Does Chantix make the Depo Shot ineffective?
1 Reply RSS
I have been on Depo shot for a year and just started taking Chantix a month ago and have been bleeding for 2 weeks, the bleeding just stopped but I am wondering if the depo shot is still effective? My husband and I have intercourse frequently but do not want to get pregnant again. ## Hello, FloridaGirl! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between them, but you should double check with your doctor or pharmacist to be sure. It is a hormonal contraceptive, so some breakthrough can be a normal side effect. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

Anxiety Increase after weaning off Chantix
5 Replies RSS
I recently weaned myself off of Chantix. Prior to taking it, I had already been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, but it was totally manageable. I had only had one full blown anxiety attack before getting on Chantix and none during. However, in the week since I have been off of it, I have been seriously anxious. Like a mini panic attack a day anxious. I've made an appt with my doctor, but I wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this sort of thing. I feel like a freak. :( ## Please don't feel like a freak, such experiences are completely normal and we all go through them, some more than others, so there's no reason to feel that way. And yes, when you stop taking a medication like Chantix, it can cause rebound type effects, which may include anxiety attacks. Learn mo... ...

Still Dizzy, Close to Blackout After Chantix
2 Replies RSS
Hi, I took chantix for 6 weeks. I am glad I quit smoking after nearly forty years but while on it I couldn't bare the nausea and the stomach upset. I quit after taking it for six week but now I get headaches and I feel like I am going to pass out several times a day. Has anyone experienced this side effect. ## Sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. Lately there has been cases where people have gotten late onset diabetes. It is type 1, insulin dependent. They got it shortly after taking chantix. You may want to see a docter. Also check for these symptoms, very thirsty all the time, using restroom a lot and loosing weight. Those are also good signs of type 1 diabetes ## I suffer from the same thing. I thought maybe it was my BP but when it was checked it was good. I would like... ...

Chantix can cause Extremely Bad Side effects
1 Reply RSS
I started taking Chantix when my employer had a promotion to help its employees to quit smoking. I was a long time smoker and had tried to quit smoking several times. I tried everything from Tooth picks to Nicotine gum, to no avail. So I participated, and was prescribed Chantix to quit smoking. When I stopped it got worse, the nightmares haunted me. I was having issues with blurry vision, making it hard to drive to work every day, I had anger issues, severe depression, and became a different person. Taking Chantix started me down a long path of Severe Depression, which I am still battling today. Some of the other side effects I experience are, anger, nightmares, blurring vision, suicidal thoughts, that led to one attempt. I was almost hospitalized for severe depression, because my paren... ...

What to do if your insurance won't cover Chantix
3 Replies RSS
I had a prescription for Chantix in August unfortunately I couldn't fill it the cost was $175 for a month supply. ouch. Yes I know I spend that in cigarettes a month but unlike the medicine I can spread it out over a month seems cheaper right. Well after dismissing quitting because of cost of Chantix I started to think about it again in November, there has to be some way to get the meds cheaper, I did some research and if you go on the Chantix website it has an area where you can apply for assistance thru Pfizer to have them supply it based on income. If approved they send the meds a 3 month supply to your doctors office where you will pick it up. It requires completion of paperwork from you and your doctor but well worth it process takes about 3 weeks. I am on day 9 of it and have ... ...

Day 16 on chantix, only small decrease in smoking :(
4 Replies RSS
Hello, I started chantix 16 days ago. im 30 and ive been a pretty heavy smoker for quite a few years. ive only decreased my smoking very little and im getting worried cause I honestly have all intentions on quitting. the only side effects I have are weird dreams, fatigue usually 15-20 mins after I take the med, it usually gives me a warm rush followed by the sleepyness and I get shakey and quite anxious. is there anyone who can reassure me to hang in there? lol I have 3 kids and they need me, especially smoke free. ## Are you also trying to stop smoking? The medication isn't going to do it all. Whatever your intentions are, it also requires real effort on your part. Have you talked to your doctor about it? ## Dont give up. Any way to reverse long-term Chantix side effects?
86 Replies RSS
My mother took Chantix several years ago in an effort to quit smoking. Well, she quit for a year. During that time, however, she became unbearably depressed. She has no history of depression. She consulted a doctor several times and tried 3 different prescriptions, 1 of them being Zoloft. She stopped because she said they made her feel like she was just in a constant haze. She hasn't been to a doctor or a psychologist since then. In the mean time, she started smoking again because she thought that it would make the depression go away. It didn't. Because of her experience with the 3 prescriptions, she is unwilling to go back to a doctor, and dismisses any notion of going to a psychologist. Our family has pleaded with her to keep trying, even if she has to tell whoever she sees th... ...

Bad metallic taste in mouth from taking Chantix, a fix!
1 Reply RSS
Hi, on day two I woke up with this horrible metallic acidy bad taste in my mouth, mostly my tongue. I searched the Internet for help. I tried the following: Gargling with salt water, no effect. Gargling with baking soda, no effect. Eating drinking citris - somewhat effective Spraying my mouth with sore throat medicine - short term effect Started taking Zinc- BAD TASTE VANISHED - EFFECTIVE! ## Ironically enough, Chantix does list "having a bad taste in the mouth" pretty much word for word as a general side effect. So I wouldn't be surprised at all if it never went away until you stopped taking the medication. However, I am curious to know whether or not any metallic taste will return after you've continued to supplement with Zinc? If you could keep us posted every now and... ...

I quit smoking the same day was prescribed chantix any advice

I quit smoking last night, and went to the doctor today and was prescribed chantix. Has anybody tried this way before? I dont want to start smoking just because I am supposed to work my way in to it as I would feel like I would be going backwards. Any advice? ## Help, Yua! How are you? Congratulations on the choice you've made to get healthy. Quitting isn't easy. And no, there's no need to pick them up, again, just to use the Chantix. It should provide the same support as it would, if you were still smoking. But it could help get rid of the cravings and prevent the urge to pick them back up. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, insomnia, lucid dreaming and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

I Want To Know What The Side Effects Are Of Taking Methadone An Regular Daily Dose Chantix
6 Replies RSS
I am on methadone maintenance & I am taiking chantix to quit smoking. When I first take the chantix in the a.m. I am disoriented and extremely anxious. these are not things that I experience taking methadone. Any feedback? ## Based on my research there are no known drug interactions between Methadone and Chantix; so I'm thinking the side effects you're describing are most likely related to one or the other individually. Anxiety isn't listed as a side of Chantix or Methadone, but there have been numerous claims linking Chantix to panic attacks, anxiety, nervousness, and even induced psychosis. I would definitely recommend discussing this with your doctor since it seems you're not alone in the matter. ## I am concerned about the "combination" of the Methadone a... ...

can i stop taking chantix without decreasing dosage as am having side effects that makes me want to the medication
2 Replies RSS
I have been taking Chantix for almost 6 weeks and not smoking for almost 5 weeks. My dreams are not nightmares, but are becoming more disarming and I don't want them anymore. Also, this past week, I started getting very agitated and angry, lashing out at my husband and even a stranger or two. I am aware of some of the horrific stories of long-term depression, etc. This is my second time with Chantix. The first time I did it the full 12 weeks, didn't smoke and got very depressed upon quitting Chantix and started smoking again. Depression went away. My doctor suggested only one month if I was not craving cigarettes, which I am not, and then wean mysel off the medication. I began three days ago going from 2 per day to 1 in the morning and a half at night. I am to the point now that... ...

I am coming up on 3 years since I quit smoking and I can assure anyone that it would never have been possible without Chantix

It has been nearly 3 years since I quit smoking and with only minor urges that last only a few seconds, It was the easiest thing I have ever accomplished. I had tried many stop smoking aids and some helped but none ever addressed the true addiction. My doctor kept telling me to quit and told me that Chantix could help but I felt that it was only another money pit for something that would not be successful. But when I got to where I could not get out of bed in the morning before I coughed to the point of exhaustion, I knew it was time to do something quick. I call my doctor and got a prescription for Chantix. I followed the direction and even waited an additional week before quiting just to make sure my mind was set. That is where Chantix helped. All the other times I tried to quit I cou... ...

I would like to quit smoking-Chantix helped me quit for 8 months before. I am afraid if I use insurance they will track me as a former smoker and increase my insurance rates. I am in the medical field and everyone thinks I am a non smoker. How do I get an RX filled with confidentiality? Please help! ## Hi Colleen, if you saw your doctor as a cash patient and then filled your script with cash, would the insurance company know? I thought that there might be a separation there since they would not be billing the insurance. Just started on Chantix three days ago....no negative side effects so far. I am a registered nurse and am aware of the positive and negative effects of this drug. That said, this is my last hope as I have never been able to quit before. Family and friends are watching me closely for behavioral abnormalities. My quit date is set for 4 days from now! Really having high hopes for this pill....lol. It has helped many doctors and nurses that work with me.
