I have a bitter taste in my mouth, I have been taking this med for 4 days, is this a side effect? I wake up in the night and have such a bitter taste, I brush my teeth, gargle with listerine, but nothing helps. Food doesn't taste right. I have 3 more days, should I continue? ## Ironically enough, "change in taste" is listed word for word as a general side effect of Clarithromycin. I think if it becomes too bothersome or severe, you may want to consider talking to your doctor about any other alternative antibiotics that can replace Clarithromycin for the remaining 3 days. It's likely that it may not go away until you stop taking what's causing it to begin with. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Clarithromycin Details I hope this info helps!

Dizziness is a possible side effect from it, as well as from the NyQuil, it may even be made worse by combining the two, since the side effects from one medication to another can often aggravated each other. The wine will also add to the problem. You may want to consider cutting out the wine NyQuil to see if it helps. If it continues or becomes very seve...

It was delivered from Lyncourt Drugs in Syracuse, NY and made me violently ill. I was vomiting, coudln't stand or visually focus 12 hours after taking ONE pill. I'd been on it for two weeks recently -purchased at a local Rite Aide with no problem. (Don't know that imprint number but the pills looked slightly different). Even a Pharmacist at a Kinney Drugs couldn't find the number. The dispensing Pharmacist Christine Verillo at Lyncourt said she was too busy with customers...

I was prescribed Clarithromycin 14 x 500mg by my doctor at Christmas for a cold that seemed to be developing into a chest infection. I didn't want to be ill during Christmas so I got the prescription dispensed. In the event I didn't need to take it but the flu I now have has developed into a chest infection. Normally I am prescribed 250mg twice daily for 7 days. Could I take 500mg once per day for 7 days or should I cut the 500mg pill and take it as 250mg twice daily. I am concerned about compromising the efficiency of the treatment. Any advice? ## I can really only advise that you consult your doctor to see what you should do. Clarithromycin is only effective at treating infections, so if your problem has been caused by something else, it isn't going to help. It also might ...

Hi I was prescribed penicillin for tonsilitus i took for 3 days and was no better however had no side effects. I went back to doctors and they gave me clarithromycin instead i have taken 1 of these only and have had stomach pain and diarrhoea. My throat feels a lot better now cn i go back to taking the penicillin? ## Claire, I would advise against that, only a provider familiar with your history should make that decision . Firstly Pennicilin or any antibiotic for that matter SHOULD ALWAYS BE TAKEN TO ITS CONCLUSION UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY YOUR PROVIDER. Many side effects are common within this class of drug most resolve rapidly if given a chance. If they become overly bothersome contact your doc for direction.

Why have I had to stop taking statins while being treated for a chest infection with this drug? ## You might have to stop taking it, or lower your dosage, so be sure to follow your doctor's instructions on the matter. Taking them together could result in elevated levels of the statin building up in your body, which increases the risk of several health issues, including liver damage, according to NIH reports. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

And once you've taken it for a full 72 hours (3 days), you should start to see improvement. Learn more Clarithromycin details here.
