my side effects include bloating, stomach pains, irregular bowel movements and of course weight gain ## Hello, Kevin! How are you? Has it helped you stop smoking? The FDA lists its other possible side effects as including nausea, headache and dry mouth. With the irregular bowel movements, are you referring to diarrhea or constipation?

How are you doing? Has there been any change? You should really have this checked out by your doctor, as those could be signs of a cardiac issue, which the FDA warns that this medication has been known to cause in some people that take it. There is a good chance that it's nothing, but better safe, than sorry. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, he...

Where are the people who have had cardiovascular events and believe Chantix played a part? ## I believe there are a good number of Chantix threads here in the forums, where people have complained about cardiovascular-related side effects. I'd consider browsing through some of the threads here to see who else has reported these types of side effects: /search.asp?q=chantix I would also suggest looking into the threads linked below, for more related conditions: /Discuss/Chantix-and-Atrial-Fibrilation-222488.htm /Discuss/chantix-side-effects-195280.htm I hope this helps! ## There just has to be more of us! It seems like the law firms have simply turned their backs on us.

How long does chantix stay in your system? Could it still be affecting me after 9 months? ## No! There are no medications that stay in your system for that long. The only way you would still be feeling effects was if it had caused some type of permanent body/organ damage, which I am sure would have been detected long ago. Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline,it is a stop smoking aid. Common side effects during use can include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and abnormal dreams. Did you have any other questions? ## You say that no medication can stay in your system that long. Hmmn, interesting concept. So no medicine/drug can stay in your system that long. So people who took a medicine/drug that affected their brain lets say back in the 60's or even possibly now of any sa...

I started taking Chantix when my employer had a promotion to help its employees to quit smoking. I was a long time smoker and had tried to quit smoking several times. I tried everything from Tooth picks to Nicotine gum, to no avail. So I participated, and was prescribed Chantix to quit smoking. When I stopped it got worse, the nightmares haunted me. I was having issues with blurry vision, making it hard to drive to work every day, I had anger issues, severe depression, and became a different person. Taking Chantix started me down a long path of Severe Depression, which I am still battling today. Some of the other side effects I experience are, anger, nightmares, blurring vision, suicidal thoughts, that led to one attempt. I was almost hospitalized for severe depression, because my paren...

My mother took Chantix several years ago in an effort to quit smoking. Well, she quit for a year. During that time, however, she became unbearably depressed. She has no history of depression. She consulted a doctor several times and tried 3 different prescriptions, 1 of them being Zoloft. She stopped because she said they made her feel like she was just in a constant haze. She hasn't been to a doctor or a psychologist since then. In the mean time, she started smoking again because she thought that it would make the depression go away. It didn't. Because of her experience with the 3 prescriptions, she is unwilling to go back to a doctor, and dismisses any notion of going to a psychologist. Our family has pleaded with her to keep trying, even if she has to tell whoever she sees th...

I. Have been taking chantix for 12 days, and I can not tell I'm taking anything and I have no change in my smoking, why is that. Also I can not eat breakfast but. I do eat dinner. I can not tell any difference if I take it without eating in the AM or when I do eat in the PM, I have not had any side effects so far. My question is it going to work for me? ## Chantix does allow for a flexible quit time, since quitting within a week does not work for everyone that tries it, some people need as long as 12 weeks. Have you tried to cut down on your smoking? Which plan are you on? Chantix side effects may include: nausea, aggression, weight changes, and sleepwalking. However, not everyone experiences side effects from medications.

Chantix Varenicline

Varenicline (trade name Chantix and Champix) is a medication used for smoking cessation.[4][6] Varenicline is also used for the treatment of dry eye disease.[5][7] The most common side-effects include nausea (feeling sick), insomnia (difficulty sleeping), abnormal dreams, headache and nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the nose and throat).[6] It is a high-affinity partial agonist for the α4β2 nicotinic ac...

About 6 months ago I finally decided to try the prescription of chantix that I recieved before all of the warnings after I started taking it I quickly started having depression and violent out breaks also suicidal tendencys. I stopped taking the medication but the side effects are still with me, at this time I don't have insurance and can't afford to get help. Only recently I noticed that the prescription was expired along time ago, until I startex having problems I had no idea what was going on with all the cases by other people for the same problems I'm having now I see that they have settled with every one does that mean I can't make them resposible for my medical bills that are going to come from trying to repair the damage their pills have caused me? I've emaile...

I am on methadone maintenance & I am taiking chantix to quit smoking. When I first take the chantix in the a.m. I am disoriented and extremely anxious. these are not things that I experience taking methadone. Any feedback? ## Based on my research there are no known drug interactions between Methadone and Chantix; so I'm thinking the side effects you're describing are most likely related to one or the other individually. Anxiety isn't listed as a side of Chantix or Methadone, but there have been numerous claims linking Chantix to panic attacks, anxiety, nervousness, and even induced psychosis. I would definitely recommend discussing this with your doctor since it seems you're not alone in the matter. ## I am concerned about the "combination" of the Methadone a...

Only side effects I got was the dreams, although I was not as happy as I usually am but my husband says that just means your like a normal person now...haha very funny. I am so happy that I am a non smoker when I read people quit after 2 weeks that scared me cause I didnt think it would work. But it did!! Little bit of nausea but its worth it not to smell anymore and to breath again. It says to take for 3 months and that is what im going to do... Thank so much Chantix ## Hello, Loni! How are you? Chantix does work--But it would be nice if someone had told me the terrible side effects that can happen. Side effects that a person must live with for the rest of their lives. RLS is a terrible side effect that does NOT go away after you stop taking Chantix. It effects every moment of of your life waking and sleeping! I'm not saying no one should use Chantix but if I had known the serious side effects that can be life altering I don't think I would have taken that risk. It is my 3rd day with no sleep due to RLS. I lost my job of 20 years, because I can't function on 3-4 hours of sleep in 48 hours. I just think people need to know what they may be risking before they decide to start Chantix thats all. ## Be aware people - I am fairly young and all of a sudden I developed thi...

i just started chantix can I take unisom ## Chantix contains the active ingredient Varenicline and Unisom contains the active ingredient Diphenhydramine and I am not finding any interactions listed between the two, but you should check with your doctor, or pharmacist to be certain. It may, however, aggravate some of the side effects, such as dry mouth and drowsiness. Learn more: Is there anything else I can help with?

Has anyone experienced suicidal ideation and assault while taking Chantix/Champix ## It is known to cause these problems with some people that take it, thought it is very rare. It is an antidepressant, the active ingredient is Varenicline and most of them are known to cause the opposite of their intended effects in a very small number of people that use them. In the U.S. it carries a black box warning about it on the medication sheet. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have been taking Chantix for almost 6 weeks and not smoking for almost 5 weeks. My dreams are not nightmares, but are becoming more disarming and I don't want them anymore. Also, this past week, I started getting very agitated and angry, lashing out at my husband and even a stranger or two. I am aware of some of the horrific stories of long-term depression, etc. This is my second time with Chantix. The first time I did it the full 12 weeks, didn't smoke and got very depressed upon quitting Chantix and started smoking again. Depression went away. My doctor suggested only one month if I was not craving cigarettes, which I am not, and then wean mysel off the medication. I began three days ago going from 2 per day to 1 in the morning and a half at night. I am to the point now that...

I have been taking Chantix for 4 days in a row and I feel horrible!!! how soon will this be out of my system?? ## Hello, Jodi! How are you doing? If you only took it for 4 days, it shouldn't take long for the side effects to wear off, a few days at most. What types of side effects did you experience? The most common ones are nausea, insomnia and abnormal dreams. ## It takes about 2 weeks for your system to acclimate to chantix. If you don't feel your side effects subsiding by then and you want to stop using it. You need to wean yourself off over a 2 weeks period. Or you will experience more side effects. Chantix is Bupropion which is Wellbutrin. Just so you know. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

I started taking Chantix on Dec. 02, 2007. So this is my second week on the Chantix. I haven't had real bad side effects. I have had an upset stomach and diarrhea, but like someone else said, I'm not sure it's related to the Chantix. I thought maybe I caught a flu bug. Anyhow, I wanted to ask you all if it's normal that I still have the craving for wanting a cigarrette. I thought for sure that it would've subsided somewhat, but it's still there. I noticed longer periods of time in between wanting one, but I still want one. :( If there is any advice anyone can offer, I would greatly appreciate it! ## I started taking this pill 2 weeks ago, about one week into it I started feeling side effects of nausiated stomach, to the point of not wanting to eat as I was concer...

I am on day 13 of Chantix and have seen no results. Is this normal or should I consider that it is not working for me and give it up? I can't deal with the nausea if it is not going to work. ## It may take 4 to 5 weeks for this medication to reach its full level of efficacy in the body. The FDA lists its typical side effects as also including dizziness, headache, mood changes, and weight changes. Has there been any change? What has your doctor advised? ## Go read the other forums about chantix here. I took it in 2011 and have permanent brain damage from it- no pleasure from smoking but also no pleasure from ANYTHING ELSE. complete anhedonia followed by suicidal thoughts and no Dr. Or medication has helped. Stop taking this asap! I quit taking it cold turkey after 2 months. Perhaps w...

I have heard good and bad about this medication. I am on my 13d ay of Chantix and other then some weird dreams I'm doing pretty good. I haven't smoke for 4 days now. I did smoke after my first week but it tasted horrible and gave me a upset stomach. If you do smoke after the 7th day you may regret it! I don't take Chantix with any other meds so the side effects have been OK. Not wanting to kill myself or anyone else but it feels good not smoking and being able to breather after 20 years! ## Congratulations! I am very glad to hear that it is working so well for you. Do you have any other tips and tricks that helped you that you can post and share with our users?

Anti Depressent ## I use trepiline 50mg. and I would like to stop smoking so can I use Zyban with the trepiline. Please advise. Thank you. ## The correct drug name is Amitriptyline, the active ingredient in Elavil, this is an antidepressant. Common side effects may include: nausea, headache, dizziness and blurred vision. In some cases, it is used in conjunction with Zyban, however, this site is not medical professionals, and only your doctor can decide on the safety of that. Another option, which you may want to ask your doctor about is the new smoking cessation medication Chantix: Did you have any other questions? ## My daughter use Trepiline for headaches.
