Clonidine - how long does it take to work

I went to the doctor for an unrelated issue. BP was high 200/95. Might be situational but she had me start a regime of .1mg of Clonidine 2 times per day. Took the first one at 7pm. BP was normal at 6 am. Can it work that fast or was my high BP situational? ## Hello, Scoop! How are you? Clonidine is known to work well and fast, but it wouldn't take it down to normal that fast, so it could be that your elevated blood pressure was situational. However, regardless of that, you do need to take something to prevent it going that high in the future, because that's a very dangerous level to hit that creates the risk of heart attack or stroke, unless your doctor okays your stopping it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Clonidine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth ... ...

Clonidine Mylan Vs Actavis
3 Replies RSS
Hello, I am on clonidine hcl 0.2 mg. twice a day. I started on the Mylan brand and only took it for one month. Then I went to a different drug store and they gave me the Actavis brand. I have been taking the Actavis brand a few months now, but it seemed like the Mylan was better. I just got a new perscription of the Mylan brand again and just took my first pill. Can you all tell me which of these two brands of clonidine hcl work best for you or if you can tell any difference. After I am on the Mylan again for awhile I will post here again and let you know if it is really better then the Actavis. Anything anybody can tell me that have tried both of these brands of this medication would be of great help. Thanks, nora ## Hi, Nora! Sorry about the problem you've had. To clear it up for ... ...

I ran out of Clonidine for my son
Post a Reply
Hi. My 7 year old son takes Clonidine (.1mg) once daily in the evening. He takes Concerta (37mg) in the morning. He is autistic with ADHD and anxiety. The Clonidine is to help his transition from the Concerta and to help him relax for sleep. I completely forgot to go pick up his Clonidine prescription today (it was totally my own fault), and my boyfriend took our only vehicle to work. The pharmacy is already closed. Will he be OK until tomorrow afternoon (when he gets home from school)? If not, I can have my sister go pick up his script tomorrow and take it to school... but if I do that I am worried that he will get drowsy in school. Can someone advise me on the best thing to do? I honestly don't know about this, and I am looking for some guidance. ...

How fast does the 2541 blood pressure pills work .01mg and is it a narcotic ? ## Hello, Myron! How are you? This tablet is listed in the databases as containing 0.1mg of Clonidine, it is a medication that has quite a few medical uses. Due to its actions, it tends to have some effect immediately, but it will take about a month for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. Typical side effects are listed as including nausea, dizziness, constipation and loss of appetite. No, it is not a narcotic of any type. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

Oxycontin withdrawal

I've been taking Oxycodone 30 mg for neuropathy several years. Recently I was hospitalized five weeks and put on OxyContin 40 mg plus Oxycodone 15 mg for breakthrough which worked like a charm. My problem being is that my 77 year old PCP won't prescribe a time-release and considers them dangerous. My question is this; how do I wean off this med using my leftover 30 and 15 mg Oxycodone until I can locate a new doctor who will prescribe the OxyContin? Plus I'll need to wean from my Oxycodone if I can't locate a doctor. I fear the withdrawal plus the horrible pain of Neuropathy returning full guns if I can't find a new doc. Withdrawal from opiates
9 Replies RSS
Why do you think docs prescribe Suboxone or Methadone for opiate withdrawal, make patients stay on it until they are completely addicted to it for years, then have to treat them to come off it? Why don't they treat a 5 day opiate withdrawal with a benzo to sleep, clonidine, gabapentin, trazodone for a week or two instead. It would sure help society not be addicted to Suboxone. Worst drug ever. ## Most people, even if they are addicted, can't just take a ton of medications to try and sleep through their withdrawals and be out of work for that length of time. Treatment with Suboxone or Methadone enables them to still work and be productive, while undergoing addiction treatment and, unlike Methadone, Suboxone usually enables most people to eventually become completely drug free, al... ...

What meds could I try?? I am on 180mgs methadone and getting withdrawals every am b4 I dose. Does gabapentin work for anxiety? Need help or I am gonna lose it!! ## Hello, Emily! How are you? Gabapentin does help with some mood disorders, but there's no guarantees that it will. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Its not listed as having an problems or interactions when taken with Methadone. Do not take this medication for high blood pressure...sure it will work, in less than 3 days it dropped my bp to 90/55, i felt like i was going to die...and when you discontinue it you will rebound like crazy, heart rate will shoot through the roof, blood pressure will rise dramatically and the headaches and head pressure will be severe...I ended up in the emergency room twice trying to get off this medication and still can't get off it without having severe effects. Do a search for the study the nimh did on trying to get off this drug 30 years ago to see what it does to people. Please avoid this drug at any cost. ## Sorry about the problem you've had taking Clonidine. I have severe hypertension. I am 76 yrs old. I am allergic to most BP medicine, with horrible side effects. I am on clonidine three times a day with a 1 mg lorazepam. It was working well until my pharmacy changed manufacturers. I was getting Sandoz. Since I have had Qualitest and Watson generic and they do absolutly nothing, even if I take 3 at a time. I have called all around and nobody sells Sandoz. My insurance will not pay for the real thing and 60 pills cost 700.00 dollars. How can I get Sandoz again ? ## Hello, Caroline! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. Since the Lorazepam is a controlled substance that is commonly abused, you most likely didn't get an honest answer from the pharmacies that you called. SOMETIMES AT NIGHT MY PRESSURE WILL SKYROCKET TO ABOUT 235/105. I DOUBLE DOSE MY MEDS BUT IT STILL TAKES AROUND 3-4 HOURS TO GET IT DOWN; NOT LOW BUT LIVABLE. I TAKE CLONIDINE .02 LOSARTAN 100 MG AND SOMETIMES AMLODIPINE 5 MG. ## Actually, the only thing bringing it down after 3 to 4 hours is time, not the medications. These medications don't work like that to bring it down that fast, they take time to work, which requires consistent dosing for 4 to 6 weeks to have an effect, occasionally doubling up, just when it spikes does nothing. Have you consulted your doctor about the spikes? What are you doing that may make it elevate like that? You most likely need a med adjustment in the evening, which will probably be a higher dosage of one of them. One that you could ask your doctor abou... ...

small round yellow pill with MP657 on one side and nothing on the other side ## does it say mylan or mp 657? ## Eenie, meenie, MP 657 is Clonidine 0.1mgs, usually used to lower blood pressure, but it does work on some nerve pain and etc. so it is occasionally used to relieve withdrawals when someone is tapering off of other meds. I am guessing, only guessing, that since they saw the M on it, they assumed it was a Mylan pill. I have run into this numerous times, people see a V and think something is Vicodin and etc. ...

I found this dicussion when trying to research the reason a child is prescribed Clonidine for sleep and saw in black and white how many children are given a stimulant by day and a depressant to bring them down at night. First what dose are these kids on??? I am in no way critisizing anything anybody has done to help their child with serious behavioral symptoms but I think I have found a reason and a solution MD's and DO's probably don't know about and probably won't be told by their pharmaceutical rep. Asa pediatric RN, kids are a huge focus in my life but had to stop working 4 yrs ago when I became disabled.
