I have had major back surgery. I had 4 fusions. I have 12 3" screws in me. I'm still in chronic pain. What is a good slow release pain medication for the day and something at night when I get home? ## Hello, Josh! How are you? There are actually several available, such as Oxycontin, which contains a time released formulation of Oxycodone. MS Contin, which is a time released formulation of Morphine and the Duragesic patch that contains the narcotic Fentanyl. These are narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Those are all options that you may want to discuss with your doctor. What are you currently taking? ## Much thanks for your response and info. I'm on ...

I am so frustrated with how I have to worry regarding if or will my pain meds be cut off or not. I want to find out who knows what state is the most liberal regarding Pain Meds? I live in Montana. I am an older woman and I don't feel I have to be treated as if I am a young teenager and have to be in a contract, although I always do sign one I have never failed a U/A or anything. I would be willing to move to a State where I could live out the rest of my life without the fear of being cut off narcotics due to new regulations. In this day and age no one should have to suffer in pain!!! ## I agree! Unfortunately, the government puts everyone into one category and we all suffer. My Dr does random UA's and med checks. You would be amazed at the results. I too am an older female, and ...

Hey guys. I am new to the northern Iowa area. I have been dealing with chronic pain for 21 years. Up until 2 years ago, I had never done anything but take Nsaids for pain. But then I started taking vicodin, and then last year my pain doctor started prescribing oxycodone and a muscle relaxer. It has been the only thing that has helped me. I've tried injections, physical therapy, and acupuncture. Now that I have moved, I am having a terrible time finding a pain clinic that will provide my meds. Everyone I have seen in the northern iowa, Minnesota area has just been awful. Truly, awful. Does anyone know of a kind doctor or clinic that prescribes opioid medications? I've always heard the mayo clinic system was the best... however I can honestly say, they are the absolute worst :(

I have suffered refractory chronic head pain for over four decades, and every doctor I have ever had until a recent one prescribed a modst regime of pain medication. Now I need help locating a doctor who might be willing to prescribe again here in Portland, Oregon. ## Hi Will, I may not have a doctor I can refer you to, but I can provide you with a couple links that may be of service to you in locating pain management doctors in your general area, who specialize in this sort of thing. Does anyone here have chronic muscle ache/pain, especially in legs? And have taken Lyrica for that pain? ## Lyrica will only help with some types of nerve pain. It is an anticonvulsant that works on the synapses and neural pathways in the brain. Thus, it really depends on what is causing such pain. If it is due to some muscular condition and not nerve damage, then it may not help. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, mood swings and weight gain. Did your doctor prescribe this? ## Yes, was given samples to try but had to stop using b/c of side effects, i.e. dizzy, nerves. ## Yes

I'm seeing my pain doctor and psychiatrist this week to get on a proper pain regimen for debilitating fibromyalgia, severe insomnia with central sleep apnea, PTSD/anxiety from significant abuse I'm working through, chronic daily headaches (advanced migraines), and chronic pain from multiple surgeries (pelvic, back, neck...) Because my doctors don't collaborate I need to suggest options to them. I am sensitive to many medications and have tried a lot over the years. I want my life back. I'm smart and resourceful and at my wits end. I'm on low dose Seroquel for sleep - too much daytime sedation, as Ambien and Trazodone don't work. I'm also on Tramadol, Ativan and Skelaxin during the day. I can't drive, work or function well on this plan. Amitriptyline cause...

Hi, i have been reading through this site for a while and i found that a lot of people are having troubles because of FDA regulations for pain meds. Doctors are not willing to prescribe pain meds, even if you are a proved chronic pain patient. Having medical records is not a warranty neither to get a prescription for your medication so, what in the earth is people going to do? should people just die or be in pain forever. Some people may find a way to be out of pain without pain meds, but what about the others who dont. i think government should do anything else but putting restrictions and regulations. Please i would like those in pain to share your opinion with me. {edited for privacy}. i will gladdly take your solicition. God Bless America! ## I have been in mmt for 9 yrs. I'm wa...

I have been suffering due to severe lower back pain for years ( may be because of my over weight). Consulted several physio but its of no use. Finally I approached irehab for advice. And in return I got a good response too. Now I've been slowly recovering from my back issues. I still wanted to know if there is any other pain killer tablets available in the market for this kind of back problem particularly due to over weight. ## just lose the weight and see how much better you will feel, nothing is worse than pain and if losing weight instead of taking harsh medications would be of some relief this should be a no brainer!! trust me I have taken every pain medication known to man and if I had my choice I would rather change my diet and excercise if this was to be of some help. ## I ag...

What is better for nerve pain - Neurontin or Lyrica? I had surgery in both knees and an injection in my back. I also have osteoarthritis. ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? They have both been shown to be effective for some people, but the only way to see which one helps you is by trying one. They are both classified by the FDA as anticonvulsants that are approved to treat nerve pain and some mood disorders. Their typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Which one has your doctor recommended? ## Hi, Brenda; it may have taken me a while to come across your post but pregabalin (patent brand Pfizer LYRICA) is over twice the potency of gabapentin (Pfizer NEURONTIN). I personally can take neither - I was prescribed and titrated up to the m...

I was diagnosed with Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis 8 years ago. I also have no L5S1 disc in my spine from an old car accident. I have chronic/constant neck spasms from the MS as well as from the spine spasms. I have tried valium, gabepenton, lyrica and flexeril. I had trigger point injections in my neck/shoulders. No relief at all. My Neuro wants to do another trigger point injection himself. But what is that going to do for the spasms in my back and the ones I get in my legs from time to time? He will not prescribe ANY pain medications. I requested Vicodin, since I had a short prescription from a busted blood vessel in my hip from my MS injectable medication that messed me up pretty bad. I actually felt half normal! It was great because I didn't feel "dopey", I was...

I see a pain management Dr for chronic pain. I've had a very difficult time in finding the RIGHT medication for this. I recently had my 2nd disc repair surgery on my neck and I've made sure to follow all protocols with prescriptions between my pain management Dr and my surgeon. My biggest issue right now is that I've been taking Hydrocodone/Acetaminophen 7.5/325 in liquid form. Today my husband took me in for a follow up appointment and we found out that this medication is no longer available in the liquid form. I take the liquid form because of a poor absorption issue with my stomach after having a bad gastric bypass surgery (while I lost a great amount of weight my stomach is totally screwed up now). I'm allergic to morphine & dilaudid. We've tried patches too ...

I have spinal fusions due to fractures,"failed back syndrome " and deal with pain most of the time. My beloved Dr.a specialist is retiring and it is like losing a family member. Hi there, I have spinal stenosis, 2 herniated discs, and five tears in different discs, don't want surgery, looking for a doctor that will prescribe Percocet in the orange county, CA area ## Hi, Nancy! How are you? The main issue here is trying to find a doctor that will prescribe any specific medication. Technically, any doctor with a medical license can legally prescribe any medication, but when you are trying to look for a specific one, they usually view that as drug seeking behavior and won't even let you get in the door for an appointment. Learn more Percocet details here. If you require such a drug for long-term treatment of chronic pain, under the new regulations, you'll have to see a pain management specialist. And in regards to that, if surgery is an option that cou...

Hello I need to find a new pcp in Richmond, VA that will take over prescribing my medications. I have a history of lyme disease, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, chronic anxiety. I was informed by my pcp that I would no longer be treated after over three years of being a patient. I don't have the time or money for multiple co-pays and doctor visits to find a doctor that is willing to continue prescribing my medications for pain, anxiety, and chronic fatigue. I do not want to go to a pain management clinic but rather visit my pcp each month so I have one doctor doing all my prescribing. I have been looking on the internet in hopes to find referrals to pcp that are sympathetic and willing to treat me as long as I am following the protocol. So stressed over this because I have a demandin...
