Please explain the meaning of medication half life.Brother was prescribed oxycodon 20mg every 8 hrs. Then decided to take instead 1/2 tablet every 4 hrs and it really did terrible things to him.For three days he was awake and moving;argumentive;and unaware of what was actually going on.Thought pattern was totally disorgqanized.Since the tiny pills are not scored I finally made it clear to him they are not to be cut in half and he is not to change the prescription instructions ever. ## If they are extended release they can NOT be cut in half. Death can occur. Once they are cut, the layering that allows the medication to be slowly released is all dumped into the system. Quoted " Do NOT break, alter, chew, dissolve, or split OxyContin sustained-release tablets. Doing so may cause the r... ...

Is it ok to cut a v 48 11 in half? And also will it be ok to do normal activities after I take a half? ## Anyone??? ## Come on ## Hi kay, Usually if there is a score line (divid) embedded into the tablet, it means the manufacturer purposely made it so patients could easily cut it in half. Since this particular tablet is scored, I would personally feel safe doing so. Regarding your concerns about doing normal activities afterwards, there's really no way to know ahead of time how this medication is going to effect you (since it really can effect each person differently). Taking half seems like a good place to start though, if you want to assess how your body reacts/responds to a smaller dose of it, before committing to the full amount. Some people may feel like their abilities to perf... ...

oxycodone 15 mg-can I cut in half for half dose
1 Reply RSS
I need to know if I can cut my 15mg oxycodone pills in half (they are light green with 15 on one side and M in a box on the other side). The pills are scored, which makes me think that I can safely cut them in half. I don't want the full 15mg dose, would prefer only 7.5 by cutting in half if possible. ## Yes, this is a regular release Oxycodone, the generic for Roxicodone, so you can safely cut them in half. The only time it isn't safe is if a medication is time released, or there are instructions specifically saying not to do so, because some medications can cause severe stomach irritation and other problems if released too fast, such as Potassium tablets. You may experience side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and dry mouth. Read more: Are there any questions o... ...

I have a 7.5 oxycodone with acetaminophen U16 on the pill. I need to know if I can cut this in half. I have looked everywhere to see if it is IR or XR and cant find a thing. ## It's IR, and yes it can be cut in half ## thanks ash, I appreciate the response. Usually well it seems they used to say if the pill was immediate release or timed release. I looked everywhere but i hoped that somebody out there takes it. Now I can take 1/2 when i am not in too much pain. ## No problem i had them a few times. Not my favorite. Actually fought with riteaid - they didnt work to well for me, however, they took over watson brand ## Well I hope that is not a problem for me but i have one friend that agrees with you. I'm taking 5 mg of oxycodone 2x's a day. Can I split the pink oxycodone 10 mg hcl k 56 in half and use up extra tablets that I have in hand? In other words, I don't think these are extended release tablets so it should be okay to split them. Input appreciated. thanks. ## Hello, Allan! How are you? Yes, the only time released one available are the name brand Oxycontin, so this is a regular release tablet which can be cut in half, unless your doctor or pharmacist gives you some reason not to do so. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Can I cut the little pink round oxycodone in half, bc taking it whole is to much. It says k 52 on the pill ## Hello, Rachel! How are you? Did you mean the one with the K56 marking? If so, it is manufactured by KVK Tech and they list as containing 10mgs of Oxycoodone in a regular release formulation, so yes, it can safely be cut, if your doctor approves of you lowering your dosage. The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ...

Thus yes, they can be cut, if your doctor approves. Hello, I live in Waldorf Maryland I was seeing a wonderful doctor until he passed away. I was getting 90 30mg pills until I changed it to 120 15mg. ( I know what your thinking but I didn't want to have to cut it in half when I needed less ). Because of all the crap associated with anyone taking an narcotic I'm having an extreme issue with finding another doctor. For years I saw this sweet old man and filled them in the office pharmacy I had no idea there was this much of a stigma about the pain drug and the people that take them. If anyone knows of a doctor that I could talk to that dose not give people the run around. ## HI, Gail! Sorry about the problem that you're having. Hello, I just found this forum. First off... I live in eastern kentucky and am wondering if anyone could give me some advice. My doctor just suddenly passed away and has left all of his patients with no way to get their prescriptions. It was a private practice with no other doctors working with him, just a NP to assist. I've been on the same medication ... same dose same amount for years with no issues as far as drug panels or anything. I've undergone multiple procedures and surgeries as well. I am a legit chronic pain patient with multiple health problems and I need a new doctor. I went to 1 doctor whose PA saw me, he didn't assess me, refused my medical records, cut my medication dosage to way less than even half of what Ive been on for years. He told me the doctor had alr... ...

does anybody know how much a 5 milligram oxycodone cost ## Hi da! Off the streets, usually a dollar per milligram. Cheaper by prescription. ## @da, Based on my research, a quantity of 30 oxycodone 5mg pills from the pharmacy may cost an 'estimated' $20 (cash out-of-pocket) without the presence of insurance or savings cards. However, discount cards tend to make these tablets a lot cheaper when you go the legal route; often times cutting the cost in half. So that may be something to factor into consideration if you are getting them from a retail pharmacy. You might even want to call them up first just to verify the total before moving forward. I hope this helps! ...

He is on medicare w/a supplement incl part d however he is now in the medication gap making this a very expensive rx. Anyone know of any assistance resources ? ## @grannychoas, This site actually offers a drug discount card that can reportedly save you anywhere from 15% to 75% off your Rx, potentially cutting the cost by more than half. You can view more details about it on the following page: RX Savings Card Just print out that card for your husband and have him bring it whenever he goes to fill a prescription. At that point the pharmacy should be able to determine how much of a discount he'll receive. I'd be curious to know if the percenta... ...

It is blank on other side. There is a score mark. Someone said hydrocodone another said oxycodone. ## Are there any markings on it, or just the score? If there are no markings, it can be ruled out as being a U.S. manufactured and approved prescription medication, because they are all required to have markings to enable their identification. However, it could be any one of a large number of over the counter products and there is also a small chance that it could be a foreign medication. can i cut a oxycontin 30mg half

I have been on oxycodone 30mg for about 6 months now, its time for my refill and my pharmacy is having trouble keeping them in stock. I was givin 2 oxycontin 30mg op by a friend. But from all the bad reviews on the oxycontin im not sure i want to take the whole 30. Is cutting it in half safe? Will it be the same as taking 15mg? ## No, it is not safe to cut or break Oxycontin tablets. This is a time released formulation of the medication, so doing so could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once, which may result in overdose. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Op 20 Pill Pink - cutting in half?
2 Replies RSS
Is it possible to at least cut these in half in order to take a lower doseage? ## These are time released tablets and, even though they have tried to formulate them to prevent it, cutting them in half could still result in your getting too much of the medication released, at once. The Oxycodone in this is a very potent narcotic analgesic and getting too much at once could be very dangerous. If you require a lower dosage, you should contact your doctor, as they can prescribe them in a lower amount. Are there any other questions? ## I have cut these into quarters with no adverse affects. So it is basically become a 5mg dose. I like these because they do not contain acetaminophen like most other narcotic prescriptions. So one pill can last me up to 2 days. ...

I was on oxy's for 4 years and then I switched over to morphine sulfate 60s. AT one time I was on 14- 30mg oxycodone a day. When my doctor retired and I went to a pain center they immediately cut my dosage in half. At that time he started me on 100mg MS 2x a day. Now I'm completely off oxys and only take 2- 60mg MS a day. Looking back I realize the only reason I took the oxys was for that initial high and warm feeling. ## I'm very sorry about what happened to you, but am glad you've found the right medication to help you.
