Clopidogrel, sold under the brand name Plavix among others,[2] is an antiplatelet medication used to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke in those at high risk.[5] It is also used together with aspirin in heart attacks and following the placement of a coronary artery stent (dual antiplatelet therapy).[5] It is taken by mouth.[5] Its effect starts about two hours after intake and lasts for five days.[5] Comm...

Since I have been on generic Plavix (apo-clopidogrel) I have noticed that my bleeding time is almost normal and not long as it was when I took Plavix. Dosage is 75mg a day. This worries me because I have a cardiac stent and don't think that my blood should clot this fast with this drug. ## There can sometimes be some minor fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient in a generic medication. Learn more APO Clopidogrel details here. What has your doctor said about it? What has the clotting time been? ## Going to see my GP next week-will let you know the results. ## My doctor put me back on Plavix.

I have been on clopidogrel for 8 years after insertion of a stent. During this period I suffered the most painful cramping in my feet, legs and arms when performing moderate exercise. I recently visited my heart specialist who suggested that I may no longer need to take clopidogrel as a recent angiogram showed no significant blockages in my heart. I ceased taking clopidogrel and no longer suffer any cramping. The suffering I have endured for 8 years while on clopidogrel should be a warning to others. If I had been able to exercise without cramping it may well have been as beneficial as taking this drug. ## Hello, Bill! How are you doing? Wow! That's terrible, I'm glad you finally figured out what was causing it. Muscle aches and stiffness are known side effects, as listed by the...

I have been taking Clopidogrel for 3 years and the bruising I get has gradually gotten worse. It appears all over my body. At the moment I have two black eyes. I have been to doctors numerous times and they send me away saying we can’t change the tablet. I have now been started on depression tablets due to this. Help! ## Unfortunately, easy bruising is a side effect of all of the medications in this class, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, increased risk of bleeding, and headache. Ref: Clopidogrel Information The best suggestion I can make is to sit down with your doctor and ask them how you can mitigate the bruising, ask if there are certain precautions you can take that would help. Are you on any other medications?

I have been taking clopidogrel 75 for circulation for nearly four years now and my hair is so thin It won’t cover my scalp properly, the loss has speeded up in the last six months and I would like to know if you think it will stop before I loose it all (which won’t be long) or is there anything else you can suggest, thank you. ## That is not a common side effect, as listed by the FDA. They are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. There is really no way to be sure how any given medication will affect anyone that takes it, though. Are you on any other medications? How old are you? Have you consulted your doctor? There are other medications in this class that you can try.

i was prescribed Clopidogrel 75 after a suspected TIA. All completed tests results were normal but i suffer from post-polio syndrome and have muscle weakness in both upper and lower limbs. Since taking Clopidogrel i have experienced symptoms similar to flu symptoms, which diminished a few days after stopping the medication. I also feel very lethargic and fatigued whilst on the medication. Any explanation? i am reluctant to take the medication firstly because the TIA was not proved to have taken place and secondly because i feel so ill whilst on it. ## All medications carry the risk of causing side effects, and the NIH does list those as being possible ones from this medication, along with dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and easy bruising. Since I started talking clopidogrel 3 months now my hair is falling out by the handfuls. Is there a substitute for clopidogrel. ## Hello, Wayne! How are you? I'm sorry about the hair loss. There are other options you can try, but most of them can cause hair loss as a side effect, so there's no guarantee that switching will solve the problem. Along with hair loss, other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include nausea, dizziness, easy bruising and increased risk of bleeding. But you could ask your doctor about trying something like Brilliant or Effient. They should be able to prescribe an appropriate alternative. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on 75mg Clopidogrel daily for the past month. My hair is falling out at an alarming rate, losing appetite/weight. Clopidogrel replaced the Plavix I was taking since last august. Help! ## Have you consulted your doctor? This isn't a known side effect of Clopidogrel and you should consult your doctor to get a better idea of what's causing it and a possible solution. ## I have been on the generic Plavix (clopidogrel) for about three months and my hair is also coming out by the handsful. ## On clopidogrel for over a month and my hair is falling out! Hi Everyone... Has anyone experienced depression while on 75mg of Clopidogrel daily? Does anyone know, if there are any cardiac meds that do not cause or exacerbate depression? ## Yes, the FDA does list depression as being a possible side effect of Clopidogrel, along with nausea, headache, easy bruising, and increased risk of bleeding. Ref: Clopidogrel Information Is this the only medication you are currently taking? What condition is being treated with it? I'm sorry, but it is impossible to research alternative medications for you, without some additional information.

I had a cardiac arrest 3-1/2 months ago. I had manageable hair before. Now my hair won't hold a curl and just lays flat ever since. I have tried everything. Is this related? I take only Clopidogrel and Losartan daily. ## Yes, many medications can cause this issue with your hair, they may also cause hair loss, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, and increased urination. Have you changed anything else about your hair care routine and diet, or just the new medications? I've found the Aussie products work well for mine, since I am also taking Losartan with other blood pressure medications, but I usually have to skip conditioner most days, since it weighs my hair down.

I am 62 and have no history of hypertension, yet there was a sudden spike in my blood pressure reaching 160/100, so my Dr. prescribed several medicines (Amlodipine 5mg, Enlapril, Clopidogrel 75mg, Aspirin 75mg, Atrovastatin). I took them for 4 days and immediately my B.P. showed normal. Then the Dr. told me I will have to take the medications as prescribed for the rest of my life or I will have to face rebound effects. I don't like the idea of being on medications forever. It was a small sporadic incidence with grade 1 mild heart dysfunction. I then went for a 2nd opinion from an expert Dr. He asked me to discontinue all previous medications and take only 1/2 Amlodipine and 1/2 aspirin daily for 6 months. I found one of the previous meds was Plavix (Clopidogrel) and learned that it ...

I have been on Clopidogrel 75mg after having a slight heart attack thought to have been caused by a blood clot in a small junction, my cholesterol was ok, pumping action ok, nothing needed to be done. I have been told to stop Clopidogrel and cardiologist said ok to stop it suddenly. I am 57 but also hypothyroid on 25mcg levothyroxine. Also on aspirin 75mg day. I tried coming off 4 weeks ago by taking only 3/4 of a tablet after reading its best to do it slowly but after a few days had an anxiety attack, I ended up going back on the full tablet. I have been taking 3/4 tablet a day again but getting tense and anxiety back again and indigestion. Feeling a bit yucky but worried its withdrawal from Clopidogrel. Or is it just anxiety due to hypothyroid, its driving me nuts. I keep belching and...

I have 3 stents (seven years) and a heart valve replacement (5 years) but have thin blood, which can cause nose bleeds and prolonged bleeding after cuts or injuries. So my cardiologist put me on Aspirin rather than Warfarin to help prevent blood clots/stroke. Since then I have had only a handful of minor heart issues (palpitations but no chest pain, heart attack or stroke). My cardiologist recently retired and my new specialist has insisted that I need to replace the Aspirin with a combination of Xarelto and Clopidogrel. I fear if i make this change I will have serious side effects, including serious nose bleeds (I once spent 3 days in hospital with a nose bleed). If I choose to stay on the Asprin will I be at serious risk of having a stroke? ## You could ask them to check your clotting...
