I've been taking clonodine for 3 years for hypertension. It works. However for the past 2 and a half years I've had annoying intermittent stinging/tingling/itching on my shoulders. Enough to keep me from sleeping occasionally. I've tried every cream, lotion, no alcohol, no sugar, and more but nothing stops the irritation. Now I'm wondering if it could be the build up of clonodine in my system.thx for your thoughts on this. ## Hello, Debbie! How are you? This medication is known to cause dilation in the veins of the neck, as reported by the U.S. FDA, so that could be causing what you're experiencing, especially since blood flow changes, once you law down and while sleeping. I am withdrawing off of methadone. Ii have been tapering down from 80 mg to about 5 to 8 mgs a day. I take gabapentin for restless leg that started when i got down to 10 mgs. But doctor wants to taper me off of gaba b4 i finished methadone. I dont know why he is doing this but i did get clonodines .1 mg once a day at night from him since i hav to hurry up with methadone now cause actually i had to increase gaba for it to continue working and now i have even less gaba. So my question is how long does it take for clonodines to work and is only once a day enough? ## Clonidine usually tends to have some effect shortly after taking it, generally within 20 to 30 minutes, so some people do take it on an as needed basis, rather than taking it all the time. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety when I was 16 and started taking Zoloft. within 6 months of treatment I was taking 100mg of Zoloft, and here I am four years later still depending on it each day. Due to the high dosage, it caused me to have very very very bad side affects such as migraines and becoming restless 24/7. They then started me on Amitriptyline to help out balance the side affects and it worked perfectly. I take 25 mg of amitriptyline at night. 3 years after continuously taking the Zoloft and Amitriptyline, my psychiatrist added me onto clonodine at night to help me sleep and it works wonders, but I'm afraid I'm addicted to it, mentally. if I don't take it or accidentally miss taking it at night, I am completely restless at night to the point where I don...

I am taking femedipine er and clonodine 3 times a day and for spikes 0.2. Some days it keeps me down to 130/80 but some days im 155/95. What would you recommend to keep blood pressure level steady? ## Hello, Perla! How are you? You will never hit one steady number and stay there, it will always change, according to the NIH, depending on your activity levels, the foods you eat and etc. Have you been checking it at the same time of day, or at different times? Has anything changed in your diet? Do you eat a lot of salty or fatty foods? Have you been checking it while sedentary or after being active? Often, the easiest things we can do to help are proper exercise and dietary improvements, such as keeping our sodium and fat intake as low as possible.

I was perscribed clonodine for tachycardia but have also been on suboxone for 6 years..which I would love to get off of. After research I see this drug also helps with the withdrawals.. can I use the clonodine to help withdraw from suboxone? Will I withdraw from the clonidine also if I stop taking it? Is it just another drug that I'll be physically addicted to? ## It's really hard to say, since we are all different, so much of it depends on you and your metabolism. But yes, Clonidine has been known to help with withdrawal symptoms according to FDA reports, and yes, you may experience some withdrawal symptoms from it, if you stop it abruptly, however, it depends on how much you were taking and how long you were taking it. What dosage are you taking? ## I just started taking the c...

I was prescribed .2mg of Clonidine twice a day to prevent withdrawl while tapering off of 100mcg/hr Fentanyl. I was not informed by my doc that I needed to taper off the Clonodine as well. Stopped taking when took last dose in bottle, & have been having horrible withdrawls from the Clonodine. Went to ER, & doc prescribed .1mg twice daily. Took first two doses & still very shaky, having horrible chills, & unable to sleep. How long will it take for this to calm down? ## Hello, Michelle! How long were you on the Clonidine? I have to wonder if these withdrawal symptoms aren't more due to withdrawing from the Fentanyl, rather than the Clonidine. Short term use of Clonidine shouldn't cause major withdrawal symptoms and the ones you've described are more typical of ...

I've been on 10mg of oxy for about 6 months and also went thru a major depression to which I take an anti depressant for. My depression is under control, but I get anxiety so I use the oxy for that. Doc wants me off the oxy, and suggested tapering slowly and possible using clonodine to help with the anxiety during this taper. Can I really be addicted after 6 months? I do know that if I miss my dose I get more anxiety. ## Hello, Mmei! How are you? I believe you're misunderstanding the FDA and DEA definition of addiction. Addiction occurs, when someone abuses a medication, by taking more and more of it to keep experiencing the energizing effect of the high that it makes them feel. Since those are just side effects, they eventually wear off, so they have to take more to get those f...
