you? It is still available in the U.S., but you may need your doctor to write a prescription as 'brand medically necessary' and to have a pharmacy order it in for you. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, mood swings and anorexia. Has someone told you that it isn't available? ## I was told the same - my pharmacist tried to order more as I was picking up my prescription last week 'suspended indefinitely' ... I'm also extremely 'pill senstive' - ...

Why are amphetamines so difficult to get prescribed when you suffer from disabling cfs? These are the only thing that help to have a life. ## Hello, Angie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. But the reasons are due to the facts that this medication tends to be habit forming and is very commonly abused, thus most doctor's are reluctant to prescribe such stimulants. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Many people can get addicted to stimulants. Also their is a "responsibility" to maintain the person using the drugs.

Is 30 mg of dexedrine (15x15) too much in one day? ## The maximum standard daily dose of it can go up to 40mgs and in rare cases 60mgs, where a higher dose is needed to treat certain severe conditions. Learn more Dexedrine details here. However, you should stick with whatever dose your doctor has prescribed. if it isn't working, then you should contact your doctor to discuss possible solutions. Are there any other questions or comments? ## 30mg/day is not too much. The prescribed dose is not limited by fixed daily maximums but by the clinical judgment and willingness of your physician. The 40mg/day and 60mg/day maximums for dextroamphetmine sulfate were established long ago and for ADHD in children. (At the time the "experts" established these maximums, the experts also said...

My daughter has had very treatment with the prescription of dexedrine 15 mg extended release spansules for many years. Recently, a different pharmacy filled it for what turned out to be labeled as "dexedrine sulfate(salts)" and my daughter's behavior was worse. She has never tolerated adderall. That particular pharmacist said it is all the same. The other pharmacies say it isnt. Now, years later, at a pharmacy just purchased by the Kroger that supplied the adderal mix before, she has received spansules from corepharma that do not seem to match and the behavior is again intolerable. Of course the pharmacy says its just generic. How can i tell? Being so controlled its mot like i can just go get a different bottle somewhere else and i hear the se thing as others about the wareh...

Navigating the maze that is Dexedrine Generics is painfully complicated. Here are some tips. Everyone has their preference when it comes to medications like Dexedrine and Adderall. I happen to believe that the Brand Name drug is preferable to the generics, but the price is just astronomical. Dexedrine ER Capsules (Amedra) are priced at about $1300 for a bottle of # 90. The right to manufacture generic versions of the brand medication is spread among a number of companies, and changes constantly as companies are sold and resold to different holding groups. As for Generic Dexedrine: in 2010 Corepharma purchased the right to make Dexedrine from GlasxoSmithKline. CP then offered Brand Dexedrine (made by one of their divisions, Amedra) and generic Dextroamphetamine Sulfate - under the CP lab...

Why can't I get 15 mg dexedrine in Edmonton, Canada? Taking equiv. 5mg tabs are screwing up my days/nights. ## My pharmacist told me that Barr just stopped manufacturing Dexedrine. I take 10mg spansules. I live in Illinois. I can't find more info. I was given Actavis generic. They have written on label that "manufacturer is different but is exact same medicine". I dont agree there isn't a difference, and I hope there is an improvement or better choice. I actually did better with Barr generic than brand, but that's just me. But this new generic is disappointing for me. I still have some Barr left so I can very clearly feel the difference in manufacturer. ## I shall do my best to summarize, Smith Kline (USA) were the gold standard for either Instant Release Dexedri...

How much weight, per week can one expect to lose on dexedrine? ## It has successfully helped some people to lose weight. How much they lose varies and it must be combined with appropriate diet and exercise. This is a simulant medication containing Dextroamphetamine. Common side effects can include: nausea, insomnia, anorexia and headache. Does anyone else have experience using this medication? ## I am taking prescribed Dextroamphetamine but cannot afford to lose any weight, which I am doing. Are there any helpful hints anyone can offer me. A Dietitian is attempting to help, but without success. I have been taking Adderall IR (Barr) 2 - 20mg 2x a day 80mg total per day for the past 3 yrs. My Doctor changed it to Dextroamp-Amphet ER 20 Mg caps same dosage 80mg total per day. I've been getting constant headaches, neck pain, I'm falling asleep in the middle of the day. I heard a lot about Dexedrine and how it acts the same as Adderall with out these side effects? If so, should i ask my doctor ? Would the same dosage work for me? ## There is no medication that actually works without side effects, some people are just fortunate and don't experience them. How long have you been taking the new formulation that's time released? Learn more Adderall details here. It may simply be a matter of your body needing to get used to it. ## The active drug in dexedrine is dextro-am...

Hi all. I have been taking 30mg/day generic dexedrine IR tablets for 7 years now, and while I've seen a shortage happen occasionally it's always passed eventually. I picked up my prescription yesterday and found the pharmacy had given me ER capsules instead of IR tablets. Its a new-ish pharmacy for me so I figured it was a mistake, but when I asked them about it they told me that the generic IR tabs were discontinued entirely. Is this true? I'm located in California in the US. ## @swiftly, From what I've researched, Dextrostat (which is referred to by some as a "generic" for Dexedrine) was reportedly discontinued by Shire Richwood in 2003. NOTE: the actual generic name is Dextroamphetamine, which seems to still be available from the following manufacturers in bot...

I have been on Adderall 30 mg BID for years but can only take the COR generic and in my area all we have is Barr. I had a very bad emotional recation to it. My doctor switched me last month to Ritalin 20mg BID. I feel tired and like I am on Xanax all the time. So now he is going to switch me to Dexedrine. I am so fustrated because my Adderall work perfect. Has anyone been in this situation or can let me know if Dexedrine is more like my adderall then the Ritalin???? ## Did you try asking a pharmacy to order the one manufactured by Core for you? They can usually do so, but your insurance will only pay the cheapest generic price, so if it costs $10 more, then you would have to pay the additional $10. Learn more Adderall details here. I have an appointment with my psychiatrist this week and I plan to tell him about Amneal's discontinuation of Generic Dexedrine ER. That was the only authorized generic I could find, and the only version which worked for me. Now that I can't get it, should I request an IR version, or is there something more appropriate? I realize my doctor is the best person to ask, but I'd like to know what to ask for heading into the appointment. Thanks in advance! ## Have you tried Vyvanse? It's a great medication to treat ADHD. There's also Mydayis that's supposedly a great medication, as well. ## Amneal also makes brand Dexedrine Spansules. I currently take Adderall IR 20MG twice daily. My question is this: How many MG of Dexedrine IR would be equal to Adderall IR 20MG? How do you convert Adderall IR 20MG to Dexedrine IR 20MG? ## Hello, James! How are you? Usually, these medications are considered equivalent in dosages, so a 20mg dose of one would require a 20mg dose of the other to be therapeutically equivalent. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, weight loss, irritability, and other mood changes. What dosage your doctor recommend? ## The old name for the dexedrine IR was called dextrostat. The dexedrine does not last as long but has a much smoother taper IMHO. The doses are for most intent and purposes similar. I woul...

I usually use CVS, but the pharmacist told me that their wholesaler does not carry Zenzedi. Those who take this medication, what pharmacy do you use? The only mom and pop pharm in my town said it was too expensive to order, but that chains that use a certain wholesaler different than the one CVS uses would be able to get it. I am not asking about (the vastly inferior, IME) various generics of dextroamphetamine IR. Been there, hated it. Zenzedi 15 mgs works for my ADHD-C and narcolepsy the way brand-name Adderall IR used to when it was manufactured by Shire, before it was taken off patent and the original formula changed. I am having similar trouble finding brand name Dexedrine Spansules (manufactured by Amedra and Amneal). I do not find the generic by Actavis/Teva supplied by all the ph...
