Because it is an over the counter medication, it is generally regarded as being safe for public use (as long as you follow the dosing instructions). It is also probably a good choice since it has nasal decongestant properties. If you're looking for a simple, more natural alternative, I would recommend using peppermint essential oil for this same purpose. Just 1 drop around the nasal area would be sufficient in my opinion.
