I've been on morphing 15 mg for 9 years at 4 times a day . witch would equal to 60 MG's. A day and now they decided to put me on 30 milligrams time release twice a day . is this still the same thing or different and how ## Hello, Blackbetty! How are you? The time released can give some people better pain control, since it is slowly released over the 12 hour dosing period. That is the only difference. And no, you can't cut or break them, because that could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. They must be swallowed whole. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ##...

round blue ## My Dr. gave me morphine cr for Fibromyalgia. What will it feel like? I'm nervous about taking it. ## If you have taken other narcotics, then you will feel the same effects, though Morphine is very strong. In case you haven't, you can expect to feel drowsy, possible nausea, dry mouth and experience constipation. ## my dr, gave me morphine cr 15 mg. but this is too strong for me. can i use a pill cutter? ## Good and out of pain ## My rheumatologist gave duloxetine for fibromyalgia. I've had 1 flare in more than a year, so it's worked well without all the possible side effects of morphine. Just a thought for you unless you've already tried it. Good luck to you. ## Don't cut CR tablets. They have a coating on them to prevent the full dose from you g int...

Can I overdose on 1 30mg ER morphine tablet? i weigh 173 lbs if that atters. i have nver taken anything stronger then a hydro 10 and kinda scared to take this medicine. ## I'm not personally aware of the difference in potency from Hydrocodone to Morphine, but I wouldn't suggest taking anything that puts a scare in you like that. If it's too strong it's too strong and your best bet would be to start off with a smaller dose (cut in half perhaps to assess your tolerance). To answer your question though, I don't believe you can overdose on 1 tablet, but you may or may not experience some very undesirable side effects if your body is not used to it. Unfortunately the only way to find out is to try it. I would just suggest a smaller dose to start off. I hope this advice he...

I am trying to decrease the pain meds I am taking. I was taking one 30mg tab twice daily. Recently I forgot and skipped a dose felt fine, I realized it had a half life but I was ok. So I've been at that dose for three day s and I'm still ok. Should I continue with 30mg once a day or should I cut one in half and take it twice a day. I thought I read that ER pills should not be cut. Is this true. Thank you ## That is correct, it is not safe to cut time released tablets, that could result in your getting too much medication, at once, and it could result in an overdose. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. However, you can speak to your doctor about tap...

I have been taking 60 mg of morphine a day for about two weeks now. I want to stop completely but l cannot afford to go through withdrawals being that l have two jobs. Can you please tell me how to wean myself off? I really do not want to take them anymore l know l will just become more addicted to them. Can l cut my doseage down over a period of time until l stop completely? Please help! ## Hello, Natalie! How are you? Yes, a slow taper is usually best to minimize withdrawal symptoms, but you should follow your doctor's instructions for the best results. The FDA lists the typical withdrawal symptoms as possibly including nausea, fever, chills, rebound pain, drowsiness and diarrhea. However, if you're taking the time released tablets, you can't actually cut them, because tha...

A 50mg morphine patch has been prescribed by an oncologist and is too strong for my uncle who has terminal stomach cancer. Is it o.k. to cut the patch in half? He is not in pain but is like a zombie. ## Hello, Christine! How is your uncle? No, that could result in his getting too much of the medication at once, which risks an overdose. How long has he been using them? The zombie like effect should improve, as his body gets used to the medication. But if it continues longer than a few weeks, then he should consult his doctor. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## You can fold part of the patch under just don't breach the seal this is how the weekend yo...

Ok, I just cut a 15 mg Extended release in quarters and took 2 quarters and now I'm freaking out after reading all these do not do thats! Help!! What now? ## Did you suffer any adverse effects? There is a risk of overdose in people who are not opiate tolerant, when they cut or break a time released tablet, because they could end up getting too much of the medication, at once. The FDA says to watch for symptoms such as extreme dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and shallow breathing.

If a 15mg. morphine E. R. were cut & taken into half of a half would that harm a person? ## Hello, Ariel! How are you? No, you cannot cut, break or crush the time released tablets, that could cause you to get more of the medication, at once, which may result in a dangerous overdose. 2 100mg morphine sulf er a day. Is that alot? ## yea thats alot . i was taking 3 had been for yrs changed me to pain management and he starting cutting all my meds in half. think they are doing me some kind of favor. yea right . wish he had a good dose of my problems and pain. I've been in pain longer than this ass has been alive. ## I was on 130mg's of the morphine sulfate every 12 hours. When I accidentally took two and called the poison control line they told me that 200mg's was the highest they prescribe anyone and that's on their death bed. Now they have medication that is stronger but they can only safely prescribe so much morphine without destroying or damaging your organs. But I'm pretty sure that the highest they go on the extended release morphine is 200mg ...

Can I take Tylenol p.m with morphine I had a morphine 30 I cut it n to 4ths and took a fourth then waited a hour and took another can I take 2 Tylenol p.m too? ## What formulation of Morphine are you taking? If it is the time released formulation, you should not be cutting it, because that creates the risk of your getting too much of the medication at once, which might result in overdose. The FDA warns that Morphine carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. As to taking it with the Tylenol PM, they can both cause sedation, so you may experience more dizziness and drowsiness than usual, thus it would be best to check with your doctor, before adding it, to make sure it is safe for you to do so. Is t...

I have a spinal stimulate with two leads in my back for damaged nerves, mostly on the left side. During back surgery the left side lead was cut, which not only cause more pain for the recovery but was not discovered for 2 weeks. Because of Christmas nothing can be done until Jan.19,2017. Tylenol 4 does ok but it does not last very long, certainly not one every 8 hours. The doctor wants to switch me to morphine 15mg every 8 hours. I do not want to hurt from now until surgery, but I do to want to have a difficult time getting off meds after surgery. I am ready to be well, happy and back to my normal life. Could you detail the differences between the two drugs and the after effects that will have to be over come after surgery in Jan. ## Rose, Happy New Years to you. It's very admirable...

I just learned that a friends, yes seriously a friend, has for the last nine days taken a half of a 15mg extended relief morphine every day and was planning to intermittently take a whole one to hopefully avoid withdrawal. My friend is doing this because my friend is going on vacation and his prescription becomes due during the time he is away. Our state has instituted "drug contracts" with the prescribing doctor and pharmacy for people using these types of drugs. This means he can not have it filled early to take with him, and his doctors office has rules about calling for the script 48 hours maximum before it is due. He was only trying to make it last so he would not be in as much pain and not go through withdrawal. I was concerned because I know you are not supposed to cut an...

can a morphine so4 15 mg, sa tablet be cut in half? ## Hello, William! How are you? No, you cannot cut them. The SA stands for sustained action, which means it is a time released formulation and cutting or breaking it could cause you to get too much of the medication at once. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. My dr. has been giving me 30 mg morphine immediate release for several years. I just had my prescription filled and noticed that my new ones say SR.I'm sure it was a mistake and my dr. and I never had any discussion about it. The pharmacy is closed now but I need my medicine. So since I am used to the 30 mg IR already, why would it hurt to crush or cut open the same amount of mg in SR? I can't wait until the pharmacy opens again tomorrow afternoon. ## Theoretically your reasoning makes good sense, and in light of that I don't see why it would hurt to do so. However, for the sake of taking it as prescribed, only your doctor can legally tell you what you should or should not do to achieve a certain level of pain relief. While I personally wouldn't cut any time-released med...
