why can't this medicine be found today. It was the only thing that would stop my mom from coughing. She is 86 years old and coughs so violently that I am afraid it is going to kill her. Her Dr. has tried many things but to no avail nothing has worked. Her Dr. says that this medicine has been discontinued. So why isn't something there to take it's place? ## Your doctor is either searching with the wrong info or he or she just doesnt want to prescribe it. From the information I am finding, the regular, adult formulation contains 8mgs of Chlorpheniramine and 10mgs of Hydrocodone, per teaspoon. The Hydrocodone is a narcotic, so you may experience side effects such as: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and constipation. ## I thought tussionex had codine in it. Why was chlo-tuss discontinued? I was prescribed this today and saw on the internet that it had been discontinued. ## I was prescribed Chlo Tuss Liquid and found out on this site that it was discontinued some time ago. Why was it "discontinued"? Was it a danger to patients, and why? Why is Chlo Tuss Liquid still prescribed and filled if it is discontinued? My symptoms: excessive nasal, sinus, chest congestion with night sweats, headache and body aches, excessive dry cough. The symptoms came suddenly within 8 hours of a dry scratchy throat. What is the dosage on the prescription? Tussionex also contains Hydrocodone with Chlorpheniramine, so it's likely close to what you've taken before. The FDA lists this medication as being a cough suppressant, but it does contain a narcotic, so it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation.

Does this have what is needed to assist with pluracy? ## Tussionex contains Chlorpheniramine, commonly used to treat allergies and Hydrocodone, a narcotic, commonly used in this manner to reliever coughing. That said, NO, Pleurisy is fluid around the lungs, neither one of these will treat that. is this what your doctor prescribed for you?

Thank you. ## Hi Teri, Certain drugs are actually okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. Tussionex contains a combination of Chlorpheniramine + Hydrocodone. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over 2 years old. It may still be effective, but not nearly as potent. It's also impossible to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. I have used Tussionex Pennkineticsusp for years and never had any problems. Recently I got the generic version, took it once. I felt dizzy and nauseated and light headed all day. Will now go back to the regular version. I always thought that generic should be the same, but it is not. Taste different too. ## The taste is really irrelevant, that just depends on what flavoring agents the manufacturer uses and it has no bearing on the efficacy of the medication. Tussinex and Tussincaps are already on the market and while it does work to calm cough its become notorious for the high it gives since the antihistamine in it potetiates the hydrocodone! it should be taken off the market since any opiod drug can suppress coughing and sneezing and they arent as mind altering as this combo! ## Based on my research, both of these drugs do interact with one another.
