I used the prescribed Moviprep for my last colonoscopy prep. It was very hard to drink due to the bad taste. I thought I did a better job drinking the whole preparation this time around and yet after enduring this my bowel was not completely clean. I have just heard about the use of Miralax as a better tasting alternative. Any comments? ## I'm not sure that any laxative or medication really tastes good, unfortunately. Learn more Miralax details here. And I've never tried Miralax. However, you'd need to check with your doctor as to what's okay for you to use for such tests. One tip I can give you when taking something that doesn't take good is to take a deep breath, pinch your nose shut and then swallow it down as fast as you can. Smell is a very large part of taste, ...

wow I cant believe my eyes!!! I have ulcerative colitis I was diagnosed with 21 yrs ago. Every 2 years my dr checks me for cancer which means I have at least 10 colonoscopy's....each time I was advised to take magnesium citrate (2 bottles any flavor) and dulcolax tabs 4 in the am, etc, along with clear liquids, popsicles, jello, whatever... Anyway I have never spent more than $15 including the "snacks". I'm not a dr so maybe there's a reason to prescribe this $$$ kit but I would strongly advise asking your dr for a less expensive option. ## Hello, Mika! How are you? Thank you for posting this great advice for others. It is a sad, but true fact that many doctors prescribe the "latest and greatest", without considering the expense to the patient. Doctors are no...

I came down with a cold 4 days ago taking cold meds for it .I also came down with a urinary tract infection 2 weeks ago. Saw my urologist Fri. Im taking Nitrofurantoin until the results come back Monday.I also have a hernia up near my ribcage most likely from lifting to heavy of objects when I was working 8 years ago. can I still have a colonoscopy done Monday ?Im afraid that all these issues are getting in the way. ## Hello, Ressolute! How are you? Under these circumstances, I think it would be best to double check with your doctor. I'm not sure if anything you've been taking would affect the test results, or if taking products to empty your bowel could affect the antibiotic. Have you called to check, yet?

I used MiraLax for my colonoscopy prep yesterday. Mixed 238 grams with 64 oz of Lemon-Lime Gatorade G2. I have have 5 of these tests in the past 25 years and this was the best tasting but after 6 of the 8 glasses of 8 oz mixture got very nauseous and threw up 5 times. I was supposed mix another 32 oz later but there was no way I couldn't take any more, canceled my apointment. Feeling about 75% better now after 12 hours.

I've been taking contrave for 3 months. I am having mild success. I've only lost five pounds. However, I'm not binge eating. It has also reduced my migraines. I'm scheduled for a routine evaluation for colonoscopy in about three weeks (turned 50). My doctor requested that I stop taking Contrave two weeks before the procedure. He cited new regulations that state patients should cease the use of weight loss drugs during this procedure. When I've researched this statement, the term "diet drugs" seems to be defined as ephedrine and Belviq. I know that Contrave is new and some doctors are unfamiliar with the new drug. The procedure does require sedation, but there will not be any other medication. Do I really need to stop taking Contrave before this procedure? If ...

I have been having severe lower abdomen pain and my digestive Dr wants to do a colonoscopy ASAP, but he said he can't till my Cardiologist Dr will be willing to stop Effient and 81mg Aspirin for a few days before. My question is, is it ok to stop for a few days? I had a stent put in on Dec 1st, 2016. ## While this is commonly done, before some medical test, only your cardiologist can decide if it is safe for you to do so, since there is a risk of rebound clotting, and elevated blood pressure, if you suddenly stop the Effient. Have you consulted your cardiologist, yet? Has your doctor done any other tests to see what is causing your pain, such as an MRI, or ultrasound? Are you on any other medications?

Can I take Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 5-325 TB before a colonoscopy? I am told to not take NSAIDs two weeks before my test. It appears there is no aspirin in this RX. ## You are correct, the active ingredients are Acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes, what else can i take for arthritic knees for pain that eont affect yhe colonoscopy test

do you need to stop taking this drug before a colonoscopy ## What drug are you asking about? You didn't mention in your post, nor did you post this in a specific medication forum. United Healthcare mailed me (unsolicited) a finger prick test, saying it is to be "mailed back to UHC" in place of a colonoscopy. It does not ask for a stool sample like the normal kits. I called my primary care doctor and he said "blood work cannot tell if you have colon polyps". Seems more like invasive phishing for pre-existing conditions. I DM'd UNITED HEALTHCARE on TWITTER and they did NOT dispute this! I then tweeted it out to alert others to throw it in the garbage. They apologized for "your frustration" but they never denied that the test was a bald-faced lie. I threw the kit in the trash and my colonoscopy is in 2 days. I have a history on colon polyps so even the stool kit would not be for me. NEVER mail bloodwork to ANY insurance carrier. The trans...

my doctor wants me to take at 4pm and at 10pm and drink 5 8oz glasses of liquid after each dose. That would have me going to sleep at 3 am. Is this necessary ## Hello, Ellen! How are you? It would be best to follow your doctor's instructions for the proper way to take it. But, if you can't do so, then you may want to give them a call and see what your alternatives might be. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## Prepopik is what I'm taking and it's making my stomach very uneasy. And I'm having a hard time drinking the water some one help me ## Is Pico Salax available in 12 mg form? I am having a colonoscopy in the US where Prepopic is used. Can I take both doses of Suprep the night before colonoscopy , 4 hours apart ?the receptionist told I cannot but I don't trust her ## That's what my dr. Recommended. Actually it was 5 hrs apart the night before ## Hello, Kim! How are you? You should follow whatever instructions your doctor provided. If you can't reach your doctor to ask, then you pharmacist should be able to advise you. Is there anything else I can help with?

Suprep tastes awful and causes some discomfort for about an hour each round, but it effectively cleans the colon. A yearly cleansing of this sort seems like it would be beneficial to colon health and getting rid of toxins. Not sure though if it is safe and if any physician would prescribe it in this way or if it is even permitted. Any medical professionals who could answer this? ## Hello, Magpie! How are you? No, they would not. There are reasons it is a prescription only product that is only intended to be used for cleansing before certain procedures. If you wish to detoxify and cleanse at other times, there are safer products you can use, many of which are available over the counter. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I had a colonoscopy 5 years ago, and I'm having one tom...

Colonoscopy on Monday... no aspirin allowed for a week... have toothache... can I take a producer today?? been taking Tylenol...acetaminophen. Anyone??? ## Hello, Rick! How are you? Roxicet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, so there is no Aspirin in it. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. If you're allowed to take Tylenol/Acetaminophen, then you should be abel to take it, but checking with your doctor would be best. Is there anything else I can help with?

I had my first colonoscopy yesterday. Used Prepopik, got as free sample from GI doc. I was freaking out from all reviews on this product. I took this advice and it seemed to work for me: following a low residue diet 3 days prior to procedure&1 day prior only clear liquids. I started really hydrating with pedialyte, propel,& other clear liquids 3 days prior to test. I got a prescription for Zofran to help with nausea. Took 1 of those about an hour before each dosage of prep was due. Make sure you chill water so you've got really cold water to mix the powder in. Drink the prep through a big straw. The first sip wasn't horrible but then I caught sense of that sour-ish fruit aftertaste,& that almost made me choke. I had results about 30 minutes after starting. I noticed ...

Some times I have to to go in the evening again and pass some mucous. Also if there is a stress event I get severe pain on the left side of my navel. Is there a medicine which can help me. reagrds ## I too suffer for over 30 years with IBS I'm having a flare up as I type. I'm so sorry I totally understand you pain and suffering. Over the years I've been through several doctors as well as several colonoscopies Their magic answer has always been IBS is a syndrome and us we don't know what to do for it so good luck and a tall shoe auditor office with some Imodium A.D. or Pepto-Bismol and that's about it . in prepping for a colonoscopy, i had to half the large bottle of miralax to mix with liquid. large bottle is 8.3, so i went to half that and realized the large bottle contains 12 oz, not 8.3 as labeled.....why???? they say that the 17oz lid has 14 servings (8.3) but i measured out the 14 servings in the lid, and there is still more than 8.3...so do i prep with 8.3 oz or the whole bottle (which everyone assumes is 8.3!!) ## Hello, Jan! How are you? If they told you to use the whole bottle, then that is what you should do, but please double check with your doctor to be sure. I've not seen anyone else mention this, so it seems very odd. The FDA classifies this as being a laxative and its typical side effects may possibly include stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea and dizziness. Is there ...

Had my first colonoscopy and used Prepopik. It was wonderful! I really didn't want to do this and was not going to drink the gallon of horrible stuff that my husband had to drink. The Doctor recommended using Prepopik and it made it really easy. It took about an hour after the first dose to start working and it wasn't bad at all. I would highly recommend this product. ## Hi Betty, Glad to hear about your positive experience with Prepopik! It sounds like a real winner compared to a lot of the reviews I've seen on other bowel prep kits. Do you happen to recall what the name of the product was that your husband had to take? It seems many people here on the site are raving about other similar options such as Suprep, but when it comes to these products I wouldn't know what to...

This prep was super easy for my colonoscopy. I had read horror stories about other preps, but this was simple and tasted fine (like lemon soda). Started to work in 30 minutes, really would pay whatever for this prep- was a breeze. ## Hello, Liz! How are you? Thank you for your post, I'm glad it worked so very well for you. This is used to prep the bowel for various procedures. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, vomiting, bloating and diarrhea. Has anyone else had a good experience with it?

I am to undergo a colonoscopy using the Prepopik packets. Supposedly PicoSalax is the same medicine under a different name out of Canada. Is this absolutely true and would I be preparing the best I can using PicoSalax? Prepopik is available in 12mg doses, PicoSalax in 10mg...any difference? Thanks! the difference in cost is substantial...$117 Preppie vs $48 PicoSalax..not sure of shipping costs ## Hi suegue, From what I could gather, both medications do seem identical. However I haven't actually come across Prepopik being available in 12mg doses. Looking at the manufacturer's product page, Prepopik reportedly contains the following set of active ingredients: Sodium Picosulfate (10 milligrams) + Magnesium Oxide (3.5 grams) + Anhydrous Citric Acid (12 grams). Pico-Salax on the oth...
