I am an 18 year old healthy male with no previous ear infections, only the odd cold. I've had the symptoms of Otitis Media with Effusion, OME, a buildup of fluids in the middle ear and eustachian tube, causing pressure behind the eardrum - feeling of having blocked ears, slight balance problems and headaches etc - but have only just recently become annoying and I got a diagnosis of it. The doctor prescribed corticoides to inhale, which he said should take effect within a couple weeks, and if not, adenoidectomy is a possibility. My question is could this problem have been caused by my occasional smoking over the last six months? I never touched an industrial cigarette, only joints and narghile (hookah). And at a rate of only two or three evenings a month. Basically I only rarely smok...
