I have been taking this for about 5 months now and I love it. I have always been small, around 105 pounds. I am at 129 now and loving it. It has increased my breast, and my butt and legs. Be careful because it will (the weight) will go to other places like your arms and stomach. Once you first start taking it, my experience is that it will make you SO Sleepy but once your body gets use to it the sleep will wear off. Is Periactin safe to increase weight? Is that effect permanent weight gain or only as long as i take it? ## Periactin, which contains the active ingredient Cyproheptadine is an antihistamine, normally used to treat allergies. And, just like any medication, it does have risks and side effects, so no, just using it in attempt to gain weight is not considered safe. It can cause an increased appetite in some people, which sometimes causes them to gain some weight, however, it is usually not significant and the effects don't continue, when someone stops the medication. In addition, any method of gaining weight artificially, that doesn't involve a healthy diet and exercise can have severe detrimental effects on your health. I'm 17 and the doctor told me I had gallstones, and so I've literally been eating foods with no fat, non greasy, and it caused my weight to deteriorate dramatically. I wasn't pleased at my weight at all. And so I did some research and found out about periactin bin on the pill for a month and the results are amazing!!! I have been off and on the medication since 2001. The only time I get off of it because I gain so much weight.. But as soon as I get of the meds, I loose weight and fast.. Really my Dr placed me on this med because I had a poor eating habit (maybe one meal a day).. But now I am back on the pill bc I have lost to much weight in my book... I took 52 mgs of cyproheptadine in one dose. I didn't know it caused weight gain. I don't want to gain weight just wanted to sleep. If I stop now will I still gain the unwanted weight?
