Degenerative Disc Disease

My son is 33 years old and just diagnosed with degenerative bone disease and spinal stenosis. He was addicted to pain pills for 7 years and has been clean for 2 years. My greatest fear is him having to take pain med's. Are there any that are not addictive? He had such a hard time coming off and staying off. ## Hello, Molly! How are you? Yes, actually there are. Some of the antiseizure medications, as well as some antidepressants, can treat pain and they aren't addictive, at all. He just needs to see a doctor and be honest about the problems he's had in the past, so they can explore what treatment options would be safest for him. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## What is done for treating or managing the problem of Degenerative Disc Disease?

Works great for pain however......Has anyone noticed that this pill works excellent to stop allergies? No more sneezing congestion or runny nose. Anyone? Or just me? My doc thinks I'm lying. ## Hello, Lovely! How are you? Rather than actually relieving your allergies, you might just be experiencing the side effect of the opiate drying the mucosa. They are actually very well known to do that and without that extra moisture causing irritation, it would also make sense that your sneezing would stop. The FDA classifies this as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. So, it isn't that it would really be alleviating your allergies, it's just preventing such a se...

I have been taking hydrocodone for ddd and bulging disc.went to a new dr who prescribed skelaxin instead of hydrcodone. will this help? ## It may help some, but it is not a narcotic, so I am doubtful you will get the same pain relief you did from the Hydrocodone. Skelaxin contains the active ingredient Metaxalone, which is a muscle relaxant, so it will only help with pain that is caused by muscle cramping and spasms. Common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and headache. Learn more: Did he say why he made the switch? ## the reply you got was right on, it is not a pain reliever, or pain killer! it is a skeletal muscle relaxer. i have Fibromyaglia and 6 bulging discs. my lowerest discs need the norco to knock out the pain no muscle relaxer including soma has EVER hel...

Can taking methamphetamine cause a sudden acute attack of painful sciatica and degenerative disc disease? I was fine when I went to bed but woke up with it and could not walk and was crippled with unbearable pain that's continued for a month and is still going on. Dr. prescribed neurontin which doesn't help at all. Help with medication suggestions please! ## I'm very sorry to hear about your debilitating side effects. From what I've been reading online, many of the symptoms associated with Methamphetamine use are often considered to be sudden and in some cases severe. This drug literally destroys from the inside out (lowering your body's immunity/resistance to illness in general); so I wouldn't say it's not possible to become crippled on methamphetamine, even...

Looking for a pain management dr that is willing to prescribe medications for degenerative disc disease. Within 100-150 miles of Ocean City MD. ## I am looking for a minnesota pain physician that will agree to listen to what works for my pain and doesn't make me feel like i am being judged and questioned about my pain. i need a dr willing to prescribe methadone at a low dose to control addictive issues and long term pain, and oxycodone 15 mg 6-8 a day together, without making me get off the methadone liquid that i am taking. i plan to go back to a good pain dr and hopefully explain that after certain amount of methadone is administered other pain meds wont work for my pain unless at higher than normal doses of oxycodone, with low dose methadone and added oxycodone quick release for ...

I have degenerative disc disease and have taken opana ir and er for a while. My doctor has changed me to morphine since opana has left the market temporarily. I do not like the morphine. Could someone out there recommend something comparable to opana er 40 and ir 20 ## Opana is actually back on the market, though still in limited quantities in some areas, so you may want to have your doctor's office check with your local pharmacies to see who has it in stock, so you can go back to it. It was actually just a temporary shortage, while they were reformulating the tablets to help prevent abuse. Are there any other questions or comments? ## The opana er with the new plastic coating does not work as it once did. It is very hard to digest. Why is so much plastic coating necessary...I am no...

Have severe degenerative disc disease. I recieve fyntinal patch and 10-325 hydrocodone and this has been ongoing 10years or so. I have learned not all hydrocodone is the same and that using the same hydrocodone loses its effect but changing the generic hydricodone manufacturer can help keep the effects of the medication working at its peak. ## Hi roro, Sorry to hear about your condition. It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what works for you and what doesn't after being on these for 10 years. No one can argue that. However in my opinion, you're proposed theory on hydrocodone having more profound effects when you change manufacturers is debatable depending on which manufacturer you get. Often times the differentiating inactive ingredients play a role in how well one bra...

I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my neck, severe end stage arthritis in my right elbow and chronic ulner nerve pain in my right hand, I am on 240 mg of morphine and 2700mg of gabapentin a day, my problem is the sleepiness It causes me, I can hardly function on these meds which also cause me to sweat profusely causing me to change my clothes 2 or more times a day, what can I do to reduce the drowsiness? ## Hello, Del! How are you? Unfortunately, there really isn't much that can be done about either side effect, other than perhaps switching to a different medication. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation....

I have degenerative disc disease of the neck and back with cracks in my neck and 3 bulging discs also in my neck. I also have fibromyalgia and at the moment a broken ankle. I'm having the worst time trying to find a pain management specialist who prescribes pain medicine anymore. They have different guidelines now where they don't even prescribe anything for you. Does anyone know of a good pain management specialist who doesn't give a crap about the DEA or follows the guidelines but if someone needs the pain medication they will actually give the pain medication? Some doctors are actually turning cancer patients down now! I know the DEA has guidelines but I don't even think they meant for the doctors to do that. They're just thinking about losing their license if they p

I had back surgery for degenerative disc disease in November,1997 to relieve excruciating severe lower back pain. The neurosurgeon implanted a Bak-Cage, *L3,4 and 5*, Unfortunately the surgery was not a success which simply disabled me, I had no other alternative, I now rely on Social Security and I live my life in 'Chronic' extreme back pain, thankfully there are medications that can help. After my surgery, I began seeing a phyciaciatrist and he has been my doctor ever since. I was placed on OxyContin for a short time. Then I then was prescribed morphine. Morphine did not help my pain whatsoever, in fact I was just a miserable zombie. I was then placed on Lorcet 10/750 until the FDA put restrictions on the amount of Acetominiphine. My doctor still prescribed me lorcet 10/650 eve...

I'm Kevin, I have bulging discs, degenerative disease, had an mri that showed this. My question is where in Goldsboro, NC can I find a doctor or pain clinic that will prescribe pain meds as I'm opposed to surgery? ## Had surgery and am still dealing with pain. Are there any methadone doctors in or around Guilford county NC that can help me with pain? It just seems like that if you're trying to get pain meds, they think you're an addict. Not everyone is a drug addict. ## I have had hip, leg and knee replacements; also back surgery but cant find a doctor to prescribe me my pain meds in monroe, north carolina. ## Seeing a number of people with a similar problem im having, can anyone give me an answer about a dr. Have chronic degenerative disc disease; buprenorphine makes bile rise. Vicodin (Narco) works now since I took it over 12 yrs ago. I recently left my CP doc because he refused to prescribe adequate pain meds. Am looking authentic pain med doc/clinic in Boulder CO who will believe how much pain I'm in without my having to cry. ## A new dr will want to get a copy of your medical records from your previous dr. You crying won't convince a dr you're in pain.

As a brief background - I have very advanced Degenerative Disc Disease, along with bad arthritis/spurs/nerve damage - all in my neck. 5 of the 7 discs are in terrible shape - I've been told by several doctors that it is very advanced for my age (34). I've been through a great deal of pain management including massage therapy, physical therapy, chiropractors, injections and procedures on my neck. Not a whole lot has helped and I'm trying to avoid surgery. For approximately 12 months the pain was managed by my pain management doctor on short acting oxycodone (30mg 3 times per day). Wasn't the best schedule, especially long term, to manage the pain. So I made the decision to get off that dose schedule by switching to suboxone. Exactly 1 month ago I switched to suboxone, tak...

I have chronic back pain, my husband dd. If have discovered degenerative disease, it a lifetime of but oxycontin makes me sick. People tell me it would help too try peracdan or percacet ## Hello, Pam! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. Both of the medications you mentioned contain Oxycodone, Percodan couples it with Aspirin and Percocet couples it with Acetaminophen, so if Oxycodone makes you sick, you may also want to stay away from them. Vicodin might be a better choice, it contains Acetaminophen and Hydrocodone. It's an idea you would ask your doctor about, anyway. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. In 2005 I was diagnosised with a compressed disc and degenerative back disease and I also had developed some arthritis. I started taking Flex Protex and immediately got pain relief for the arthritis. As I continued to take it I started to notice that the back pain had lessened. I am now pain free in my lower back and can pick up all my grandkids. I believe that product grew back the cartliage in my back. I don't see why it wouldn't help with knee and hip pain, also. I recommend it to people all the time but a lot of people just tell me that they are too far gone. I really feel sorry for them because I know that Flex Protex works. It took about a year for all my back pain to be gone but it was wonderful when it left. Nothing is going to be an over night fix so don't listen to...

Here is the deal. I have a herniated disc and degenerative disc disease. I have had physical therapy, chiropractor and epidural steroid injections. I am a Kaiser patient. I am taking Morphine ER 15 mg 4 times a day with percocet 5 mg 3 times a day for breakthrough. I ran out of meds early last month because i went camping and lost the bottle that had a weeks worth of meds inside. I don't take the entire bottle with me when I travel, just what I need while I'm gone. I did not tell my doctor that I lost the meds. My doctor gave me a script that was dated for 6/25 (tomorrow). Last week I was out of town for our annual week long vacation. While I was there (in the same state, but 3 hours from home) I went to an urgent care with my empty script bottles and the urgent care doctor gave...
