My doctor has prescribed Citalopram hbr for me to take for hot flashes. Could citalopram Hbr 20 mg tab cause itching of the skin on arms, head and face? Warning on bottle mentions "avoid prolonged sunlight". ## Hi Vickie, If it says to avoid prolonged sunlight, the medication probably causes some sort of Photosensitivity. Photosensitivity is a skin reaction (i.e. rash) that occurs after exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or an artificial light source. This could explain the very symptoms you're describing. I do also want to note that itching, rashes, swelling, hives or blisters, are all listed as severe side effects of Citalopram; in which case it would probably be best to let your doctor know about this as soon as possible. CAN I TAKE CITALOPRAM HBR 20 MG AND ADIPEX? ## No, these two actually should not be taken together. When combined, they each increase the toxicity of each other, which could cause a dangerous reaction just like that of an overdose. Stopping an antidepressant is usually done very slowly, because on top of some withdrawal effects, stopping abruptly might also cause some rebound effects, which could result in very severe depressive symptoms. You'd do that for a week or so, to allow your body to adjust to not taking it as often, then you'd start skipping two days and so on. Pink oval antidepressant ## I recently received a refill from my mail order pharmacy for Citalopram HBR tablets, 20 mg. The first prescription I had were pink oval tablets, but this next one was round white tablets, the size of a 325mg bayer aspirin. Embossed on the tablet, from what I can make out is, WP1 3177. I am taking citalopram HBR 10 mg and am experiencing swelling of my legs and arms. Is this a possible side effect? ## Hi eileen, I can't find any information that claims "swelling of the arms and legs" to be a side effect. However, I did read that allergic reactions to this medication can cause swelling of the face, tongue, eyes or mouth. Everyone reacts differently to prescription medication so it's possible that the problems you are experiencing could be the result of this drug.
