Hi. I was on contrave for four months, lost 17 lbs and felt great. There were some side effects, like stomach ache and head ache but nothing severe. Ive been off the drug for about 10 days for vacation and would like to start again. I have called and left messages for my doctor twice and have not gotten answer back regarding the dosage. Do I start over again, like a beginner? Or do I go back to the dosage I quit at? ## Honestly, only your prescribing doctor can legally tell you what and how much you should be taking; including how long it should be taken for to achieve your goals. But if you've been off the medication for 10 days after four months of consistent treatment, my view is that the dosage would likely be similar to what you were already taking before quitting (since the ef...

I had surgery and was given Valium as well as codeine for the pain. Only took codeine for a day or so and last time I took Valium was yesterday -- in total for less than a week. I am wanting to begin my contrave prescription but want to make sure there are no contraindications as I know Valium has quite a long half-life and am concerned about mixing chemicals in my body. Suggestions as to how long I need to wait before I start would be appreciated . Thanks ## Hi Diana, I'm a little confused as to whether the "Vicodin" in your title is a typo or not, because you go on to mention "Valium and Codeine" from that point forward with no other regard for Vicodin...? According to The University of Maryland's drug interaction tool, there are no interactions between Valium ...

I haven't been on Contravene for months as I lost my 35 pounds and maintained it. During the holidays I picked up some weight. Just took two today and forgot I am having a root canal in 30 hours. Should I be okay? Afraid it will block the pain shots he gives me to do the work on me. ## @Dental Patient, Is your dentist also aware that you're taking any prescriptions? If not, I think it would be important to inform them if not but for your own safety; especially if something they administer has a possibility of interacting. Umm.edu's drug interaction checker mentions that Contrave may decrease the effectiveness of opioid medication. According to NIH.gov, "the average elimination half-life of Naltrexone (one of the active ingredients in Contrave) is four hours, and the mean...

Second night I got a really bad headache, it could have been from sugar withdrawal. Headache lasted through day three. I did not take contravene on day three, scared of another headache. My question is will headaches get better/worse? Should I give it another go? ## It seems like my headaches got less severe and less frequent after a few weeks. I recently stopped taking it bc I didn't think it was really helping that much but it was lol. I figured that out after I stopped it. So I'm on day 2 again now and I'm having really bad headaches again too. I feel your pain! ## According to NIH.gov, you should talk with your doctor if you experience headaches while taking naltrexone or bupropion (the two active ingredients in Contrave). What are the best times to take Contrave? When you are supposed to take 2 in the morning, do you take them at the same time or space them out? What about the afternoon? ## Yes, they are usually both taken together, just before a meal. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, and weight loss. How are you doing with them? Are you on any other medications? ## When are the best times to take contravene? I just started taking 2 A day! Do you take them befor or after eating?
