I have chronic itching due liver disease. My dr. said that taking cholestyramine may help. Can you offer any insight ## Hello, Viktoria! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about your health issues. Cholestyramine helps remove bile acids from the body and in many case where someone has a liver problem, the symptoms they experience such as the itching, are due to it not being properly processed out, anymore. So yes, it may help you, others have had success with it. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am on storwin together with cardicor, ecotrin and 1/2 lisindopril. Besides these i take eltroxin, omega., vit C ! calcium., talomil and vit B , my doctor suggested alternate nights on storwin with enzyme Q10 on other night. My cardiologist says my aching legs day and night are "all in the mind". I find this unacceptable and he also suggested that i go off storwin for a month and see if it makes a difference. So i am very confused and not happy to be in pain like this

my mother was on a statin drug for 10 years and she started juicing using carrots some other fruits and veggies and lots of celery. just recently she has been taken off her statin drugs. it worked for her. maybe it will work for others. ## Hello, Patty! How are you and your mother? It is well known that some natural nutrients can help lower cholesterol levels, so she was definitely doing something right. And thank for posting this for others, those Statin drugs can cause some problematic side effects, so not everyone can take them! Is there anything I can help with?

currently on 20mg crestor however benefits have runout and can't afford meds is there any over the counter drug or vitiamin which can replace this? Please advise thanks ## Unfortunately, no, there is isn't. Have you spoken to your doctor about an alternative? There are generics available for some cholesterol medications, which would be a lot cheaper. However, I am unsure of the specific ones that are available in Canada. You can also check with the manufacturer to see if they offer an assistance program for it to their Canadian users. It is manufactured by AstraZeneca and they offer several great programs in the U.S. for people without coverage. You can contact them at 905-277-7111 or 800-565-5877 Are there any other questions or comments?

My husband has recently started taking 20 mg lipitor and is experiencing severe joint discomfort after that .Doctor has advised to lower the dose to 10mg .How can we cope with this,if anyone has experienced the same. ## Lipitor contains the active ingredient Atorvastatin, which is used to help lower cholesterol. The joint/muscle aches are very common side effects of this class of medications and in some people they are so severe that they have to discontinue use of the medication and try something else. Lowering the dose may help, but it could still take several weeks for those effects to taper off. Did his doctor suggest anything else he could use in the meantime to alleviate it? ## Thanks for the insight...his doctor has asked to stop that ,as according to him any other statin can cau...

I have had raised cholesterol for years and was changed to Vytorin about 12 months ago. I am now on 10/80. I have been under a neurologist for years about "unexplained white matter" on my brain. For the past few months when med was raised, I have had tingling in arms legs and down the side of my face. I feel very unbalanced and "off with the fairies" at times and know that I am just not right. Thinking and memory has been effected. I am now looking at medication (Vytorin) and have stopped taking it to see if these symptoms improve. Is there anybody else out there who has experienced the same symptoms on these meds.? I am at my wits end ## Hello, Marg! How are you? Those can be side effects of Vytorin, as reported by the FDA. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, hea...

I am on 80 mg of Atorvastatin. Can I safely start cutting my doses to 40 for a week or two, then half the 40 for a week or two, then half the 20, then get off without the extreme side effects? ## Hi Terry, Generally, it's best to discuss tapering protocols with your prescribing doctor in order to mitigate possible risk factors (e.g. rebound effects or withdrawal symptoms). However, as a last resort, and because only you know your body and how it responds to Atorvastatin, my opinion is that your current approach certainly seems feasible. Since Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, simply changing your diet (staying away from foods that raise those numbers) should theoretically yield noticeable results in and of itself. Unfortunately no one can accura...

Hello, I recently had a liver profile test done along with an ultrasound of my abdomen due to persistent itching on my right side. The results identified a Grade 1 Fatty Liver with SGOT levels at 30.2 and SGPT levels at 38. All other functions appear normal, even my cholesterol is within normal limits. My doctor has prescribed Udiliv 300, to be taken twice daily for fifteen days. I'm uncertain whether this is the appropriate medication for my condition. Could anyone offer advice or share their own experiences with this medication? Thank you for your help.

My doctor's PA suggested that I take Mirapex for extreme leg cramps in my groin. The cramps started after I was forced to take statins to lower my cholesterol levels. The statins didn't work, but caused the extreme leg cramps. I would be left screaming for 40 minutes or more when the cramps would hit. The PA suggested trying Mirapex at .125mg up to .375mg dosage rates on an "as needed" basis. Mirapex was nothing short of a miracle. When the cramps would hit, I would take two .125mg tablets and the cramps would completely stop in about 20 minutes. I have been checked for underlying conditions (Restless leg, Parkinson's) and they don't exist. I know this treatment may be considered "off-label", but it has been a lifesaver for me. ## Since Mirapex is commonl...

Hi, Last Christmas 12/2012 i fainted in a store and went to my GP because well fainting in a store. After ordering some tests thyroid panel (normal), sugar test (not diabetic), cholesterol (less than 150). He sent me to a cardiologist after seeing something slightly off kilter (something on the left axis?) The cardiologist said it was within normal but did prescribe Metoprolol 25mg tartrate 2x a day. He also said to eat a bag of chips on occasion, increase my salt intake and drink caffiene. My questions are: 1. is it normal to prescribe it to a person with low blood pressure Nov 28, 2012 it was 114/99 (i had a cold when this was taken) to 113/59 on Mar 23, 2013. 2. why would he prescribe this when it is normally used for people with high blood pressure? 3. The Rx pill I have is a white, unscored oval with FO on one side and a design that resembles a squared off lower case e. The second one is white, more rectangular, scored with 2 / 125 and IMO on the opposite side. The third one is a scored white oval with IP / 272 on one side and blank on the other. I stopped using it 3 weeks ago and still have hair loss the hair is very fine. My hair is normally very thick. Has anyone else had this? ## Trilipix contains the active ingredient Fenofibric Acid, it is used to help lower cholesterol. Does you doctor know you are going off of this medication? What happens to your cholesterol levels when going off lipitor cold turkey? I went off of it two months ago and then got scared about my cholesterol levels. I went off by weaning. First, one full pill then 1/2 pill next day. Did this for almost a week. Then I went to 1/2 pill daily for a week. Then 1/2 pill every other day. Finally I stopped. I had no side effects except feeling great. My greatest concern is my cholesterol levels. Do they sky rocket and if so how much? Also, if I start a niacin, red rice, ubiquinol To regimen will this help. Can I take these while weaning off lipitor? You see, after I went off the lipitor I got scared and went back on it . I've been taking Simvastatin 40 mg for a year and my cholesterol in below normal for my age and weight (130). Can I quit taking it cold turkey or do I need to ease off of it gradually? The only side effect I've had is the joint pain and not much energy. ## Hi pete, Although Simvastatin can be cold-turkeyed, I would still urge you to let your doctor know before you stop taking it, since I have read a few reports of terrible leg cramping and cardiac problems a couple weeks after stopping it. Everyone reacts differently, so there's no telling whether or not you'd even be likely to experience such symptoms. But if you want to play it safe you can always taper down by taking a fraction of the dose over a period of a couple weeks or so. Has anyone else here had success in stop...

I had a heart attack on 9-26-16...I was doing decent afterward for several weeks. I decided to go off effexor 150mg. after 10+ years. The reason is because effexor can cause high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and weight gain, all in which I have problems with and especially now I need to control them more. I've been tapering for a month with mild withdrawal, some days better or worse than others. Mostly irritability, vertigo, brain fog, tired all the time, yet I cannot sleep. Headaches come and go and quite a bit of body, muscle, joint aches. What's concerning me at this point is my chest is very sore, left side. I'm wondering if the tapering is causing discomfort? As of 2 days ago I decreased again and am down to 37.5. I thought I'd be feeling a lot worse, maybe tha...

I was put on the generic form of Lipitor. 40mg. I am small framed and weigh about 120. I started having muscle pain all over and was very weak. Also dizzy and diarrhea. Felt awful. I am starting to feel much better now that I am not taking it but I am concerned about my liver. Will my ALT go back to normal? ## Hello, Bambi! How are you? Those are all normal side effects of Lipitor according to the FDA, unfortunately. Many people end up so miserable on it that they have to stop taking it.
