I am an athlete and I was diagnosed with a DVT a year ago, after waiting 5 hours at the emergency with a broken arm. I took coumadin for 3months, 5mg, the same year. Now I still train and I am very active. However, my blood pressure raised quickly and severely in the past months. My doctor doesn't know the cause. I talked with the specialist who gave the prescription of coumadin and he told me that it's possible due to the use of the medication. He told me that some people end up with high blood pressure and some with other complications. THIS MEDICATION IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! TRY TO AVOID IT! IT'S POISON... Opt for other medications. ## Thanks for the heads up on this medication. There seem to be many discussion threads here relating to the issues people were having with i...

About two months ago I broke three metatarsal in my right foot. I have been using a scooter and non weight bearing since. Early on, day 8 I had what felt like a Charlie horse that wouldn't go away. Went in and found a blood clot in my calf, a DVT. Since then I have been on Coumadin. I first went a few times a week to be checked and now once a week. I eat the same thing and have specifically avoiding drinking and foods high in vitamin K. My current INR is 3.7 and I know that is high. It has been higher previously and want to make sure I am not having internal bleeding or some other side effect. Currently I am experiencing headaches (not the worst in life, but constant), mild dizziness, general lack of energy and past few nights slept foe 10+hours. I don't want to go to the ER if ...

I am on Coumadin, and am in the middle of an IBS attack.....I'm wondering if Gas-X affects the Coumadin level or is it safe to take while on it??? I'm not going in for a pro-time for the Coumadin for another week, so would really like an answer. ## Coumadin contains the active ingredient Warfarin, it is most commonly used a blood thinner. There aren't any interactions listed for it when taken with Gas-X, but this site is not medical professionals, so you should double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be certain. You can read more about this medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## I want to take gasx being on warfarin not not if it a problem.

I have terrible pain and cannot take any pain Rx due to the coumadin I am on....they all cause the blood to thin more and could cause bleeding ## I have had 2 bouts with pulmonary embolisims and am on coumadin for life. I have been perscribed and have had no problems with LORTABS for pain. This is the only pain med reccomended by my pulmonoligist and I have had no problems with it when needed. ## I want to reply, being on coumadine for 5months, and i am on approximately 600mg of per day and fentanyl patches{3ea 100mcg/hr) every 3days, which will be changed to every 2days. Can you take Coumadin along with Cream of Tartar and Sulfur tablets? My mother was told there was an old time remedy to purify blood and get rid of ulcers/sores. I actually found a place that sells the tablets and was also told by them they work wonders for people with sores, etc. She has sores on her legs due to improper blood flow and a blood clot for which she is taking Coumadin. She is also going to ask her doctor before doing this holistic treatment but thought I would also ask a professional. Thank you. PS: she is not diabetic. ## I'm not a doctor, or a pharmacist, I will state that up front. As to possible interactions, I think asking her doctor would be best. I can't find anything that will allow me to check the Coumadin with Cream of Tartar. I have a resource that check...

I've been on coumadin since 2001 when I had a dvt and have had no problem with it...ever. Now, my doctor wants me to try xarelto, I'm scared. Should I stay on coumadin or make the switch? Thanks!! ## Well, in this case, what I'd suggest doing is going to your doctor and discussing it with them. Schedule a consultation, so you can have a sit down chat about it and ask them why they want you to make the switch, specifically what benefits do they see you getting from the new medication that you don't get with the old. It is really the best way to calm your fears and get the precise details you need that will enable you to make an informed decision regarding what the best choice is for you. what are the differences of taking coumadin or aspirin to prevent blood clots ## Coumadin is a much stronger and more reliably tested prescription medication. You should follow your doctor's advice on which one is best for you. ## Verwon, thank you for your reply. My sister is the one that has the problem and she had asked me to look this question up on my computer for her. She is following her doctor's orders, but she still has questions as she doesn't like how she feels taking the coumadin. ## There are many people who don't like Coumadin, there are other options she could speak to her doctor about, Aspirin and Plavix are two of them.

Been on Coumadin for 22 years no problems.... Insurance wants me to take Warfarin. Doctors prefer brand name because I am the first person in the US with four artificial heart valves. Afraid to make the switch but price is very high on pension. Really don't want to switch. Afraid. Any thoughts. Would like some doctors to respond. ## Dear Kathy, Judging from your unique and isolated circumstance, it sounds like it would be best to try and stay on what you know already works. There's an old sayin' that says, "don't try to fix what isn't broken" - and it sounds like insurance companies will try to do just that by forcing you onto something different based on their own personal preference instead of what's logically sound. But If insurance isn't going to ...

My mom was on coumadin for many years but then her insurance company told her she had to take warfarin as this is the one they would pay for. Is there really any different in these two drugs? It seems to me that she has been having more problems with the warfarin (keeping this medication at the right level) than the coumadin. I was told they were the same medications and do the same. I just wanted to know if some people have difficulties taking warfarin vs coumadin??? Thanks. ## No, they work exactly the same for me. I have been taking one or the other for 3 1/2 years because of 2 pulmonary embolisms. I take 10mg a day. At times I go up and down but have been steady for a couple months now on warfarin. Food will change the way it works. Salads and some other greens really mess things up...

My mother began taking Coumadin 2 wks ago. Her INR was 1.9 today, so it's progressing well toward a therapeutic level. Her doctor also increased the dosage of Metropolol when he added Coumadin. She reports that she's been feeling tired and "out of sorts" the past 2 days. She even took a nap today, which is unheard of! Does Coumadin cause generalized weakess and fatigue initially? ## Hello, Dee! How is your mom doing? To be honest, I'm more inclined to think that her symptoms are do to the higher dose of Metoprolol, it's very well known to cause such side effects. Others, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache and increased urination. Coumadin's typical side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding...

what is the effect of alanerv to people taking coumadine? Is it safe? ## ALAnerv is a nutritional supplement that contains multivitamins. Generally, when you are on a blood thinner you are supposed to avoid Vitamin K and this doesn't contain, but I'd suggest double checking this information with your doctor or pharmacist, before taking it. Are there any other questions?

I have a sinus infection and was prescribed clamoxin. Please advise whether or not clamoxin and coumadin are safe when taken together? ## According to FDA warnings, taking them together may increase your risk of bleeding, so you should only do so if your doctor is aware that you are taking both medications, and is frequently monitoring your INR. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are there any other questions?

I would like to know why the drug Coumadin is being discontinued? I am from Trinidad WI and I have been informed that the drug is no longer being manufactured. I would like to know what is the reason for this and what are people like myself who have been on it for 22 years to do or take in instead? ## I would like to know where you got the info it is being discontinued? Please? ## The drug kills people. My mother died while taking it. And I lost a good friend who was 48 years old. ## Coumidin is not being discontinued. I have been on it for 1 yr and my numbers cannot get set and kept right. I jump from high to low and can't stay in the middle. But there is a new drug out. You take 2 pills a day 12 hours apart and no more blood testing. I am searching now for the medication as it is....

Getting conflicting info on cranberry juice or AZO tablets and Coumadin. Don't want my 83 yr. old mother to get another UTI. Just got out of hospital from having one. Can't decided if it's ok to give her cranberry juice while taking Warfarin. ## So far, clinical studies have shown no danger in consuming cranberry products, while taking Warfarin, but it's always best to double check with one's doctor to be sure. The FDA classifies Coumadin as a blood thinner and its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and easy bruising. Is there anything else I can help with?

Why does a doctor put a patient on coumadin? I was put on it after developing a blood clot after aneurysm surgery. And have been on it for lmost two years. ## Coumadin is a medication that thins out your blood, so that you will not have any blood clots happen. It's a very good medication. Just be VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CUT YOURSELF, reason being is that since your blood is thinned out you will bleed more and its takes longer to stop the bleeding. Also you will bruise yourself a lot faster too if you bump into something. You should always ask your Dr. why he/she is giving you this medication and any others and also have them explain it to you so that you fully understand and you can always ask a pharmacist about any and all medications. Also you did'nt say how many mg you are taking...

I was diagnozed in Feb with a-fib. Started taking Multaq at that time. So far I have refused Coumadin. Have had some minor episodes lasting about 1/2 hour with rates @ 100-150 and increased BP. Will meet with my Cardio Doctor tomorrrow. Is there anybody out there who cna tell me how they aredoing with Multaq and NO coumadin> ## About four months ago I went into total heart block and they implanted a pacemaker. I continued to have severe A-Fib and Atrial flutter. I told my cardiologist that I could not live with the A-Fib and he started me on Multaq, BID. From the get go I couldn't believe how well it worked. Of course, if I didn't have a pacemaker this particular drug probably would not have been prescribed.
