Clonidine - how long does it take to work

I went to the doctor for an unrelated issue. BP was high 200/95. Might be situational but she had me start a regime of .1mg of Clonidine 2 times per day. Took the first one at 7pm. BP was normal at 6 am. Can it work that fast or was my high BP situational? ## Hello, Scoop! How are you? Clonidine is known to work well and fast, but it wouldn't take it down to normal that fast, so it could be that your elevated blood pressure was situational. However, regardless of that, you do need to take something to prevent it going that high in the future, because that's a very dangerous level to hit that creates the risk of heart attack or stroke, unless your doctor okays your stopping it. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Clonidine as possibly including nausea, dizziness, dry mouth ... ...

clonidine 0. 2 mg
3 Replies RSS
I have recently been put on this drug for sleeping and well its not working at all. I have been taking one at night before bedtime which is what I was told but is it safe to take 2 since im not getting any rest with the 1? ## Also I failed to mention in last comment they are 0.2 mg ## I would recommend trying 1 1/2 first take it no more than 15 mins before bed it works fast. But if u take it 1hour or 30 mins before bed you can kind of simulate yourself into it not working then it loses its effect. Once the groggy effect wears off before your in bed most likely you will not fall asleep well. ## I would also call your doctor to let he/she know it's not working because if you increase your dose without say so to the doctor they will not be happy and you will run out of meds early. If t... ...

clonidine, Blood Pressure

I have been on clonidine now for approx 10 months, for high blood pressure. The doctors had tried several other medications but I had so many reactions and issues we decided that the clonidine patch would work best and it has. Yes there is some fatigue and some up and down numbers but in general I have done well. MY BP was all stress related , no non medical reason. So in the past couple of months have been able to alleviate most of the stress (refinance) and I started 500mg magnesium daily and within a month my BP is getting lower and lower and lower. I was wearing 4mg of clonidine and taking (2) 1mg pills during the day as needed. Now I am down to only 2mg a day and still my BP is staying below 115/64 which is vampire state for me. (my numbers were up in the 180/100 range) soooooooooo... ...

Hello, I am on clonidine hcl 0.2 mg. twice a day. I started on the Mylan brand and only took it for one month. Then I went to a different drug store and they gave me the Actavis brand. I have been taking the Actavis brand a few months now, but it seemed like the Mylan was better. I just got a new perscription of the Mylan brand again and just took my first pill. Can you all tell me which of these two brands of clonidine hcl work best for you or if you can tell any difference. After I am on the Mylan again for awhile I will post here again and let you know if it is really better then the Actavis. I ran out of Clonidine for my son
Post a Reply
Hi. My 7 year old son takes Clonidine (.1mg) once daily in the evening. He takes Concerta (37mg) in the morning. He is autistic with ADHD and anxiety. The Clonidine is to help his transition from the Concerta and to help him relax for sleep. I completely forgot to go pick up his Clonidine prescription today (it was totally my own fault), and my boyfriend took our only vehicle to work. The pharmacy is already closed. Will he be OK until tomorrow afternoon (when he gets home from school)? If not, I can have my sister go pick up his script tomorrow and take it to school... but if I do that I am worried that he will get drowsy in school. Can someone advise me on the best thing to do? I honestly don't know about this, and I am looking for some guidance. ...

clonidine severe allergic reaction
1 Reply RSS
I was prescribed clonidine weekly patches to help with hot flashes. Worked great for hot flashes; continued with patches, other symptoms began and I thought they were peri-menopausal. After several months my skin began to itch, shortly after itch then I developed a rash; wearing patch became intolerable. I just stopped wearing the patch. But then those hot flashes were unbearable and went back to Dr. requesting the medication in pill form. Dr. obliged, and I thought I was a happy camper. But. . . I had a severe allergic reaction. Eyes swollen, head and body aches, drowsy, just felt really weird. Looked on internet and found that I had been having numerous severe side effects for months. My question is how long will it take for the symptoms to subside. ## I am very sorry about what happe... ...

I've been taking Oxycodone 30 mg for neuropathy several years. Recently I was hospitalized five weeks and put on OxyContin 40 mg plus Oxycodone 15 mg for breakthrough which worked like a charm. My question is this; how do I wean off this med using my leftover 30 and 15 mg Oxycodone until I can locate a new doctor who will prescribe the OxyContin? Plus I'll need to wean from my Oxycodone if I can't locate a doctor. I fear the withdrawal plus the horrible pain of Neuropathy returning full guns if I can't find a new doc. Withdrawal from opiates
9 Replies RSS
Why do you think docs prescribe Suboxone or Methadone for opiate withdrawal, make patients stay on it until they are completely addicted to it for years, then have to treat them to come off it? Why don't they treat a 5 day opiate withdrawal with a benzo to sleep, clonidine, gabapentin, trazodone for a week or two instead. It would sure help society not be addicted to Suboxone. Worst drug ever. ## Most people, even if they are addicted, can't just take a ton of medications to try and sleep through their withdrawals and be out of work for that length of time. Treatment with Suboxone or Methadone enables them to still work and be productive, while undergoing addiction treatment and, unlike Methadone, Suboxone usually enables most people to eventually become completely drug free, al... ...

What meds could I try?? I am on 180mgs methadone and getting withdrawals every am b4 I dose. Does gabapentin work for anxiety? Need help or I am gonna lose it!! ## Hello, Emily! How are you? Gabapentin does help with some mood disorders, but there's no guarantees that it will. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Its not listed as having an problems or interactions when taken with Methadone. Do not take this medication for high blood pressure...sure it will work, in less than 3 days it dropped my bp to 90/55, i felt like i was going to die...and when you discontinue it you will rebound like crazy, heart rate will shoot through the roof, blood pressure will rise dramatically and the headaches and head pressure will be severe...I ended up in the emergency room twice trying to get off this medication and still can't get off it without having severe effects. Do a search for the study the nimh did on trying to get off this drug 30 years ago to see what it does to people.
