Clonidine How Long Does It Take To Work

I went to the doctor for an unrelated issue. BP was high 200/95. Might be situational but she had me start a regime of .1mg of Clonidine 2 times per day. Took the first one at 7pm. BP was normal at 6 am. Can it work that fast or was my high BP situational? ## Hello, Scoop! How are you? Clonidine is known to work well and fast, but it wouldn't take it down to normal that fast, so it could be that your elevated blood pressure was situational. However, regardless of that, you do need to take something to prevent it going that high in the future, because that's a very dangerous level to hit that creates the risk of heart attack or stroke, unless your doctor okays your stopping it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Clonidine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth ...

Im a 33 year old woman. I was just prescribed .1 mg of clonidine for OxyContin withdrawals. I have bend using Oxy's for about 2 years now. The clonidine seem to be working and I have weined myself off from 60mg a day to 20mg. But now the next step is to go off completely. I need to know how long they last in your system. I know it's at least 3 or 4 hours but not sure if any longer. I want to take my next dose before the withdrawals start. Plz help. Mom of 2 ## The plasma level of clonidine peaks in approximately 3 to 5 hours and the plasma half-life ranges from 12 to 16 hours. The half-life increases up to 41 hours in patients with severe impairment of renal function. NOTE: it generally takes about 5 half lives for the drug to be completely out of your system. I am taking femedipine er and clonodine 3 times a day and for spikes 0.2. Some days it keeps me down to 130/80 but some days im 155/95. What would you recommend to keep blood pressure level steady? ## Hello, Perla! How are you? You will never hit one steady number and stay there, it will always change, according to the NIH, depending on your activity levels, the foods you eat and etc. Have you been checking it at the same time of day, or at different times? Has anything changed in your diet? Do you eat a lot of salty or fatty foods? Have you been checking it while sedentary or after being active? Often, the easiest things we can do to help are proper exercise and dietary improvements, such as keeping our sodium and fat intake as low as possible.

I have recently been put on this drug for sleeping and well its not working at all. I have been taking one at night before bedtime which is what I was told but is it safe to take 2 since im not getting any rest with the 1? ## Also I failed to mention in last comment they are 0.2 mg ## I would recommend trying 1 1/2 first take it no more than 15 mins before bed it works fast. But if u take it 1hour or 30 mins before bed you can kind of simulate yourself into it not working then it loses its effect. Once the groggy effect wears off before your in bed most likely you will not fall asleep well. ## I would also call your doctor to let he/she know it's not working because if you increase your dose without say so to the doctor they will not be happy and you will run out of meds early. If t...

I have been on clonidine now for approx 10 months, for high blood pressure. The doctors had tried several other medications but I had so many reactions and issues we decided that the clonidine patch would work best and it has. Yes there is some fatigue and some up and down numbers but in general I have done well. MY BP was all stress related , no non medical reason. So in the past couple of months have been able to alleviate most of the stress (refinance) and I started 500mg magnesium daily and within a month my BP is getting lower and lower and lower. I was wearing 4mg of clonidine and taking (2) 1mg pills during the day as needed. Now I am down to only 2mg a day and still my BP is staying below 115/64 which is vampire state for me. (my numbers were up in the 180/100 range) soooooooooo...

Hello, I am on clonidine hcl 0.2 mg. twice a day. I started on the Mylan brand and only took it for one month. Then I went to a different drug store and they gave me the Actavis brand. Hi. My 7 year old son takes Clonidine (.1mg) once daily in the evening. He takes Concerta (37mg) in the morning. He is autistic with ADHD and anxiety. The Clonidine is to help his transition from the Concerta and to help him relax for sleep. I completely forgot to go pick up his Clonidine prescription today (it was totally my own fault), and my boyfriend took our only vehicle to work. The pharmacy is already closed. Will he be OK until tomorrow afternoon (when he gets home from school)? If not, I can have my sister go pick up his script tomorrow and take it to school... but if I do that I am worried that he will get drowsy in school. Can someone advise me on the best thing to do? I honestly don't know about this, and I am looking for some guidance. ## I know this question is from tw...

How fast does the 2541 blood pressure pills work .01mg and is it a narcotic ? ## Hello, Myron! How are you? This tablet is listed in the databases as containing 0.1mg of Clonidine, it is a medication that has quite a few medical uses. Due to its actions, it tends to have some effect immediately, but it will take about a month for it to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. Typical side effects are listed as including nausea, dizziness, constipation and loss of appetite. No, it is not a narcotic of any type. Is there anything else I can help with?

Can I take my expired clonidine 0.1mg patches as prescribed? What would happen if I do? I used to take these when I was WD from opiates. They worked great. I need to use them again, but have no way of getting anymore. Would it be OK to use what I still have from before? Will it still help me? ## Hello, Ambrosia! How are you? How old are they? Medications tend to lose effectiveness over time, so depending on their age, they may no longer work to help you.

I was prescribed clonidine weekly patches to help with hot flashes. Worked great for hot flashes; continued with patches, other symptoms began and I thought they were peri-menopausal. After several months my skin began to itch, shortly after itch then I developed a rash; wearing patch became intolerable. I just stopped wearing the patch. But then those hot flashes were unbearable and went back to Dr. requesting the medication in pill form. Dr. obliged, and I thought I was a happy camper. But. . . I had a severe allergic reaction. Eyes swollen, head and body aches, drowsy, just felt really weird. Looked on internet and found that I had been having numerous severe side effects for months. My question is how long will it take for the symptoms to subside. ## I am very sorry about what happe...

Why do you think docs prescribe Suboxone or Methadone for opiate withdrawal, make patients stay on it until they are completely addicted to it for years, then have to treat them to come off it? Why don't they treat a 5 day opiate withdrawal with a benzo to sleep, clonidine, gabapentin, trazodone for a week or two instead. It would sure help society not be addicted to Suboxone. Worst drug ever. ## Most people, even if they are addicted, can't just take a ton of medications to try and sleep through their withdrawals and be out of work for that length of time. Treatment with Suboxone or Methadone enables them to still work and be productive, while undergoing addiction treatment and, unlike Methadone, Suboxone usually enables most people to eventually become completely drug free, al...
